The old saying in grade school is "Don't judge a book by it's cover" but when it comes to books you buy online, or just books you want to read on Wattpad or Inkitt, it's a lie. Statistically almost all books sold in the  United States are targeting two groups - teens and adult women. A majority of books are teen romance novels, adult romance novels, and smut and erotic.

In the case of creating a cover that is say, Romance in nature, you may want to go the route of putting an absolutely ripped man on the cover, or in the case of an LGTBQ+ book put a picture of two men or two women kissing as an example.

Over My Dead Body is a wattpad novel that has a whopping 36.4 million reads, and you can see why. The book has a steamy kiss and a very appeasing font. It also sticks out.

Then you have Beneath the Ice and Other Tales which has 1.2k reads - though it was updated last in 2019.

On wattpad you can tell the difference between a person who might put a lot of effort into a book cover or are just more experienced with a cover. Some books look like photo collages and others might be abstractly simple - such as this one above.
