The Importance Of A Description

Following the last chapter, I've decided to make a chapter on probably the next most important thing in attracting people to read your book. The description (or the blurb- whatever you want to call it).

I cannot stress how important the description is, and how getting it right will mean so many people will want to read your book.

Descriptions help a potential reader decide whether or not they want to read your book- it's almost like a first impression thing. If your description is grammatically accurate and interesting, more people are likely to click that 'Read' button.

I've got some Do's and Dont's for writing your description.

DO add some information about the plot e.g. Character names, slight backstory and maybe what happens towards the start of the story.

DON'T give everything away about the plot or give no information about the plot.

DO check over your description extra carefully because you want no spelling/ grammar mistakes.

DON'T use the phrase 'read to find out' because it sounds cheesy and unprofessional.

DO ask rhetorical questions (within reason) as this will spike the reader's interest.

DON'T have an author's note in the description of your story, if you need one to explain something about the story, make a chapter about it at the start.

DO make sure that the information you give in your blurb is relevant to the book.

DON'T make your description too short or ridiculously long. (Sometimes short, one line descriptions work really well- this is all conditional advice)

This is kind of just an advice chapter but what most writers will find is that if you have a good description, more people will read your work.

Ok now completely off topic, I just want to address something that has been coming up quite a lot recently on this book.

If you are following the tips but not seeing results- do not blame me. It is not my fault that your book isn't getting reads, this guide isn't a 'guaranteed to work' book. Never claimed it was.

Most of the people commenting this also have been following the steps for probably one hour. Gaining reads is not an overnight thing! Give it time.

As someone who dedicates quite a lot of their time to helping new writers and people on Wattpad, it saddens me that people either try to purposefully discredit me or decide to comment negative things when they could PM me and I could give them advice.

From now on, if I see someone commenting something like 'These tips don't work' or 'Since I've following these tips, I've stopped getting reads' I will just ignore your comments. PM me if you have an issue. I'm gonna stop deleting these comments and just ignore them now.

Please leave any topics that you would like me to make chapters on!
