Clothes Styles/Colors
This is super similar to the Hair chapter, so I won't put too much into this chapter. (Lol)
You don't want to give your futuristic OC a outfit that would be more suitable for a modern day farmer. The only exception for this would be if your futuristic OC IS A FARMER! That or there so poor that they dress as if they would work on a farm all day.
Another thing to keep in mind is Class. There are usually 3, sometimes 4, classes: there's the poor class, the middle class, and the rich class. (The 4th class that isn't sometimes used is the slave class). There clothing styles and colors should reflect which class they're in. Here's a clothing image from Avatar the Last Airbenders Earth Kingdom (art belongs to it's rightful owner).
(In the Earth Kingdom, Green represents earth, and also wealth). The lower ring (poor class) have dirtier and ripped clothing; since green fabric probably costs more than normal fabrics, they do not have bright green outfits. The lower ring look as if their clothes were scrapped together out of different bits of clothing to make a outfit. (Also note how messy most of the lower class' hair is). The middle and upper ring (the middle and rich class) have bright green colors in their outfits; the clothes are not rags, but are made out of costly materials to show which class they reside in. The higher up your OC is, the better the clothing they are able to get. (Note the jewellery/accessories each class has; better class, better things).
Also note the style of the Earth Kingdom outfits. I'll let you research this bit, but their outfits are of Asian traditional clothing. And before you can say "Oh! All Asian outfits are the same!" There not. The Japanese traidtional clothing is a Kimono; (there are different types of Kimonos to note). Then there's the Korean traditional outfit, the Hanbok. While both the kimono and the Hanbok are similar, they are not the same. Please keep that in mind when making a OC, no matter what the culture your OC is in.
Then there are OCs that change their outfits. Think of Luke Skywalker from Star Wars; he's a futuristic farmer when we first meet him. But as the Star Wars timeline progress, Luke turns from being a simple farmer to a rebel fighter to a Jedi Master; his different outfits showcase the development in Luke's journey.
If your character is a spy, there outfit should match the outfits of their enemies culture. Going back to Avatar The Last Airbender, Team Avatar wear Fire Nation traidtional outfits when the group infiltrate the Fire Nation; Team Azula does this as well, but instead infiltrate the Earth Kingdom. If your OC has a visible tattoo from their culture (aka Aang with his Air Kingdom arrow tattoo on his forehead), then your OC should cover up there tattoo in order to blend in better.
Going back to the class thing a bit, there's also another thing that you should note; moeny 💰. A millionaire such as Tony Stark/Iron Man has a lot more money than a college student paying off collage debt and working part-time at a grocery store. You should ask yourself how much money one is making and saving for clothing;
Is your OC a millionaire such as Tony Stark?
Is your OC a teen who has an allowance?
Is your OC a person struggling to get by paying the bills?
Is your OC a slave who has only the money some person might give them for a job well done?
Asking yourself these questions will help you better identify which class your OC is in and how much money they make to spend on clothing.
My only note on clothing colors will be this : let the culture and timeline dictate the color. Earth kingdom = green, tan and browns. Fire Nation = firy red, darker reds, and gold. Try to keep it simple and to the timeline (no rainbows please!)
