Chapter 23: Familiar Yet Impossible

A/N: I hope you all enjoy it!

Cody's POV:

I wanted to yell, wait, but I didn't. Only because they were already gone before I could form the first letter.

"Damn it", Auden growled as he ran his hands through his hair.

"That was rather interesting", Gannon spoke with a growing smile on his face.

"Interesting", I echoed in disbelief of his word choice, before I ran my fingers through my hair in sheer panic, "She could see our monster form, I didn't even know I wasn't the only monster in the room."

Auden dropped his arms before his nostrils flared a few times. He looked over at Gannon then he started to laugh.

The sound of it calmed me and brought a smile to my face. That as well as the delighted look on Gannon's face.

"She wasn't afraid of us even after what Roger did", Auden spoke with amazement in his voice.

"Maybe she's in shock. How can you two be so calm about all this?", I asked them as my momentarily forgotten freak out came back full force.

My chest felt tight and breathing was starting to become difficult. A wheezing sound filled the air as I grasped at my shirt tugging it away from my body.

Auden walked over to me, grabbing my wrist and placing my hand firmly on his chest. He reached out gripping the back of my neck as he ordered, "Breath with me, Cody."

Slowly I matched my breathing with his, I felt anchored by his deep brown eyes staring at me. It didn't take long for my breathing to get back under control. His unnaturally warm hand didn't release my wrist which sends tingles through my veins, yet his other hand dropped from my neck.

"I'm calm because you're my soulmate as well as Gannon, Nia and Roger. I thought you and Nia were human. I was wrong about you. Nia isn't freaking out over the fact that we aren't human. It's a win-win", Auden explained, ending with relieved laughter that made my heart flutter.

"Soulmates?", I repeated in awe before whispering in horror, "That's bad. So bad."

Gannon came closer giving me a curious look as he asked, "Why is it bad?"

"Because", the truth hung on my tongue ready to fall from my lips at any moment, my eyes bounced between Gannon and Auden.

"Nia told me that she isn't good at letting people in, what are the chances that she'll agree to having four monster boyfriends", I told them a different truth before I swallowed deeply.

"We show her that she can trust us. Not only with life threatening situations but everyday things. Which is why we will be as available to her and each other as we can. All of this will take patience. If we are all dedicated this can work.", Gannon spoke with confidence.

I gnawed at my lower lip as I allowed myself to think about how good all this could end. My mind was flooded with daydreams, visions, memories, I wasn't sure what to call them. They were of Gannon, Auden, Roger, Nia and myself soaking in the acceptance and love, we gave freely to each other.

How can one impossible thought feel so right? Would it even be worth it to try and selfishly make that thought a reality?

I lifted a hand to cover my eyes as I laughed at the ridiculousness of it all, "What am I thinking?"

Fingers that sent waves of warmth through my body tilted my head up from gripping the side of my chin. Gannon's deep soothing voice filled the air, "Talk to us, Cody."

Auden gave me silent encouragement by squeezing my wrist lightly and it felt like he's done this a thousand times before.

"This is insane but since I've first met you all, your voices sound so familiar", I swallowed and slipped my hand in Auden's before squeezing needing the strength to continue.

"Touching Nia that first day made my power go weird, maybe the same thing just happened", I mumbled as I dragged my hand down my face, "I should go home."

Gannon and Auden share a look before Auden asks in a gentle tone, "Are you sure you want to go?"

I bounced between brown eyes and green eyes before I nodded quickly. If I stayed here any longer I knew I'd spill my guts about everything.

Is this a soulmate thing, the urge to dump all your problems out in exchange for their warm embrace and reassurance? Is that what Nia felt when she asked me for help after the movies that day?

"Ok I'll take you home", Gannon spoke as he pulled out his car keys and turned to head for the front door.

"No, I'll get home on my own. I can't just leave my car here, can I?", I laughed in an almost forced way as I pulled out my own keys.

"Here", Auden said in a stern voice while offering me a card, I took it and he continued, "Call one of us when you get home, since I'm staying here this weekend."

Gannon grinned at Auden as he walked over to me, "My home is your home, Sunshine."

After slipping an arm around my waist, Gannon addressed me, "I'll walk you to your car."

I didn't have it in me to deny him so we walked side by side in the crisp cool night. The moon and street lamps providing the only light, Gannon's body heat seeping into my side as we walked.

The silence that encompassed us felt natural, relaxing even. It felt odd to be so at ease, so quickly with a stranger. A stranger that is my soulmate and isn't human.

"Be safe getting home", Gannon told me once we arrived at my car, his hand moving from my waist to cupping my cheek.

I smiled a little as I knew that anywhere without him and the others, couldn't be called home at all, "You too".

I lifted my hand up to wipe my face again, in an attempt to get rid of my budding hope that everything will work out. This won't end well because of the people after me and June.
