1. I promise. The leader. Does not. Have to be. Male.

Your story will get reads if the leader of the clan is female.

2. Let's not focus on if your main character is male or female, because everybody points that out. If you keep an about even gender ratio in your main characters, you'll be fine. In Spark, I have a female protagonist character that the story follows, with two or three main males and about two main females that show up or are talked about in most chapters and aren't background.

3. Rather, let's focus on your characterization of that main female character. Instead of thinking "oh I need a male character, I can't really relate to them that much though because I'm female" (not saying every fic writer is female, it's just that I'm female so I'm writing this from my perspective) think of more interested traits for that female character. Don't go all "shy, kind, personality is kind of floppy." Go with "spunky," or "smart," SOMETHING. Any trait that isn't boring will work.

4. It's okay if you don't update every day. Don't burn yourself out.

5. Listen to some music to get you in the mood. Is it cold? Is it the battle heating up? I suggest not sticking to the same angsty music, but switching it up. I use 8tracks and just type in what a key word for what mood I'm trying to get across and it gets me in that mood. Just using a warriors playlist is good (and it might have some of your fave edgy music in the playlist too)
