Chapter 19
Mean's POV
When I saw Plan grabbing his car key, I ran towards the door and barred him from leaving.
"Get out of my way," said Plan.
"You're not leaving," I said, "don't forget that there's a clause in the contract we signed that says we're not allowed to bring alcohol into our unit."
"I'm not planning to buy any alcoholic drinks to bring in here," said Plan.
"Then you are planning to get drunk somewhere," I said, "if anybody sees you coming back here all drunk, you could get in serious trouble with P'New and the producers. P'Plan, do not ruin your career over a "two-timing bitch". Those were your own words."
I grabbed his wrist and sat him down on the couch.
"How did you even know that she was two-timing you?" I asked.
"The stupid bitch posted photos of her and her co-teacher in a very questionable pose inside a pub," he replied, "I saw them just a few minutes ago on my laptop."
"Co-teacher?" I didn't mean to ask for more information about his girlfriend but I realized that I already got my foot stuck in the mud.
"She teaches Thai in an international language school in London," he replied.
"How did you meet her?" Shit, why was I getting more and more interested in his private life?
"Her mom and my mom are friends. Her mom brought her to my mom's birthday party last year. Her mom is Thai and her father is an Englishman who does business here," he explained.
"That explains her foreign name," I said.
He stood up to go.
I grabbed my car key.
"I'm hungry," I said, "why don't we have lunch somewhere. I don't want to cook one of my quick fix lunches."
"You don't know how to cook, period," he said.
"Whatever," I said, "just have lunch with me, My treat."
"Fine," he said. Then after a pause, "Thank you, Mean, I appreciate what you're doing for me."
"I expect you to do the same for me when my girlfriend breaks up with me," I said.
His eyes widened. "You have a girlfriend?"
I rolled my eyes. "I wish" I said.
"Debbie," he offered.
"Not my type," I said.
When we stopped by the reception desk to drop off our electronic key cards, Debbie smiled at Plan, batting her false long eyelashes at him.
Plan did not respond in kind. He clearly was not in the mood to flirt with her today.
Plan and I made our way to the parking lot.
"You got a cool car," he said as he buckled his seat belt.
"It's not as new as yours," I said.
"But it's bigger and more spacious," he said.
I just shrugged.
"Did you have any place in mind?" I asked after I started the engine.
"I don't really care," he said, "I will go with whatever is your choice."
"Let's go to the nearby mall food court and see what they have to offer," I suggested.
"Fine with me," he replied.
At the food court, there were choices of Japanese, Thai, Italian, Mediterranean, American, French, Chinese, Indian and Korean food stalls to choose from.
I turned to Plan. "Do you still want me to choose?" I asked.
I noticed him looking at the Italian booth.
"I'm in the mood for pasta," I said, grabbing his wrist, "let's go."
He willingly let me lead him by the hand.
"What are these green noodles?" he asked the server behind the counter.
"Those are spinach spaghetti noodles," the guy replied.
"I'd like to order that," said Plan.
"Did you want meatballs on top?" the server asked him.
"Yes, please," Plan replied.
"Any drinks?" the server asked.
"Scotch on the rocks," replied Plan.
"We don't..."
"I know, I know, I was just kidding," said Plan, "just give me a Coke, please, with a dash of rum."
The server hesitated.
"I was kidding about the rum," said Plan.
At least, if he was kidding around, that meant he was in a lighter mood.
The server turned to me.
"I'm having the exact same order as his," I said.
After lunch, I asked him if he wanted to go anywhere else.
"Let's stop by that gas station across the street," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"I'll tell you when we get there," he said.
He handed his card to the gas station cashier. "Please fill the tank."
"What are you up to?" I asked Plan.
"Up to no good," he replied.
"No, seriously," I said.
"Let's drive to the nearest beach and hang out there," he said.
"That could be a good two hours away," I said.
"That is why I filled the tank," he replied.
My GPS guided us to the nearest beach which looked totally lonely and deserted.
Before we stepped out of the car, Plan turned to me.
"During the drive here, I realized it was really just my pride that got hurt, I don't think I ever really loved her."
I flicked him on his forehead. "You got me really worried for a while," I said, before getting out of the car.
"Race you to the water!" I shouted, running as fast as I could.
"Not fair!" he protested, "your legs are longer than mine!"
