How to cheer up a nerd
Quick shoutout to Star-Wars-Dragons for the suggestion 💙sorry that it took a little longer than I originally thought, but please enjoy 😊
It had been a really long and stressful day in the little town of Gravity Falls, especially for the mystery shack. After a run in with a particularly unusual monster, a fire breathing bat to be exact (don't ask), the entire town was in shambles, and everyone had to work as an clean up crew to help repair everything. The mystery shack was hit especially hard, considering that it was the origin of the bats spawn as a result of an accidental summoning. While everyone had a part in the accident, with Mable practically begging her brother to summon a cute little bat, Grunkle Stan paying no attention to the kids, and Ford so busy that he didn't bother to ask why the twins needed to use his lab, Dipper mostly blamed himself for it because he was the one who was messed up the instructions.
During the big clean up, he decided to hide the journal under his bed, and to not take it back out for a while. He mostly kept his head down, feeling guilty for his what had happened. Mable took notice of her brothers quietness and became worried about him. Despite being the one to cheer him up in the past, she didn't know how to cheer him up now. Now was different.
She and him had made plenty of similar mistakes in the past, but she had no experience with the journals. She didn't have any relatable stories to share with him, or advice to give him about this. But she knew someone who did.
"Hey Grunkle Ford!" She exclaimed as she ran to him after the clean up was done. "Do you think you could help me with something?"
Ford looked down from the newspaper he was reading. "Of course, Mable," he said as he put away the newspaper. "What is it?"
"Have you noticed how Dippers been acting today? He feels really guilty about what happened, but I don't know if I can cheer him up. I don't have any advice I could give, but I know you have some experience with stuff like this, so could you please help cheer him up?"
Ford smiled at his niece. "Okay, I can help. But I need to know how you usually cheer him up."
"Well, I start off by trying to distract him for a little bit, just to get him feeling a little bit less grumpy. Then I try to make him laugh, that distracts him more! After all that we finally talk about what's bothering him and I try to give my best sisterly advice! But that's where I can't do anything now. Once everything is off his chest and he's feeling better, we go back to doing fun stuff, like games!"
A plan was already forming in Fords mind. "I think I have an idea."

"Ford," Dipper called as he entered the basement. "Mable said you wanted to see me." Despite having come down to the basement before, Dipper was feeling nervous. He thought that after what happened earlier, Ford was going to give him a scolding. He was preparing for a long lecture about being irresponsible.
To his surprise, as he entered Fords study, he saw that a game of dungeons, dungeons, and more dungeons was laid out on the floor, ready to play. Right next to the board, his Grunkle Ford was sitting down.
"Dipper!" He called. "I was wondering if you were up for a game right now."
"Um, a game?" Dipper said nervously. "I- I don't know."
"Aw come on!" Ford edged on. "It'll be fun!"
Still slightly surprised, Dipper decided to sit down at the board. Once he sat down, Ford started narrating. He had planed out the first dungeon, and gave Dipper the dice to role. He rolled seven, the exact number he needed to unlock the front door and enter the unknown room.
"You come across the first room of the mysterious dungeon," Ford narrated. "As you enter, you feel like someone, or something, is watching you. Suddenly, it appears! The tall beast stands before you, but in the light it's impossible to make out it's features. You must role an even number in order to escape, or else you will be captured. If you are captured, you must role an even number at some point to get away."
Dipped rolled the die, but got a three. He looked up to his Grunkle, eager to hear what comes next. Suddenly, Ford got up and started walking slowly to his nephew, his fingers making wiggling motions.
"As the monster comes into the light, you recognize it. A monster you've meet before. You suddenly realize that your face to face with..." he decided to pause for dramatic effect. "The tickle monster!"
Ford grabbed Dipper and started tickling his sides. Now fully aware of what was happening, Dipper started howling with laughter.
"Ah, Grunkle Ford! WHAIHIHIT!" He wasn't able to finish his statement. As Ford switched to under his arms, Dippers laughter amplified.
"You're going to have to role an even number to escape, Dipper." He stopped tickling Dipper long enough for him to role the die again.
"Oh come on!" He shouted, as the die revealed a five.
Ford smirked as he started twards Dipper again. "Despite your greatest efforts, you aren't able to escape. The tickle monster takes you again, this time flipping you upside down." As he said this he did exactly just that to Dipper, flipping him around and this time focusing on his stomach, another weak spot.
"Sstohohohp! I CAHAHANT DO IT!" Dipper was struggling to escape his Grunkles grasp, but he was unable to. He was stuck in a state of constant giggles as Fords fingers made a claw and was vibrating on his tummy.
"You have one more chance Dipper!" Ford exclaimed. "Role an even number and you'll be free!"
He let go of his nephew, and still panting, he grabbed the die and rolled. He eagerly watched the dice, waiting to see if he could escape his torment. He let out a shout of agony as the die once again rolled a seven.
"The tickle monster finally decides to up the ante," Ford narrated as he once again trapped Dipper. "Try as you might to prepare yourself, you can't be ready for his worst attack."
Ford once again flipped his nephew upside down, this time lifting up his shirt to get to his stomach.
"WHAIT! FORD NO!" Dipper begged. But he knew there would be no mercy for him.
"The tickle monster unleashes a bombard of raspberries!" Once he said this, Ford did exactly that, blowing small raspberries onto his stomach. Dipper was shrieking with laughter at this point, thrashing to get away from the unbearable sensations.
Ford finally let Dipper go, and as he was trying to catch his breath, Dipper had a realization.
"Wait a minute," he said. "Statistically speaking, by now I should have rolled an even number." He looked over to see his Grunkle trying to hide his grin.
"Grunkle Ford, is this die weighed? Don't make me get out the Chi Squared analysis chart to prove I'm right!"
Ford couldn't hold back his laughter anymore. "Alright, alright. I weighed the die so that it would only role odd numbers."
Dipper looked away, feeling slightly embarrassed and betrayed.
"I'm sorry Dipper," said Ford putting a hand on Dippers shoulder. "Mable wanted me to cheer you up and talk to you. She's been worried and wanted me to cheer you up the way she would."
Dipper looked back up, a bit more forgiving. "Well, now usual comes the part where she would give me some advice."
Ford smiled. "You think I haven't made mistakes with summoning things before? I was the one who summoned Bill. And I've accidentally summoned a rainbow throwing chipmunk."
Dipper snickered, imagining the events that took place after that. "How does a chipmunk throw rainbows?"
"Pftt, I don't know! But I don't want to see it ever again. The whole town was covered in the stuff, and let me tell you, it stains clothes."
The two laughed together at the thought.
"I'm still sorry Grunkle Ford," said Dipper."
"We all make mistakes. Just try not to summon anything again. Well, at least not without me!"
"Heh, alright. It's a deal!"
"Is this the part where we go back to playing the game?" Asked Ford. "I'll give you a real die this time."
Dipper smiled as he got back up and went over to the board. The two played their game for the rest of the day, and when they came back upstairs, Mable was happy to see that her brother had a smile back on his face.
"So you put Ford up to it?" Asked Dipper.
"Kind of," teased Mable. "I just gave him the usual outline of how to cheer you up, but the tickle monster was his idea."
Dipper's face flushed. "Don't think he won't unleash the tickle monster on you again."
"You got that right!" Ford said as he suddenly grabbed the twins. The two laughed as their Grunkle squeezed their sides. "But this time the tickle monster will have mercy."
He let them go, but the twins were anxiously waiting to see if the tickle monster would make an unexpected appearance again.
