Chapter 1 - Part I - Satan Doesn't know How to use a Laser Gun!

- Song of the Page -
NEVER STOP: JUNG YOUTH X HIDDEN CITIZEN

I groaned.

My body felt heavy, as if gravity was pulling me under the ground to swallow me whole. Trying to cope with the bright light, I blinked several times. I tried moving my hands but they felt like lead, too heavy for me to lift.

It was nearly impossible to see anything clearly, as if everything around me moved behind a hazy glass. The first thing that I saw was the gigantic trees that loomed above me, blocking the sunlight by their fleshy leaves. Something was strange about the trees, I didn’t think I’d seen these trees anywhere around, not even in the books. I was pondering over that fact when I remembered Dyson.

I turned around my head slowly and saw his motionless body sprawled beside me on the driving seat. His hands were on his both sides limp, I felt the strange urge as I looked closely at him.

“D... Dy,” My tongue felt so dry as if I had rubbed it over sand paper, “Dyson... are you... all right?” I nudged him, but he didn’t reply. Worry came crashing on me and unsettled feelings built a nest in my stomach. I slowly reached out feeling the strength returning to my hands as I took a hold of Dyson's hand and pushed away his brand new smart watch checking his pulse. I felt the soft thrumming sensation against my fingertips and I sighed with relief. I was glad he was alive and also had himself strapped by the seatbelt.

A sudden nausea swirled like a whirlpool in my stomach, followed by an urge to throw up everything that I had stuffed myself before my mission. And the strong scent of Dyson's cologne wasn't helping, rather I found it strange because it didn't smell so strong last night.

I needed some fresh air.

I unlocked the door and with my unsteady feet I led myself out of the truck, for a moment the world seemed to be spinning around me and I gripped the car door with one hand to steady myself. I pulled off the mask, I took a deep breath to shoo away my nausea.

I heard the snap of twigs over the ringing of my ears and my instincts came alive. My eyes snapped in the direction where I'd heard the snap, by the sound of it I realized that it wasn't quite far from us. I squinted my eyes trying to locate someone but the canopy of green evaded my vision. The forest was strange as if it was a whole living entity instead of a home for different species. I had learned to survive in the forests but I had never seen the trees that were towering around me.

It felt like another world, strange probably, a dangerous one. It felt like the trees were too ancient, almost of the Jurassic age. The thought made me gulp, I didn't want to encounter any dinosaurs here.

I heard the sound of the twigs snapping again and my thoughts evaporated in a second casting my attention to the situation at hand.

Was someone following us? Was it Marco's goons? Were they in our pursuit all night?

Wasting no time I cursed under my breath and tugged at Dyson's baggy grey shirt, "Dyson! Dyson, wake up!" I hissed keeping my ears on alert for any sounds.

"Dyson, for Hell's sake this isn't the time to have a beauty sleep!" I tugged harder but the son of a sloth was sleeping as soundly as if he was in his mama's arms.

"God dammit!" I hissed and heard another snap.

I cursed him some more as I grabbed my weaponry bag thinking that if I shot Dyson in his foot would he till be sleeping. I shoved the thought away and decided to go a look out for the danger and then come back and kick his ass. I left one gun to Dyson. Wondering if he'd need one with me around. But then again he didn’t even know how to use a gun.

Another twig cracked.

I was on high alert now ready to kill as I scoured through the side of the truck keeping an eye on my surroundings to shoot down any ambush. I looked in the direction where I'd last heard the twig snapping. After one last look at the truck I walked cautiously towards the large tree whose trunk was almost three times my size and it rose till the sky like a ten or maybe even twenty storey tree. I pointed my gun ahead still keeping my senses on high alert for any signs of danger and moved towards the greenish blue looking bushes which had some deep blue looking berries.

My chest felt tight by every step I took, and my stomach lurched with added sweat on my forehead and palms. I wore my mask keeping in mind that this strange forest might also have some strange insects and I didn't want to have some bizarre disease after getting bitten by some rare insect. I wondered where I was, this place was giving me creeps and not to mention that air seemed somewhat different almost as if I was smelling various scents at once.

