Chapter 11: A Theif's word

A/N: Sorry for the late update, I was very busy today. I hope you still enjoy it.

Auden's Pov:

"We'll finish this conversation later,'' Those words echoed in my head for the rest of the night.

I tried to ignore those words and the added question of when later would be by playing video games for the rest of the night. I needed something to distract me from Max whining about calling Roger back.

I didn't want to scare off Roger anymore than he already is, which requires giving him space. Of all the ways to meet my mates, I never thought it would be a life-threatening situation.

I thought it would be casual like taking a walk in a park and I just so happen to spot them. Or meeting them at the grocery store because our charts bumped into each other.

I never thought that I would be blessed with more than one mate, that was a sweet surprise. Four mates, two humans, a vampire, and some powerful creature.

The next time I find Gannon, I have to ask him what is he? I could track him down now and get my answer, with that thought in mind I grabbed my phone.

Checking the time, the numbers of four-thirty am stared back at me. I narrowed my eyes before looking out at the window of my apartment, at the dark sky peeking through the curtains.

I pushed down a yawn that tried to force its way out of my throat, as I turned off my game system. After turning off the TV, I walked over to my bedroom and flopped on the bed ready for some much-needed sleep.

The next day while on my way to work, I couldn't help but bask in the afterglow of having met my soulmates. So of course, I can't help but sing a little under my breath, "All those days chasing down a daydream, all those years living in a blur, all that time never truly seeing."

My singing became interrupted when I got closer to my job. I knew that if Damon was here as well she'd get all pissy about my singing.

I shook my head as I decided that I wouldn't let her tear down my good mood. I found my soulmates and nothing can top that information.

Pulling out my security card, I wiped it and waved at the camera. The little red light switched to green, giving me entrance to the place.

I pulled the steel door opened and walked into the familiar building. It was nothing special just red bricks stacked together.

There are changing rooms, a weapons room, chill area, the debriefing room and of course the boss's office. That is where I was headed since I rarely had to go to the debriefing room.

It was only for group missions and I worked better alone. A sharp whistle that only the boss could achieve caught my attention.

A low growl leaves me because I knew that whistle came from the debriefing room. I dragged my feet as I walked into the room to see the table, the chairs, the whiteboard, the boss and Damon.

"No,'' I said immediately not willing nor wanting to hear whatever argument the boss has to why I should work with her.

Damon laughed heartily as she rolled her eyes, "Oh relax songbird. While you were out tweeting away, I did some recon and I'm just going to relay it to you. I actually have more important shit to do today, so I'm letting you have this job."

My eyes narrowed at her, "Why? Is the job too much for you, pooh bear?"

"Other more important shit" She repeated herself as a growl left her, "We don't have all day the party is in a few hours. You in or out, songbird?"

"How much?" I asked as I crossed my arms over my chest.

"the usual cut for jobs plus half of mine,'' Damon said reluctantly as she looked away in frustration.

A grin spread across my face as I said, "Tell me all about this job".

In just a few hours I knew everything Damon knew about this job and I was ready to go. My target is a jewelry set, earrings, necklace, bracelet, and ring.

Getting these items will keep me set for a few months without doing any more work. The money would be nice to try and show off for my mates.

With that in mind, I got out of my car and headed up the stone path to the large house party. I already knew the layout from watching Damon's video footage from her time here as the security system checker.

The loud music and mix scents of the party-goers hit me hard. Sometimes have sensitive senses can be the worst.

I shook off the temporary dizziness before walking further into the house. The first thing to do is to make sure that the mark is far away from the target items.

I walked around the party keeping an eye out for Argent Voller, the host of the party and the mark. It wasn't until I went in the backyard with the large pool did I spot her.

She was mingling with people and I decided that now would be my best chance. I made my way upstairs and bumped into someone who smells like lilac.

"Sweetness, Hey", I greeted my soulmate with a wide smile.

Her eyes widened a bit before she scowled at me, "Did you forget my name already?"

She gave me an easy smile as she continued, "It's ok if you did, I'm bad with names too."

I returned the easy-going smile as I said, "I didn't forget your name, I just like calling you, sweetness."

She arched an eyebrow at me, "You don't even know me enough to call me that. I could be a complete bitch."

I shrugged my shoulders as I walked around her, heading for Argent's room as I said, "I know enough about you."

The door to Argent's room was left open and amazingly the box containing the goods was open on her desk. Was she asking for someone to steal them?

I headed for the desk just as I heard footsteps following after me. I quickly grabbed the items I needed and slipped them in my pockets.

I closed the jewelry box and turned in time to see Nia at the doorway. I took a moment to take in her outfit of a simple short-sleeved t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers.  How can she make something so simple look so enticing?

"You don't know anything about me aside from my name, Auden" she crossed her arms under her breasts.

It was my turn to arch an eyebrow at her, "Why does it bother you so much, sweetness?"

"Because it's weird, we're nothing to each other. Yet, here you are calling me sweetness like we're dating and I don't like it" She tossed her arms down as she said her reason that cut me like a knife.

I walked over to her, hiding my pain with laughter until I stood before her. I lifted my hand to cup her cheek, her skin causing butterflies to flutter wildly in my body.

I leaned down letting my breath fan her face, "You're wrong Nia. We are much more than nothing to each other. I know you feel it and you're confused by it. That's ok because I will be there for you every step of the way."

Her breath fanned my lips, my nature telling me to give in to my instincts. I moved slowly closer giving her time to stop me.

When she didn't, I moved a little closer that is until I heard her whisper, "Fuck"

I froze like a statue as my nature screamed at me to kiss her at the very least. Yet how could I, when she clearly doesn't want it?

After a few breaths, Nia let lowered her head as she spoke, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have" I cut her off with a light laugh as I tilted her head up, "Don't ever apologize for getting close to me, Nia."
