hope's twin

so i obviously tackled this on the 'siblings' chapter, but i'll keep individually adding more of these until the sight of them throughout wattpad doesn't make me nauseous

we've already talked about this, you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE HOPE A TWIN

honestly, those fics are the worst thing to happen since elena twins

Hope is a one-time-only character, you can't just carbon copy her.

You also can't make your OC the 'forgotten' twin, like wtf? The Mikaelson's would never do that.

Above is a video edit of Kol Mikaelson made by the youtuber 'daddynegan' and it's a great effing example of this. Kol often felt unloved or not part of the strong trio that Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah formed, kind of how all the authors are unrealistically making Hope's twin sad and forgotten. But, Klaus says the line "But stop this drivel about being singled out and unloved, you are a Mikaelson! You're my blood!" Which is exactly what I would say to writers writing Hope's twin incorrectly, "She's their daughter, she's a Mikaelson, she's their blood and she wouldn't be singled out or unloved."

They only hate and despise each other because of the fact that they've lived with each other for so long. They thought Freya was dead, that's why they never discussed her or Henrik.

But they would never reject an innocent member of their family like a friggin innocent baby.

That's bad characterization, now if you've done this, you're punishment is to rewatch the entirety of the Originals (or just until season 3) so you can fully understand once again the Mikaelson family because apparently in those fics you've all been writing them as two-dimensional people.

They wouldn't care if your OC isn't as pretty as Hope or isn't as smart as her or even as powerful, they would still love her (cuz it's always a female OC). Just because Hope is the firstborn doesn't mean they love her more. I don't care if your story isn't canon with the season or whatever, but I do care that you write characters correctly.

Definition of fan fiction is:

Fan fiction or fanfiction (also abbreviated to fan fic, fanfic, fic or ff) is a type of fictional text written by fans of any work of fiction where the author uses established characters, settings, and/or other intellectual properties from an original creator as a basis for their writing.

so, The Originals is the basis for your writing,  you can put your OC, your plot, anything that you wanna add, go ahead. But that doesn't mean you can change the way an established character is already written. That would be as though you're claiming them as your own because you're changing who they are or their decisions.

Klaus Mikaelson would never treat a daughter of his as though she is worthless or not as important as her other siblings because that was how he was treated.

Hayley got pushed to the side by her own adoptive parents when she first turned into a werewolf at thirteen-years-old, so she wouldn't just praise one of her kids and ignore how the other feels. Yes, they can screw up as parents, but the one thing they haven't gotten wrong is how much they love their daughter.

Onto the more stupid of the things that I hate on Hope twins.

They get named Faith.

What- why? Why at all?

The meaning behind Hope's name is because the Mikaelson family has been in this constant state of hopelessness that Elijah believed that this baby could be a chance of redemption for his brother and in turn could be a chance for their family to mend themselves. He believed this baby was his family's one hope.

When the baby is born and they can't decide what to name her, Klaus tells Hayley what Elijah said about their daughter when they all learned of her existence, that she could be the hope to mend their family. And boom, they've got the perfect name.

So seeing her twin named Faith simply because it's a common trope for twins to be called Hope and Faith is honestly insulting.

The name 'Faith' has no real emotional meaning to the Mikaelsons, not like the name 'Hope'.

They haven't had hope in a long time, in Elijah's case he sees this baby as the hope for his family, and I'll keep repeating it until it goes through your thick brains, so they are in need of hope, and this baby brought it to them, only fitting to name her that. Hope that they can become better people, that they aren't complete monsters, that they still have some form of humanity intact. It's their last chance for the Mikaelson name to stand for something good.

But naming her twin sister Faith? It doesn't have anything to do with the Mikaelson redemption trope. Faith means trust, unquestionable trust, and even after Hope's 15, the Mikaelsons still don't have fully trust one another. Especially after Elijah's compulsion period in S5.

So, honestly, the name Faith doesn't hold as much meaning as the name Hope does to the family. The family has trusted and betrayed each other countless times, honestly, faith and trust is a long shot for them, that at one point they no longer care about trust because they know that at the end of the day, family is most important. They can steal from each other, they can kill each other, they can even run away from each other, but there isn't something they wouldn't do for each other, especially for that little girl. So, while they have betrayed a lot, they still care about the family, that won't ever go away so the name Faith isn't something fitting for Klaus and Hayley's child.

See, that's why it's so difficult to pick a name for a Hope twin, because then it'd be the babies that bring hope to their family, and just naming one twin Hope would be like telling the other one that they don't mean as much as her and that isn't something her parents or the rest of her family would do. SO DON'T EVEN THINK OF DOING THAT.

I don't even wanna give you pointers because I want these to stop, but because you won't then let me at least give you a guide.

- Instead of being basic and calling your fem!OC Faith and getting roasted by me, try this:

I went online and found the Old Norse word for 'hope' since Klaus and his family comes from Vikings. I got the word 'Vætta' which can be written as Vaetta and pronounced as 'Va-i-ta'. If you google it now you'll get the Icelandic translation, you need to google for the Old Norse one, remember that no one uses Old Norse anymore so it won't show up if you just put the name.

This is what I would personally say to be both a creative name and meaningful. She and Hope's name literally means the same thing only Hope's is in English and hers is in Old Norse. So while that's like perceived to be weird like their parents naming them the same thing, it also derives from both their routes, their mom is American while their father is from Vikings.

But again, it would be really tacky to name their kids the same exact name, so now I instruct you to ignore that.

It's like naming one kid Sky and another Cielo (Spanish for sky).
It's the same name in different translations.
So, just don't do that.

Or naming one kid Belle and the other one Bella. Essentially the same name but with a twist. It's incredibly tacky.

This is just another example as to why Hope's name only works for Hope.

(And how she should be the only Mikaelson baby around for decades until she has a kid herself)

Now, if you went a bit more unique and went with a male twin, then, hello, is this even a question? Name him Henrik after Klaus' brother. The one that died at the hands of werewolves while out with Klaus who probably never got over the guilt of that happening.

There, ya done.

but, the true cherry on top, the biggest piece of advice i can give you is this:

DONT WRITE ANYMORE HOPE TWIN FICS.

THEY'RE ALL WRONG AND SADLY THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE ELENA TWIN FICS.

do you really want that to happen?

don't start this trope.
please don't
