Happpeh Bertdai, Char
"'Kay, guys. Today's Char's birthday." Cookie barely kept her voice above a whisper. Even though they had specifically asked Ally to keep her busy outside by teaching her some new broom tricks, you could never be too careful.
"And we HAVE to do something for her," Gina added. The two were close friends, practically reading each other's minds.
Amser stuck her hand in the air, like they were still in class. Without waiting to be asked, she said, "We throw a party, don't we?"
"Exactly," Gina agreed. "Only, there's one problem..."
"What?" Olivia asked.
"...we don't know any 'make-food-appear' spells." Cookie hung her head.
Fira rolled her eyes. "Seriously? You two didn't pay ANY attention in charms, did you?" she asked. She shot Amser a look, who just shrugged.
"Uhm..." both Gina and Cookie shifted uncomfortably.
"Well, all you need to do is..." Fira launched into a long, boring explanation in which everybody except for Amser started to fall asleep, who looked like she was only awake because Fira was one of her best friends.
"Right, okay," Olivia said, apparently conscious again. "So do the hocus-pocus and let's get this party STARTED."
Fira stood up, taking out her wand from underneath her robes; which she STILL hadn't taken off. She muttered a few words, flicked her wrist, and...
Nothing.
Just then, an owl fluttered in through the window. It was Ally's, Cheese, and Gina took the envelope from it as carefully as she could. " 'Charlotte knows all the movz'... 'Movz'?" she asked, shooting FIra a look. Fira shrugged. " 'All the moves I do. Hurry up!' " Gina put the note down, biting her lip.
"I'd say we have ten minutes to do this spell, if that," Cookie said nervously.
All eyes turned to Olivia.
Olivia put her hands up; "Look, I do weather charms, not food ones, okay?"
"Do you have a better idea?" Amser asked. "It's not like we could just steal a cake from the kitchen..." she trailed off, her eyes wide. Gina and Cookie exchanged looks, grinning.
"We got this," Gina said offhandedly, holding the portrait frame for Cookie. "See ya in a bit." They climbed through and into the halls.
All three of the 'Elemental Witches' furrowed their eyebrows. Stealing was prohibited in school... then again, so was throwing a party in the common rooms.
Back near the kitchens, Cookie and Gina were trying to figure out the best way to take a large, chocolate cake positioned right on the countertop. The house elves scurried everywhere, fixing more food... Gina narrowed her eyes. "Look," she whispered, nudging Cookie. "They have a set pattern, watch."
Cookie squinted as the elves marched around the kitchen, performing the same procedure again and again. "We've got to get that one to move, though," she whispered back.
Gina grinned. "I'm on it." She took out her wand and flicked her wrist, saying something so quiet that Cookie couldn't even hear it. There was a small rattling noise from the kitchen, and the elf near the cake hustled away to investigate.
"Quick," Cookie said as Gina went in to get it, holding the door open so that nobody would hear it slam shut. Gina scooped up the cake and stepped out of the kitchen just as the elf returned. Cookie shut the door as quietly and quickly as she could before leading the way back to the common rooms, taking every shortcut she knew. "Wattpad, wattpad," she told the portrait, and it swung open.
"We've got it," Gina said breathlessly as they climbed in through the portrait hole. "One chocolate cake, right here."
"Good," Amser said. "Ally can't keep Char down there much longer." Cookie passed the cake to Fira.
"Do your stuff, Ms. Liykose," she said. Fira passed her wand over the cake and a rainbow array of frosting appeared, spelling out the words 'Happy Birthday Charlotte Lynn'.
The portrait swung open and in hopped Ally, out of breath. "She's... she's coming," she said, gasping.
"What?! All we've got is a cake!" Cookie protested, but she didn't have time to say anymore. Just then, Charlotte Lynn herself climbed into the common room.
"What've we got here?" she asked, looking at the cake.
"Happeh Bertdai," Cookie said, patting her on the back. "Sorry all we've got is the cake, but Ally isn't that good at keeping people distracted." Ally gave her the middle finger, which Cookie ignored.
"Wait, you guys know what we have to do, right?" Amser asked. "Sing Happy Birthday!"
"I don't sing," Char said, but Cookie and Gina locked their arms around her shoulders in a friendship hug and the entire group belted out:
Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To You
Happy Birthday Dear Charlotte,
Happy Birthday To
"THE HECK WITH IT! LET'S JUST EAT THE CAKE!" Cookie shouted, dropping her arms and tearing a chunk off the cake. She shoved it in her mouth. "Mm," she said, her mouth full. She gave Charlotte two thumbs-up. "Yourmf cake ish good."
Charlotte laughed. "Happy birthday to me," she said, grinning.
