Chapter 10: Phone Calls
A/N: I hope you all enjoy it!
Roger's Pov:
I was almost finished with my work for the night when my personal phone rang. I clenched my jaw knowing that it could really only be my mother. She was probably calling to pester me about going out with one of her hand-picked women.
I pulled my phone out with a sigh, only to raise an eyebrow at the sight of an unknown number. I thought for a moment about all the people that know my number and two options came. It could be that Hera, somehow found my phone number. Or it could be, Auden.
I swiped the screen, answering the call as I raised the phone to my face, "I really hope you're who I think you are."
"And if I'm not?" came the reply in a male rough voice that sounded amused.
"I would have hung up already" I answered as relaxed my jaw while I leaned back in my chair.
"Oh, so the aloof vampire does want me. Good to know," Auden's voice is a mix of casual, teasing and relieved somehow.
"I never said I didn't want you, any of you," I made that point painfully clear as a sudden longing to see him settled in my chest.
"What makes you so sure you're a bad boyfriend?" Auden asked in a soothing rumble that sounded like it came from his throat.
"History," I answered him without going into detail. I didn't like people prying into me.
"Are you going to tell me why you ran away, at least?" He asked in such a causal manner.
I blinked more times than necessary. Whatever patience I had with him went away in that moment. How did the conversation turn to this? People usually don't pry so casually. I am a noble vampire after all.
"Excuse me?" I asked in disbelief of the disrespect.
"Should I rephrase the question, because I can't understand why would you act like that unless you're planning on severing the bond," Auden's rough voice held hurt in his tone that made my chest tighten.
Before I could reply my phone started to ring with an incoming call. I let out a frustrated breath as I said quickly, "We'll finish this conversation later."
I switched calls, glad for the interruption. That is until I heard the voice on the other end, "One would think a mother wouldn't have to jump through hoops to get in contact with her only son."
I pinched the bridge of my nose as I spoke through my teeth, "Hello Mother. Maybe you wouldn't have to jump through so many hoops if you didn't call me while I'm working."
"I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear the sass in your tone. I called to tell you good news. I recently met the most perfect woman for you. Her status is as high as ours, she's gorgeous and she's already interested in you. When are you free so I can set up a date", My mother sounds excited as she waited for my answer.
"No. I'm not going on any date that you set up. I'm a busy man, I don't have room in my life for your shenanigans," I told her in a stern tone.
"No?" My mother questioned me in an almost echo like manner.
I interrupted her, "This conversation is over Mother. I love you."
With that, I hung up the phone, put it on silent mode. I finished my work for the night without further interruption. On my way home, I couldn't stop the thoughts from invading my mind. Thoughts of meeting my infinites and the earlier conversation with Auden.
I ran away because of fear. Two humans fated to be with a Vampire, a werewolf and something ancient is a recipe for disaster surely?
In what way could that end beautifully? Humans should fear monsters not be mated to them. Even if the media shines us in a romantic light, the danger will always remain.
What dangers with that ancient named Gannon bring? How is Auden not afraid of the damage he may cause by being with them?
Perhaps he doesn't see the situation as I do, he could be clouded with the euphoria of having found his mates. Is fate cruel enough to hand me the beings that are perfect for me only to rip them away because of what I am, or the enemies I have?
"Hey stranger", It was the voice I didn't want to hear earlier, Hera's voice.
I narrowed my eyes at the sight of her as suspension filled me, "Why are you here?"
She raised an eyebrow at me as she gestured around us, "Why am I outside?"
I debated if I wanted to reply to that sarcastic comment for a second. After that, I started to walk past her as if she didn't matter. She grabbed my arm to stop me mid-stride, I yanked my arm out of her hand.
"If you must know, I'm hunting. Care to join me?", She offered as she moved her hands back into her personal space.
Raising a hand to finger through my hair I considered her offer. Hunting would be a good way to relieve this tension, "Fine."
She smiled at me before she turned on her heel, facing the direction of the woods. She ran off at a speed that no human could see, I rolled my eyes at the display. Sipping my hands in my pockets, I followed her into the woods.
A fresh kill would do me good, make me feel in control of something. Fate doesn't own me, I can fight this bond. As I got deeper into the woods, I let my senses take over. Allowing the monster that only cares of blood, to come out.
We found some unfortunate campers out in the woods. I went for the female and Hera went for the male. The blood's scent and the taste didn't hold much appeal to me.
As the life left the woman all I could think is. How long would I fight the bond for? Will I have to sever the bond? Would my human mates, Nia and Cody taste as good as they smell?
