GILBERTS ARE EVERYWHERE

I have gotten to the point where I have to reread fanfics because all the fanfics out there are all about a Gilbert sister and I despise those to no end.

the thing about the gilbert sibling fics, it'll be extra difficult if you go down that road because so many people will see that opening line:

And the first half of the book she's this depressed character (again, a copy of elena)

until she meets a cute boy with an interesting last name and an immortality complex and a thirst for blood and she's magically fixed to be happy.

and so the readers are gonna be like,

No matter how different you wanna make it, you can't, because at the end they'll all just get categorized in the same box: Gilbert Sibling fics

Now, there are some exceptions, like the Cat story Sciamachy that I've mentioned before. This is the only good Gilbert Twin fic that I've enjoyed in a long time and honestly, I don't think I'm overreacting when stating that all the other Gilbert Siblings fics should delete themselves and just let this one be the one solid Gilbert fic on Wattpad.

And if you wanna get technical, if you write a Gilbert fic where your love interest is a Salvatore or a Mikaelson, and judging on the 83% of fics out there, those are the two most likely.

- Doing a Stefan fic is basically copy-pasting the script and adding your OC and then she feels bad because she's in love with Stefan and then they end up together but now Elena hates her.

- A Damon fic? Half of Damon fics with a Gilbert start out with the Gilbert having a thing for Stefan and then realizing it's Damon that they love and I hate those, give Damon his own fucking book cowards. The other half shouldn't work because you need to write this stuff correctly. A Gilbert sibling is human, so they wouldn't be used to the monstrous and violent Damon ways, they wouldn't find it attractive, they'd be scared. At least at first, by two seasons down the line then they have believably grown into Damon's ways.

- A Klaus fic wouldn't work at all bECAUSE OF A NOT-SO-LITTLE RITUALISTIC SACRIFICE NAMED AUNT JENNA. No Gilbert would ever be with Klaus after he killed their aunt. Just, no.

- An Elijah fic can be difficult because Elijah, like the rest of his siblings, is a difficult person to write. You need someone that can reach the same maturity that Elijah displays. As well as his ability to look at the bigger picture. Also, can you really see Elijah dating a teenager? It's gross and weird. Also, again, a Gilbert fic with Elijah, the OC would NOT be friends with Klaus because, again, JENNA.

- Kol fic. He tried to kill Matt, Damon, Elena, cut Jeremy's arm off and more. The only one that made it work was in Sciamachy.

Why? Cuz Cat  thought of everything, including the Jenna dilemma, she managed to loophole something in there as precise and elegant as Elijah Mikaelson in his best suit. That doesn't mean you can go poking in her book to steal the Jenna outcome. Not cool guys.

- For Rebekah, don't be a coward and go write one now. So that I can finally write about how it still wouldn't be the greatest idea since Bex tried to kill Elena. Numerous times. She actively despises Elena for literally stabbing her in the back, so I say she has a good reason. In the matter of Rebekah vs. Elena, Rebekah has the sympathies. Even if I personally like her better than Elena over here, she actually does have a reason for wanting to kill Elena that I can understand, plus her vampire enhanced emotions make her see her betrayal towards her 100x worse than if she were human.

Now, about making a Gilbert sibling into something not human.

- another doppelgänger: really guys? you wanna go so far down the rabbit hole with a gilbert twin sister? why don't you just title it 'Keep Going, Nothing New or Creative Here' (i don't mean any offense to you Cat, this is aimed at all the others)

- a werewolf/coyote: this mainly happens if you decided to pick one of the top three overused face claims, Shelley Hennig. And honestly, this only makes sense if she were adopted. This means that you decided to steal Elena's subplot in the first season on finding out she was adopted. If you wanna do a werewolf fic in the TVD Universe, go do one, they don't have to be related to the Gilberts. Also, try to refrain from using Shelley Hennig, yes, she's a brilliant actress but the majority of the time you guys pick her is because coyote. Try and be diverse, the most used face claims on this app are white girls, gods, go look at a 2019 Macy's catalog, they're more diverse than 83% of TVD fics.

- a witch/Wiccan/anything that can produce magic basically: just because Elena's ancestry can be tracked down to travelers thanks to Katherine's storyline in S5 doesn't make it original or something that's 'never been done before'

don't you just get tired of the abundance of gilbert fics?

Honestly, the only way for it to work with a Mikaelson would be if Elena and Jeremy basically gave the OC no choice but to choose the Originals, and that takes dedication and difficulty to write. Again, Sciamachy is a great example of this.

But that doesn't mean you get to go read it and make your own gilbert sibling fic or fix the one you already have and probably haven't updated in a while. I'm giving you this book over and over again because it's written well, it's got an actual plot, it doesn't shit on the OC's mental health. The author is aware of how to write her OC around these characters. But just because there's a good version of it, doesn't mean you should try again with this troupe, end the gilbert trope, just end it.

And in my opinion, it's the only acceptable gilbert twin fic out there. The others are just bullshit.

I just realized half of this chapter is praising that book, and I am not sorry.

just, every single idea you may have that involves creating a gilbert sibling; or any sibling to an existing character is not a great start