The cracking again came from another direction, and my feet moved towards it. With every passing second my heart started squeezing tighter and my mind had completely lost the track of the route. The forest became more gruesome with an uneven surface and grueling surrounding where twigs and leaves crumbled under my feet. Occasionally, I kicked a few stones. I followed the sound which faded into the depth of the forest and I saw the moving bushes with reddish blue leaves. I pointed my gun at the bush and took a shot, I almost yelped in surprise jumping back as a little fluffy creature pounced out of the bush looked at me with little round red eyes and twitching nose. A wild rabbit!

I huffed while opened the mask and clenched my fists, I ran a hand through my hair feeling my fingers getting stuck in the tangles, I groaned and tied my hair back in a tight bun and for a moment looked at the way where the bunny went. I was glad I didn't shoot it, the poor creature. I felt the cramps in my abdomen and felt my head swirling.

“You gotta be kidding me.”

Then I threw up.

I should have dragged Dyson's ass out of the truck, but my knees felt weak and my vision got blurred. Not to mention the strong scent of the surroundings was messing up with my head making it ache more.

I looked behind and saw there was nothing but trees and the wild vegetation that surrounded me; no clue where I came from. I cursed myself for being careless as this was clearly an unknown territory and I just ventured away alone with leaving any marks.

After some time the cursing of my mind seemed to make my head throb and my body felt so weak and heavy that I felt like I was dragging along a second me on my back along with my weaponry bag. My eyelids felt droopy and my throat was dry, I wanted water and also some warm food. The sunlight filtered down from the fleshy leaves seemed to be greenish gold and I felt like this place was a part of some fairy tale or I was just dreaming. It didn't change the fact that the place was hellishly humid and smelly. I took another step forward and felt the tip of my boot getting caught into something and I fell forward. I didn't have enough strength to force myself up and the growing blackness around my vision simply grew drowning me in complete oblivion.

*****

Well, I was hoping to awaken by the gorgeous Lucifer but to my displeasure, a fit of unfamiliar curses and distant screams arose me.

I sat up, holding my throbbing head as if I had drank a barrel of tequila last night. Then a mixed smell of vomit, urine and sweat hit my nose.

“Freaking hell!”

I clasped both of my hands around my nose and mouth, desperately avoiding the bile that had reached my throat to come out any moment. If I wasn’t awake then, I was now. I opened my eyes.

Long iron bars came to my view.

I blinked and saw a few men standing there across from me surrounded by three iron barred walls one side had a vintage rusted stone wall. A look of disgust, shock or maybe both of them together, plastered on their faces when their eyes landed on me. They all had the same attires: matching uniforms and trousers, however, dirt covered most of their clothes.

The place seemed like an old dungeon with the sound of cries resonating and echoing from the black stoned walls. The burning torches lit up the area and I was befuddled for a moment. Didn't they have electricity connection down here?

My brain struggled to recover memories from the previous night which had a bitter climax. I remembered our truck hit a trunk and we...

Looked like I indeed was dead. Maybe I would be greeted by Satan next. Would I meet the people whom I’d killed in past here? The thought was ridiculous yet it was possible since none of them were worth of going to heaven, all of them were supposed to be writhing in the embers down here in hell. But was hell really like this?

Nothing registered in my head and confusion devoured me more than it already had when a squeal snapped my attention.

A man who had heavy armour covering his chest, and a sword hung from his belt stood near the locked door. Keys rustled in the iron lock and opening the cell he almost threw a man inside as if he was a dirty cat. Red drops had dried down on the poor man's once seemingly pretty white shirt. He reeked of blood and pain, I felt slightly uneasy as I could almost taste the scent of blood on my tongue. A groan escaped his as he hit the ground before my feet. His companions caught his torn body and the stench of hopelessness thickened the cell. The poor man’s eyes fell on me and the sorrow turned into a look of disgust.

I raised a brow. What crawled up his ass and died there?

“The next time if you don’t open your mouth, this will be your outcome!” The heavy armoured man shouted and stormed away before locking our cell.

Was I in a jail? Jail of the Demon lord, maybe.

I looked at the soldiers. They had frustration, sadness and despair wrapped around them. Pretty sorry state to be in, they were huddled together as a group and by the looks they seemed like they were pretty young, almost in their twenties or even less than that.

One of them sighed and mumbled, “They’ll kill us.”

"They're too ruthless." One of them groaned wiping the blood from his mouth feeling as if he was about to cry.

