Chapter Four: How to Learn to Love Water (and why its essential you do)
Before you skip this chapter because it sounds stupid, think about the last time you drank a tall, cold glass of water. For all you of you people who just raised your hand, congratulations! Here's a gold medal sent through a screen. But for the people who just groaned and rather pound their head against a wall then drink a single ounce of H2o, this is for you.
We've all heard it before. Influncers, tiktokers, instagramers and everyone inbetween have said it: drink water it's, like, incredible for you! And though it might seem superficial and wayyy too easy, its actually one of the only secrets to beauty inside and out thats extremely free and true. In this chapter we'll be covering why you should drink more water and how you can with a few easy steps.
But before we start, heres a chart with some benefits of water before we get into details.
Alright, now lets get into it.
Benefit number one: Improves your physical appearance.
Believe it or not, drinking half of your body weight in water everyday can help improve your appearance. It is scientifically proven that if you drink water for one week you can have guarenteed better skin, hair, and potential help in weight loss. Water also helps speed up your metabolism which can help with weight loss as well. (If that's your goal).
Benefit number two: Helps your body from the inside.
To sum it up, drinking water helps your internal organs in many, many ways. Drinking water can not only improve all of your most important organs like your heart, liver, spinal cord, joints and lungs but it can also help lengthen your lifespan. We *heart* a drink that lets us enjoy Starbucks for more years to come ;).
Benefit number three: Improves your mental health.
Not only is drinking water good for your physical health, its also wonderful for your mental health. Drinking water can actually help lower the stress hormone by flushing out the toxins in your body along with cortisol, the hormone that causes stress. Water can also help improve your mood by flushing out other toxins and keeping you happy and healthy!
Benefit number four: Improves your sleep.
Sn-sn-snore.... oops, sorry, I just fell asleep on my keyboard after drinking all that water all day. Cause believe it or not, after water makes you energized during the day, it digests in your body and causes you to sleep safely and soundly throughout the night. And who doesn't love a goodnights rest??
Okay, so now that you've learned alllll about water and how wonderful it is, it's time to figure out how to actually enjoy this drink that tastes like... nothing. Trust me, I know how hard it can be to drink water. I used to get the worst headaches and fatigue because of being dehydrated but once I started to drink 32 ounces of water a day, that all changed. Here's how I did it.
Tip number one: Workout.
I know it sounds stupid and obvious, but once I started to workout and run on my treadmill, I finally realized how amazing water was and forgot all about how much I hated it. And after a few miles of hardcore interval training, my body and throat were dying for that beautiful clear liquid called water. I also started to crave water more after I joined more sports and worked up more a sweat. It was honestly magical how fast I fell in love with it. There's a reason they call it "the nectar of the gods" people.
Tip number two: Bring water everywhere.
Yep, I mean it. Bring water to work. To school. To that babysitting job you have. To your next big business (or student council) meeting. Bring it EVERYWHERE. Then you'll never have the excuse of "I didn't bring my waterbottle" anymore. When you have it, you'll drink it.
Tip number three: Eat more vegetables and fruit.
Not only are fruits and veg good for your body and healthy, they're also often full of water, which can help you get your water intake in. Perfection.
Tip number four: Set goals for yourself.
You don't need a doctor or this book to remind yourself to stay hydrated everyday. Do it yourself! With constant reminders ofc. Set up a reminder on your phone that says "don't forget to study hard & stay hydrated" that goes off at your busiest part of the day so you never forget. (This tecnique helped me soooo much).
Or buy one of those waterbottles with motivational sayings to help cheer you on. I promise you it will be your best investment ever. Or use the reward sysetm; if you finish your water goal for a week, you'll have a big slice of cake on Sunday. Water = desserts. What more could you ask for?
And that's it for this chapter! Hoped it helped and motivated you to drink more water. Now what are you waiting for? Vote and go get that tall glass of health!
