Tips vol. 3

It's not always sunny in the clans. It can't always be butterflies in the day and cool fireflies at night with perfectly warm breezes in between. Season is very important to clan cats: it determines how prey in running, if they need to drink more water, if they're going to freeze and not want to go hunt.

First off, remember to keep track of what season it is in your book. It's very easy to forget about this minute, but critical, detail. Season can determine if it's raining, snowing, freezing, blistering heat. Which brings me to: don't forget the weather. You can't have it start raining, forget about it, and have it suddenly be nice and sunny the next paragraph unless you directly say 'how odd! It must be a sign from StarClan.. It was just raining a minute ago, but now it's sunny!' Or whatever.

Refer to your own life and how weather effects you, because you can bet your tail that's how the cats could react. You can (and should) bring any of your personal experiences into your books, it'll really help it seem real.

For instance, when it's hot, you'll probably say "ITS SO HOT" and complain about it. It's okay, I do it. At least one cat will do that. Give your characters personalities. Someone out of an entire clan will not enjoy the blistering heat. When it's sizzlin' out, you need to cool yourself. So do cats. They aren't super animals. They need water to cool themselves, just like you. They tend to chill out and hang in the shade. Cats will also groom themselves more often when it's smokin' because saliva cools their fur, etc, etc. Thus, more water. Drink up.

Weather is essential to clan life, it can influence cats to jump to anger, it can cause sickness, and it can bring life to the territory. That's why you need to include it in your fics. Good luck!