Another man who seemed more like a boy said after him, his face was strong with no emotions, “Let them be! We shall die before betraying our motherland.”

Weren’t they already dead?

All of their face changed to a proud and nation loving soldiers.

“Besides,” the man added, his hands fisted on his lap, “if we give out any information, Prince Rogan might...” all of them nodded and gulped looking at the interesting floor. They seemed as if they had suddenly reminisced about a bad memory of eating a fungus pudding.

“Bu-but, we all know, he will be coming...” One of them who seemed like he was the youngest said trying to bloom a hope through the garden of despair.

“Yes! Only to take Lushberg.” Another one said, crushing it and shattering the remnants of poor boy's hope.

Prince Rogan... That must be Satan’s name. But I had expected it would be Lucifer.

One of them asked with a cracking voice as if preparing for a fit of sobbing session, “So... wh-what will happen to us?” his lips quivered.

“No fret! They’ll come here and we’ll be saved...” His voice had a trace of doubt, otherwise.

Everyone sighed, even they could sense the lack of confidence in his statement.

“Err... Excuse me, but can you tell me where are we exactly?” I asked, gathering their attention. Was there any possibility after I died I ended up in a jail- if they had any- in Hell?

I highly doubted that God would suddenly have a change of heart and send me to heaven. The amount of my sins had already filled a room worth full of treasure.

Maybe the next person would be me in the infernal cauldron of Demon King Rogan and he would enjoy frying me in it. I could almost imagine him wiggling his demon tail and horns.

“We are in Lushberg.” The man who was about to cry answered.

“So, this Prince Rogan is the demon Lord of Lushberg?”

They looked at me with a look of astonishment.

“No! He is our prince. Prince of Ostrock. Well, you’re quite right, he is a daemon!”

Another soldier beside him smacked his head, “Watch your mouth before talking bad about our Prince! She’s a human!” He hissed.

Human? So what are they, aliens?

On the other hand, if I considered the fact I was in Hell, they might be demons themselves.

After getting a hit in his head, he realized his words and his eyes became wide, “Do-don’t tell him or else I’ll be dead.” His tears almost came to the edges of his eyes. Who allowed the kids to be the part of a fight?

It struck me a moment later that I saw some different glint in his eyes, I frowned as I squinted my eyes, it was almost hard to noticed but his eyes were a dazzling shade of bright red. I looked at the rest of the boys and everyone had the same eyes. Red, it was hard to notice it in the dark but in the meagre light from the burning torches I could see their eyes which almost looked like the red embers. They indeed were demons.

But what were they doing in a prison?

“What are you guys doing here, in prison?” I asked.

“Its a war!” He sighed, “between the great kingdom of Ostrock and Slithrot, we're war prisoners.”

“Slit... throat? War prisoners?” I nodded, still trying to draw a straight line to the facts they were blabbering.

He nodded, his face was now behind his fingers which had the dried blood on them. “We were sent here to defeat their ally, Lushberg.” He leaned his head back to the iron bars, supporting his back. He opened his eyes and asked, “What a human is doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be in a slave’s prison?”

“Slave’s prison?”

His companion answered, “She doesn’t have a collar around her neck.”

I narrowed my eyes at them. What the hell were they blabbering about?

Then I remembered I had forgotten about my partner!

Dyson!

My stomach churned as I remembered him sleeping in that truck. He must have died and came here as well, Marco's men mistve killed us when I passed out in that strange forest. I sighed, I was too young to die, I still had a lot of work to do.

But then again, Dyson didn't deserve this! I didn't save him to let him die because of my stupidity.

I started chewing my lower lip. It was all my fault!

I should have listened to him, when he said to come straight leaving all that tempting ideas of making millions. I released a breath.

Well, the day couldn’t get any better than this. I didn’t know where Dyson was and taking in my surroundings I was sure I was in some crazy place. I could only hope that Dyson would somehow find me from here and if he couldn’t then I’d have to find a way to escape this place. I shook my head and ran my hand through my hair as I tried to swallow my frustration as my fingers got tangled in the knots. I tied my hair up again and decided to see my chances in this place. First thing to look for was; my weapons.

