Hmm. This one isn't exactly directed at non-Moonwalkers alone. This can also apply to actual Moonwalkers, too!

Let's say you love Michael (well, that's kinda why we're all here), but then ... you're also a fan of Prince? What could non-Moonwalkers or even Moonwalkers say in response to that?

It's either:

"Why do you like all the dead people?"

"Michael Jackson hated him. Why do you like him if Michael Jackson hated him?"

Orrrrrrr

"Oh my God! You're betraying Michael by liking someone else other than him!"

Let me run through these three irritating sentences.

Now, I became a Purple Dove (my name for a Prince fan) on June 15 of this year (and no – it's not just because he died; it's because I wanted to see what all the hype about him was for, and I ended up being drawn in). Of course, I've been a Moonwalker for seven years now, and in Michael's case, I really did find out about him when he died.

I can't help that I'm always too late. I didn't plan that. And neither did anyone else that's in the same situation as I'm in. Honestly, if I had found out about Michael sooner than 2009, I would still have been a fan anyway. It's kind of the same with Prince; if I had explored the "hype" sooner, I would have become a fan sooner.

So ... just because we're a little late, does that mean we're bad fans? No. It's never too late to be a fan of someone. Man, I got friends who like Beethoven and Mozart – they're from decades and centuries ago!

Anyway, coming away from the "bad fan" thing, I wanna discuss the "You only like dead people" thing. Okay, yes, it's true! We realised that. But ... do you have to constantly remind us of that fact? And besides, there isn't just Michael and Prince in the world – there are other singers too. I mean, in my case, I don't like any living artists or bands apart from 3T and the Jacksons (duh!), but there are people who do, so they don't "just like dead people".

As for the second statement; the whole "You shouldn't like Prince cos Michael hated him" – or even vice versa – is silly. Even some Moonwalkers say it, and I don't get why! Michael influences almost every part of my life, but he ain't gonna influence which artists and bands I like. He idolised James Brown and Fred Astaire and whoever else, but I've never even properly heard their music, let alone become a fan of it! Of course, I smile when I hear their names because I know Michael liked them, but that's about it.

It's the same with Prince. Just because Michael and he had a rivalry, that doesn't mean to say that it's bad for a Moonwalker to be a Purple Dove, or for a Purple Dove to be a Moonwalker. And I honestly believe that their rivalry was only friendly anyway – I even heard that after Michael's death in 2009, Prince locked himself in his room for days from the grief.

I honestly think they were only friendly rivals. Nothing serious at all.

Now we come to the final statement – "You can't like anyone other than Michael Jackson!" – this is more something a Moonwalker would say – more specifically, one that dislikes Prince.

They basically think it's appalling to even look in another artist's direction if they're meant to be a dedicated Moonwalker. I mean, what?

Don't get me wrong; I've been there. I hold my hands up and admit that there was a time when I found it just as wrong as some people still do today, but I've realised that there are other artists that kinda come as a second place – namely, in my case, Prince.

Michael will forever be my main idol; I'm like the most obsessive Moonwalker ever, I swear! But Prince is just starting to become a part of my life too, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It isn't just Prince. Personally I don't like modern artists, but if modern artists are also what a Moonwalker likes alongside Michael, then so be it! It's their life and their choice. They aren't betraying Michael. They're just exploring the field; something he would have liked to do himself!

And besides ... Michael didn't just idolise one person. He idolised many. And all those greats helped develop him into what he became. Think about that.

Basically, don't get angry if someone says they're a Moonwalker and a Purple Dove. It don't matter.

Just like it don't matter if you're black or white.
