Chapter Three: Skincare (on a budget)

Let's be honest with ourselves: we've all wanted it. You know what I'm talking about. The factor that every influencer, celebrity, and TikToker seems too have: beautiful, glowing, flawlessly clear skin.

It's attractive. It's swoon-worthy. It's something everyone has wished they had at least once. So, naturally, to achieve said skin, we turn to our trust-worthy influencers, celebrity's, and TikTokers to spill their secrets about the gorgeous skin they have.

The process usually goes something like this.

You scroll on TikTok or said social media platform, and a video or tweet or post comes up about skincare. Instantly you click and listen to the list of products that will change your skin forever. Then you look them up, hit buy, and there you go! The secret to perfect skin, coming in just two days.

Wrong.

Because no matter how many times we see that same CeraVe moisturizer on our ForYou Page, nothing always works. Why, you might be wondering? Because like bodies, every skin is different. Some people have oily, some people have dry, etc. etc. And because of that, not every skin will fit with said product. If you're unsure about your skin type, here's a quick chart:




Now that you've figured out your skin type, here's some easy, cheap ways to get that glowing skin you've always wanted.

Step 1: See your dermo.

Believe it or not, the dermatologist that you thought just made sure you were wearing sunscreen is actually a useful source. Next time your in doubt about your skin, call your dermo up with some questions and recommendations of products that fit your skin type or schedule an appointment if you want to take it further. While scheduling an appointment might be a little pricy, it's totally worth it in the end.

Step 2: Know your stuff.

DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT just go buy a skincare product you see somewhere without doing your research. Please, please, please research said product before pressing the buy button, even if the reviews are amazing. It's essential that you make sure your product is safe for your skin type and from a safe source before you just simply make a purchase. Ask yourself questions too. Some might include: How many times do I have to wash my face? Do I have any skin allergies? And when your in extreme doubt or indecision, call up the dermo again.

Step 3: Wear your sunscreen.

Just in case you haven't heard it for the trillionth time in your lifetime like I have, WEAR SUNSCREEN. Believe me when I say this is one out of a million false skincare recommendations that are true. A few I personally recommend are SunBum and Neutrogena. The nice thing about sunscreen is not only does it prevent wrinkles and scary things like skin cancer (yikes), it's cheap and perfect for any skin type.

Step 4: Be consistent.

I know, I know. You just got home from a long day of school, practice, and then babysitting... ugh. All you want to do is just fall into bed and never get out again. I get that, I've been there. But it's so, so important that you are consistent with your routine. Do it every morning or night, or just once if that's what works for you. It pays off, I promise!