I stretched my hands for my swords but groped at my back, realising the absence of my weaponry bag. I looked behind me, even my guns that were attached to my body suit, were missing. I couldn’t even find my earpiece, which I was pretty sure I would have left in the truck. However, a few short knives, knuckles and my mini gadgets were still hidden under my black suit. It was an all purpose suit that stuck to my body like a second skin but had various concealed pockets.

Then my hands moved to my face, and I noticed I didn’t have the mask either. I almost slapped my forehead for not realising that earlier.

Another confusion dawned in me. If I had died what the hell were my gadgets doing here?

A bulb went off, and a grin popped on my face. I had my gadgets!

I stood up catching the soldiers’ attention and took out my latest gadget which Dyson had acquired from one of his friends. Well, he was famous for his name Spider and had a lot of contacts with the smartest people all over the world.

My stomach danced as I didn’t need to taste the oil of the infernal cauldron any more.

If Dyson was in Hell, I was sure I could find him. The question was where?

I pointed the black metal tube, which was the same size as my middle finger, to the lock. I pressed the small button and a green light came out, cutting down the lock and a few iron bars with it.

I smirked and heard a few gasps behind me. Turning around, I saw they had gaps in their mouths, with their long canines peeking out.

“Wh-wha-what was that?” He asked, stammering as he pointed at my hand.

So, the Hell had seen no development in science yet.

“Well, seems like Satan doesn’t know how to use a laser.” I smirked.

“Are-are you a witch?” One of them said, “but weren’t all of them killed?”

I quirked my brow. What?

“Do I look like one?” I put my hands on my hips, and their eyes scrutinized me from top to bottom.

They nodded.

I rolled my eyes. “Oh, fine then I'm the witch Maleficent of the moors and I was summoned to save all of you. No worries children!” I said and moved my hands in the air, imitating the dramatic movements of a Shakespeare’s acts.

“No, wonder they hadn’t put her in the slave’s prison.” One of them said.

“Anyway, I don’t have time.” I turned around and opened the cell.

I needed to know from where they had captured me, I might find Dyson there. If my gadgets were here, then my weapons wouldn't be far away.

Every prisoners’ eye was on me. I looked around for any upcoming threats, but there weren’t any watchmen.

"What are you waiting for? An invitation card? I asked looking at the bunch of soldiers who resembled more to the terrified children.

I stepped out of the dungeon for the first time feeling the strange coldness that the area had. The sounds of the strangled cries and the scent of blood, vomit, urine and the earth was almost pressing over me from all sides. I never thought I'd see a place like this after I had visited the underground black market which had announced the auction of the young girls. That place was bad but this, this place was worse way gruesome than that. I shook my head feeling the sense of death enveloping the place.

I looked behind me, the soldiers though hesitantly had decided to follow me out of the cell and were walking up the stairs behind me. Once we reached at the top I stopped gesturing them to stop behind me, they went still and I slowly opened the door and peeked out. Nobody was in sight, I opened it a little bit more to be extra cautious but there wasn't anyone else just the large corridor with stony walls and burning torches stretched empty before me.

"It's clear." I spoke and stepped out with them following behind me.

All of the soldiers now stood in the hallway seeming disoriented as the newborn chicks.

"Here's where we seperate ways." I said and they looked at me with slight fear and wariness. They weren't expecting me to lead them, were they?

"Well, this is the enemy's base, right? Go find the head and kill him." I said and one of them looked at me with wide eyes.

"That's right, it's time for us to show that we're not the green lads. Let's go men and get the Generalof Lushburg!" He announced and his comrades seemed like they were awoken from their stupor as they cheered.

"Thank you for helping us out," He turned to me and said and I felt slightly uneasy, I wasn't used to being thanked, "although you are a witch but you still have our gratitude." I narrowed my eyes and would've enlightened him with some of my colorful vocabulary but then I decided against it and turned to go on my way.

The surroundings were totally different then which I was used too, there weren't any cameras in this place so I was a little bit at ease but I still couldn't decide why I was feeling as if I was in some danger.

With a thumping heart, I started forming a strategy to escape from there, I moved forward. I took a corridor, and it ended in two parts. On my left, there was a silent passageway leading to a new set of cells and on my right, I heard a sounds of yelling, shouting, probably an important conversation was going on.

I took the right turn, and it led me towards a chamber where three soldiers were in deep and thoughtful conversation.

However, a black duffle bag caught my eyes, and I knew where to find my weapons.
