Them
We started going out more. And 2 months before the end, Mark took me on our first official date. It wasn't fancy or over-the-top, it was quiet, it was nice.
Until they came.
Sitting around 2 tables away from us, Jack and Marzia sat. Mark didn't notice until a bit later, but looked up from his menu when I whispered to him. I didn't know why they were there, or even if they were dating. All I knew is that they were there. And they weren't showing any signs of leaving any time soon.
"Mark!" I whispered across the table, nudging my head to the left of us.
"Hm?" Mark looked up, and noticed them. He looked back down at his menu and whispered.
"It's probably just a coincidence."
"Seriously? Jack? Marzia? The two people that hate us? Maybe they're in a cult of Pewdieplier haters or something. Maybe there's more."
"Felix, your imagination is getting the better of you." Mark smiled and looked up. I smiled back, and mouthed "I love you." to him.
I was able to ignore it most of the night, we talked about a lot of things, our careers, meaningless thing, memories, until we'd finished our main course. We then decided to head out for dessert.
Apparently they decided to as well.
I stepped out into the cool, summer night, and Mark followed behind me.
"Well, well, well, look who it is. The happy couple!" A voice sneered from my left. Looking over and realising it was Jack, I then replied,
"What are you doing here?"
"I should be asking you two the same thing."
"I was having a night out with my boyfriend." Mark stepped in.
"I was doing the same." Marzia said from behind Jack, glaring at Felix.
"You." Jack pointed an accusing finger at me, looking me right in the eyes, "You stole him from me."
"Jack, you-"
"Don't tell me what I did. We were, are in love. But you couldn't live with that, could you?"
"I-"
"I could've been happy!" Jack lunged at me, his fist grabbing out and hitting me in the shoulder and the jaw. Hit by the impact, I was knocked over in the process. Mark crouched down to me, with worry in his eyes, while Marzia held Jack back.
"Jack! Stop it! Just leave it!"
Mark was looking to be worried sick about me.
"Felix! Baby! Are you hurt? Are you okay? Are you bleeding?"
"Mark, I'm fine, really."
"Look what you've done!"
"Mark," Jack said, looking heartbroken, "I didn't mean to hurt you!"
"Just leave!" Mark waved out a hand, and with that, Marzia grabbed Jack's hand and they ran. He pulled me up by the hand.
"Felix, show me." He turned my head to the front, "You are bleeding! Right there on your lip. We'll have to get that fixed up. C'mon, let's grab a cab and let's go home."
"Okay."
Once we got home, he lifted me out of the cab and carried me all the way through the front door and into the bathroom.
"Mark! Stop it! I'm fine!" I squirmed in his arms as he opened the bathroom door and plopped me up on the counter so I was sitting.
"No, you are not fine! You are bleeding from the mouth, and that is a clear sign of you not being fine. Even the tiniest scratch on you is not fine!"
"Geez, Mark, you and your weird thing with injuries."
"Not all injuries, just yours."
I looked down and smiled, he could be such a charmer sometimes.
"Now, let's fix up this lip of yours!" Mark grabbed a cotton bud from the bench and slowly wiped my lip, he held it down for a few seconds then took it off.
"There! All better!"
"Not quite, just one more thing." I said, grabbing his collar and pulling his month onto mine for a sweet kiss.
"There! Good as new!" I smiled at Mark, and he smiled back.
"Now! Ice cream?"
"You bet!"
I found him, sitting up in bed at 1am.
"Mark, honey, are you alright."
"I'm so sorry Felix."
"Why are you sorry?"
"I'm the worst boyfriend ever."
"No you're not!"
"I made you get hurt, it's my fault you got hurt!"
"Mark, it's not your fault, you couldn't control what Jack was going to do."
"Yes, but I'm the reason that he did what he did. I'm sorry. You should hate me."
"Mark, don't say you're sorry again. It's not your fault. And don't ever say that you're the worst boyfriend ever. You're the best!"
"The best of the worst."
"The best boyfriend I've ever had."
"I'm your first boyfriend, though."
"And I'm glad that you are my first boyfriend."
"Why? Why me?"
"Because I love you."
"You can't love me. Not you. You're amazing."
"I can love whoever I want to, mind you, and I love you. So suck it up, princess. You're going to have to deal with that."
"I want to deal with it."
"You better."
And he pulled me into a soft, slow kiss.
I'm glad that you're my first boyfriend, and I secretly hope you're my last.
"Who's on top?" Vatten said through his clenched teeth.
"I'm sorry, sir, but Felix and Mark are still in first position." Sandra replied, hoping that her boss would not be too mad.
"Still?! We have less than two months to go, yet they are still on top!? We'll have to do something!"
"Sir, can't you just let them win?"
"Let them win? Let them win?! No! I can't just let them win! We have to make it shocking, to teach everyone a lesson!"
"Sir, they look happy."
Sandra projected a frame from their latest vlog together. They were sitting on the couch, both laughing and smiling.
"Yes, Sandra, but things aren't always as they seem. They probably hate each other right now!"
"But what if they are happy?"
"So what? They'll have to deal with the consequences."
"That's not fair!"
"Sandra, life's not fair."
