| Chapter 1 : In the Beginning...

-

"Doctor Eunice, get back-up just in case this gets messy. Jones, monitor Experiment 872's reaction to their environment using the Earth simulation and write it down."

A tall and slender man walked through the halls of Chance Incorporated, one of the most well-known facilities in the state of Wyoming. His footsteps intimidated anyone around the area, all employees except one.

"Ah, there you are, Doctor Bens. I was expecting you to have gotten the file already, but it seems you failed at something as simple as that," The employee spoke with a feminine voice. "I apologize, my dear. My head was somewhere else at that time," Doctor Bens said as he walked with the employee.

"Yes, such a wild imaginative brain that doesn't follow orders. Hm. No matter, though. I will not allow failure to fall upon us. Not now.."

The voice pulled out a smaller file from her lab coat and observed it. The cover read, '[Y/N] [L/N] PROGRESS FILE'.

"Not ever."

(The [L/N] household, 7:45 PM)

-------------------------------------------------

The crash of glass plates filled the house as the yelling intensified. A middle schooler curled up in a corner, trying to drain this sound from their head. It sucks that they could hear it from their room.

This happened every night. The pre-teen groaned as they shoved a pillow on their face to somewhat ease the pain of their parents arguing to an extreme volume. It had nothing to do with family issues or financial problems the family may have, because it never did. They only manage to argue over things that don't matter, like if someone looked like they had an attitude or if someone breathed too heavily for whatever reason.

[Y/N] knows that their parents love them very much, but it's hard to think that way when they don't see how their child feels when they argue over something so minute (mī-ˈnüt | meaning small).

The student sighs and gets up from their corner of sadness. 'I have to sleep at some point, right?' They thought as they covered themselves with a blanket. 'I hope I don't have that dream again. Sure, space is pretty cool, but I don't want to fear for my life everytime I close my eyes.'

The argument decreased in volume and the world went dark. Finally, a sense of peace. No dreams whatsoever.

The next day, it seemed as if everything was back to normal. To be sure, [Y/N] proceeded to do their daily routine, which consists of:

-Shower

-Brushing Teeth

-Get dressed

They walked downstairs and smelled breakfast being made. 'I sure hope it's for me instead of dad. He always gets special treatment, even if he doesn't appreciate it sometimes.'

Turns out, it was indeed for [Y/N]. They raised an eyebrow at this, because things like that barely happened. "What's the occasion, mom? You never cook breakfast for me," They said as they enjoyed the food in front of them. "Nothing, really. After last night, your dad left and didn't come back earlier. Honestly, I'm glad he's gone. Such a loser with no living skills at all!" The woman took off her white apron and rested her shoulder on the kitchen counter. That explains it. This was only done to spite him if he comes back.

All of a sudden, [Y/N] lost their appetite. ‘I don’t want to eat anymore, but if I waste food, mom’s gonna be mad. I guess I’ll have to eat it.’ They quietly munch on the rest of the food and sit in silence. Nothing else had to be said, so what’s the point? The sound of keys jingling against each other can be heard outside. ‘I have to hurry. Dad’s home,’ They thought as they quickly put their bowl in the sink. “Bye mom, love you.” “I love you too, [Y/N]. Be good, okay?” “Okay.”

As soon as the door opened and their father walked in, before he could give [Y/N] a proper hello, they left. Before they went too far, their father yelled, “Have a good day, sport!” “You too!” They replied as they continued on their journey to school. Proud of escaping one of the worst situations they could be in, [Y/N] sighed in relief. ‘I’m glad that the school is only a few minutes away. Otherwise, I would have been late and in a bad mood, and I don’t have time for being in the middle of an argument that I didn’t even get myself into.’

(POV CHANGE : 1ST PERSON)

I walked the halls of the school (Which is in terrible condition, always have been) and met up with my friend, Gaz Membrane. “Dude, thank god you’re here. I need your help,” She said with a panicked but relieved look on her face. “Sure, what’s up?” I’m genuinely worried, because she wouldn’t be this frantic about something. “Some jerk stole my console! I tried to catch up to them myself, but too many people were in my way and I lost them! I swear, when I get my hands on that kid I’ll beat em’ like there’s no tomorrow and they’ll make it by the skin of their teeth,” Gaz paced back and forth.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a good chase, so of course I’ll help. Plus, she’s my friend. “Where did you last see them? Shouldn’t be too far from here, I mean, this is a small building.” “Somewhere near the 3rd row of lockers (If you can even call them that).”

That’s close to the stairs. “I figure we split up, even if it does sound like a dumb move. They could be upstairs right now, for all we know,” I explained. “Great. I’ll go upstairs so I can have instant access to that punk.” We ran off in different directions and searched. It was almost time for 1st period, so we had to be quick. I shoved any obstacles (including students) in my way and saw nothing. ‘Maybe if I just search more..’ Eventually, I traveled near the janitor’s closet and saw a dim, blue, light. I quietly walked to where it was coming from and observed the brat that held Gaz’s console. ‘Hm. It seems like he’s too invested in a game to notice me. If only I could scare him somehow…’ I rested my finger on a metal surface. I felt a shock fill my body with a pink-ish purple glow coming with it, but as quick as it came, it left without a trace. That seemed to startle the boy a bit, because the console shut off instantly.

I gazed in amazement and replayed the scene in my head. ‘I don’t know what that was, but that was so cool. I wish Gaz could have seen that.’ After having a short conversation with myself, I confronted that idiot and took back the small console. ‘Too easy.’

As I walked upstairs, I couldn’t help but wonder what caused that shock. I’ve never seen a pink/purple spark before, so why would it be here now? I shrugged and forgot about it for the time being.
