A Memory
"What am I going to do with you, Riri?"
~
Where am I?
The sun is bright and hazy like it is in the summer. There's a beautiful, green field in front of me and as I turned around there's a road that lead to trees that branched lazily overhead. In the distance there were three figures that seemed to be playing in the lush grass.
This place seems familiar. Though, I can't put my finger on it.
I walk towards the figures to ask them were the heck I was.
Last time I checked there were no open fields just lying around New York City. Well, there was Central Park, but you could still see the mind boggling skyscrapers around you.
Out here, there wasn't even a cloud in the sky.
I'm almost to the three, they look like preteens, when I realize something. I don't know where Razor is.
Whatever, he can look out for himself.
I come up to the kids, about to ask my question when I stop mid breath.
Oh......I know where I am now.
"Don't you just love this, Ray? The summer sun is amazing!"
The only girl in the group exclaimed this. She wore a yellow and white plaid dress with a blue collar and her hair was done up in a 1950's style. She held a open, happy expression on her face.
Wow...for a twelve year old I had style.
I'm standing right in front of them, yet they haven't noticed me.
This has to be a dream or something, right?
"Yeah, and being out of school is always a plus."
God, Razor looks so CUTE! He had on a pair of jeans with a short sleeved white shirt tucked in. His hair was all combed back too. How did this kid turn into such a tactless a-hole as an adult? I mean really.
"Riri, stop playing around. You're going to get grass stains on your new dress and then Ma will yell at you."
...I haven't seen that face in such a long time I've nearly forgotten it.
Last time I saw him he had a whole were his stomach should have been and was gasping for air in my arms. I can still remember the moment when I saw the life leave his beautiful almond colored eyes.
"Just because you're a year older than me doesn't make you the boss!"
The little girl stuck her tongue out at her brother who was looming over her sitting figure.
"Just remember I warned you!"
The brother then started chasing the two younger kids around the opening, laughter and giggles trailing behind the moving figures.
My brother Rif was something else. If only I could come back to this time. When things were nice and innocent.
Then again...I really wouldn't belong in this picture after everything I've seen.
~
I woke to the sound of a car's breaks squealing.
It scared me so much that I hit the ceiling with a thud.
"Mother-flipper!"
"Glad your awake, boss lady. Now please, don't distract the driver."
I look to my left to see Razor, driving the truck with a slightly smug smirk on his face.
I ignored the dull ping of pain I inflicted and stared daggers into Razor.
"Ha ha, very funny."
"Uh! You wound me so."
I reframed from punching him in the face. Beating up the person who's supposed to help you wouldn't be the best option to take here.
"Where are we going, Razor?"
His eyes flickered to mine before they went back to the road.
"Here's a hint: it's in Georgia."
I could only think of one place once he said those words.
...
I have a bad feeling about this.
