Ch. 15- An Evening Flight

Ch. 15- An Evening Flight

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week later, Blade and I managed to convince mom and dad to let us have another sleep over with Emerald, so Blade and I headed to the cove, laughing as we chatted.
"When you going to tell someone about Emerald?" he asked.
I shrugged, "Probably on Dragon Day."
"That's a few months away."
"Yeah. Gives me time to enjoy Emerald in peace before everyone starts surrounding Emerald just because she's a night fury."
"True." We walked in silence before we walked through the small entrance of the cove. "Emerald!!!" Blade yelled, running up to Emerald.
Once Blade was done hugging Emerald I gave her one, "Hey, girl. Wanna go for a flight?"
At those words, she pulled back and started bouncing around.
I chuckled, "Okay, then. I'll go get the gear. Blade, put your flight suit on."
Ten minutes later, I had Emerald's gear on, my flight suit on, and Blade had his on as well.
"Hurry! Hurry!" he cried, already on Emerald.
"Whoa, boy. Be patient, Blade," I laughed, getting behind him and putting my foot in its spot before opening half of Emerald's tail. Blade eagerly leaned forward. "Lets go, Em." Emerald jumped up and started flying straight up with amazing speed. When we were so high most clouds were behind us and it was a bit difficult to breathe. Emerald stopped flapping her wings, and we just fell.
Blade had his hands above his head, laughing like a maniac. But I can't blame him, for I was doing something similar to that.
As we neared the surface of the world, I noticed that Emerald had, ever so slightly, had not been flying straight up and falling straight down, for we were now over the ocean.
Right before we hit the calm waters, Emerald opened her wings and flew horizontal to the ocean, her tail barely hit the water.
"That was awesome!" Blade yelled, punching his arm in the air.
"Good job, girl," I told her, petting the side of her head, "A little close though, but still good."
"I guess that was close," Blade said, thoughtfully, before shrugging his shoulders, "Oh, well. Let's do something else fun!"
I looked around us and saw another night fury coming our way.
"Blade! Helmet on, now!" I said, pulling his helmet out of Emerald's saddle and shoving it on his head.
"Ouch! Why?" he whined.
"Dad is coming, and he can't know about Emerald. So just follow my lead and don't say anything, understand?"
"I understand," he said, quietly.
"Hey! You on the Night Fury! Secret! Hey, Secret!" dad called. "Wait up!"
"Secret?" Blade asked.
"Yes. Now hush up, please!"
I slowed Emerald down slightly- for some dumb reason- and allowed him to catch up.
"Hey. Long time no see, huh?" he asked. "Who's this?" he asked, pointing to Blade.
"I guess it has been a long time and this is my little brother," I answered, hopefully making my voice unrecognizable, hopefully.
"I didn't know you had any brothers? Do you have a sister? How many brothers do you have?"
"I have three brothers and one sister," I said, counting Emerald as my one sister. Doing so would make Secret less like Starfire.
"Are you the oldest?"
"No. But we don't see our older brother much."
"What's your siblings' names?"
Idea! "My sister's name is Emerald, she's about ten years old and plays with some girl named-"
"Starfire?" he asked, eagerly. "Almost every day?"
"Yes. How did you know?" I asked, my smile hidden by my mask. If I counted Emerald as my sister, which I did, every word I spoke was the truth, just twisted.
"Starfire is my daughter's name, and she disappears almost every day playing with someone named Emerald."
And that is how you prove your best friend is real, I thought to myself, my smirk hidden by my mask. Blade elbowed me softly.
"That explains a lot," he said, running his hand through his hair, messing it up even more.
"I'm sure it does. Anyway, we gotta get going, bye-"
"Wait! What island do you live on?"
"Why does it matter?"
"It doesn't. I just want to know. I'm curious."
"My older brother travels a lot," which was true, Bard traveled a lot, just not far, "hence why we rarely see him."
"Oh. Where do you live?"
"That, you do not need to know."
"Question: does your little brother here speak?" dad asked.
"To strangers: no."
"Oh."
"We have to go. Bye!" I called, already flying away from Berk. Apparently, while we were flying, we were heading toward Berk. When we left I could see the edge of the village.
I lead Emerald to the cave on a different island, with our emergency supplies.
"We stay here until dark. Then we'll leave under the cover of night," I said, hopping off Emerald.
"Okay," Blade agreed, following me as I set up a few things. We set up a small curtain and took turns changing behind it. I noticed my clothes were almost to small. "Star, I'm going to need new ones soon," he said, gesturing to his clothes. "These are almost too small."
"Okay. I'll replace them sometime next week."
We goofed around with Emerald until sunset, then we got back in our flight suits and flew around for a while.
The sun making the sky all those pretty colors. The white puffy clouds. Smooth gliding. All those simple little things put together equals an awesome flight at sunset.
Emerald loves long flights around this time of day, I do too, so I try and do it often.
Near dark, we started heading closer to the cove, but still kept flying. All to soon, it was dark, and we had to head back.
Emerald landed in the cove and we got ready for bed. Almost forgetting, we ate dinner before lying down and settling into a peaceful sleep.
