How to shade/lighting
Hello, it's been a while '^^
Here's a request from ImAnIdiotXx
1. Find light source
So you've got your drawing that you wanna shade.
You have to decide where the lighting is coming from. There can be more than one light source but I don't know how to do that, lmao, so let's leave it at one.
This drawing's lighting is coming from the front/top
2. Simple shading
With any brush you want to use, start some basic shading where the light don't hit.
Think 3 dimensionally, so you can find where the shapes hang over each other and create shadows. You must use big blocks, and not shade just the very edges of your drawing.
I rlly don't know how to explain this haha
3. More detailed shading
Choose a different, darker color (I chose blue first, now it's a kinda purpley color) and go back and shade it all again, except pay attention to the details more. Don't cover all the shading you did from the last step.
4. Simple lighting
Start on the lighting using a (surprise, surprise,) lighter color. You can choose the color depending on where and when your drawing exists.
Color mostly everywhere you didn't touch with the shading. Use big blocks.
5. Extra
Play around with the add and overlay layers (sorry if you're doing it traditionally) using a wider variety of colors. Make your brush size really big and lightly go over all the places that you think needs to be lighter/darker.
(Don't forget about your light source)
6. Harsh lighting
Using white, color the spots where the light source directly hits the thing you're drawing. As you can see, I suck at drawing/shading crystals (that's what those blue things are), so it's not apparent, but the facets facing up are mostly all white.
Use a blur tool to soften the white where you think is needed.
7. Finish
Add your background and any additional details you missed, and voila! You have finished your drawing^^
Hope that was helpful! See ya next time! <3<3<3
