Character Development
Literally the most important thing of the story. Even if your prophecy sucks, you can always rely on character development.
When I say Character Development, I'm talking about how your character's personality changes over the story.
To start off, you need to know your character's personality. Character development works best if you have a solid character with good traits: some positive ones, some neutral, and a few flaws. This gives room for character growth.
For an example, we'll use a cat made-up cat named Hawkshadow. She's cold, hard-working, and doesn't listen to authority. Over the course of time, events happen and slowly change her character. Say she meets a kind cat that she actually enjoys spending time with. This new character should make Hawkshadow a little less cold and a little more open, even if it's open to only this one cat. Following character development, over time he'll become more open with more cats, not just that one kind friend.
It should be kept in mind that character development shouldn't be there just to make your cat a Mary Sue, which is a character with few 'flaws,' that aren't really flaws or no flaws whatsoever. Character Development won't enrich every single negative aspects of a cat, and it might introduce new traits, whether it's good or bad.
Let's say Hawkshadow is also friends with a snarky/rude cat. Hawkshadow will probably become sassy or snarky as well since she spends time with this cat. Her character is developing, even if it's negative. Even if she breaks ties with the bad influence, there's a good chance she'll still have a form of this negative trait.
Character development can also occur quickly due to an event. Lets say there's a terrible fire and Hawkshadow sees terrible things, such as cats dying. That can majorly effect her, probably in a negative way. She could become more hostile, or very distant, or stronger and more focused. Cats react in different ways to things like that.
Take Ravenpaw from the original series. He was originally skittish and afraid, probably from seeing Redtail murdered (but in Bluestar's prophecy it showed him being that way as a kit, which I thought was stupid), but in Fire and Ice he's seen as less timid, and in all his future appearances he's changed a lot. After spending time with Barley, he overcomes his fears and develops as a cat to being less afraid and more strong personality wise.
To do this wonderful thing of character development, first you'll need to WRITE DOWN SOMEWHERE what your characters personality actually is. When you write down your outline for your story, write down how their personality might change or how they react as a side note. For instance, Hawkshadow blacked out (people ALWAYS wright "and then everything got dark and she blacked out" but then they get right back up. Whatever.) so when she goes unconscious and later wakes up, not only will she be a little weak or disoriented, but when she collects herself she may be thinking "Hey. That was dangerous. I should try to take it a little slow for a while." Or they may think the opposite of "GOTTA BLAST GOTTA FIGHT HARDER. POPPYSTAR COUNT ME IN ON THAT BATTLE TRAINING SESSION BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO FAIL THIS BAD EVER AGAIN."
