This Isn't a Guide to Making a Cat
It's a Public Service Announcement that Turned into a Guide for Writing a Fanfic

Never. Ever. Start your story with your kit opening its eyes for the first time to see its sibling saying "yay they opened their eyes can we go play etc etc." I understand Bluestar's Prophecy was a great book. But every. Single. Fanfic. Does. This.

"But what do I do instead?" You ask? Don't fret; you don't even have to start with your cat as a kit! Actually; the story may be better if it starts as you cat as a warrior or apprentice! Kithood can be quite boring to read: they're very limited. Especially if it's for several chapters. One chapter of them being a kit? Yes yes yes. Besides, StarClan wouldn't consider a kit to carry out the heavenly duties: they'd choose an apprentice or a warrior.

Other than starting your story with first eye-opening, you can start with them training with their mentor. Hunting. Trudging after dawn patrol. Anything. Something to grab my attention! A kit opening its eyes isn't as attention grabbing as leaping into battle.

It's your story though, so you can start with whatever you want to, but I personally have seen wAY too many stories starting like so:

Chapter One

Silverkit opened her beautiful lilac eyes slowly.

"Wow, look, mum! She's got her eyes open!" Another kit! She sat up. "I'm Shadowkit, your brother!" He laughed. He had copper eyes. She nodded with a smile. "Can we go outside now, mum?" He asked a beautiful silver she-cat who nodded. Silverkit noticed she looked just like her mother: beautiful.

Okay five stars. All I can think is Bluestar's Prophecy. Actually, I've seen a fic that was just like BP except it had different names and fur colors to suit their cats.

So, moral of this entire chapter is: get creative! Don't stick with the cliché: "I opened my eyes for the first time, everything big and a little blurry." Go start with them playing with another cat, or getting in a border skirmish, or bringing down some prey! You're all really good at writing, and you can pretty much pull off any opening you want.
