Chapter 5 - Giving Her A Name
Menma's POV
Reluctantly, I decided to let the young fox girl stay with me, seeing how she didn't have anywhere to go. I thought it would be bothersome to watch over a child, but to my surprise, it was fairly easy. I really didn't have to do much.
All the child did was just sit there and do nothing. I had her dressed in an orange kimono because her clothes were soaked and dirty. There was one thing I noticed about her, and that was her height and appearance.
Just yesterday, she was as tall as a toddler. Now today, she's as about as a tall as a 12-year-old.
Just what is she? "Hey,"
"Hmm?" She looked at me as her tail swayed. "How old are you?" I asked. "Hmm... I'm 9. At least I think I am. I don't know, okay?" She answered. I raised a brow at her, confused with her answer. 'She doesn't know her own age? Almost shocking.' I thought.
"Judging by your silence, I'm assuming you're confused to what I mean." She said. "A little." I admitted. "Well... Let's see. How should I put this?" She tapped her chin before explaining.
"Well, you see, I'm able to grow up and mature a lot faster than humans. However, the aging process takes a bit longer than the growing process. Weird, isn't it?" The fox said. "Quite the opposite. I find it interesting, actually." I admitted.
"You'd be the first to find me interesting." She said before drawing her finger along the carpet. "Where did you come from, anyway?" I asked.
"The Leaf Village."
"The Leaf Village?"
"Yeah, and I hate everyone in that damn place."
"Why?"
"Because of the humans. I hate every single one of them."
"And why is that?"
"Because I do."
"That's not an answer. Give me an explanation."
"I hate humans because they're stupid, ignorant, selfish, judgemental, and I just wish all of them would go die!"
I stared at her as she fell face first into the carpet and sighed. "Sounds like you have some history with these humans. Why don't you tell me about your past?" I suggested. "I'm not that good at details, so I'll give you the short version," The girl sat up and faced me.
"I never knew my parents, so I was adopted by some humans. My adopted mother cheated on my adopted father and ended us leaving us for the man she cheated off my father with. This caused my father depression and took out most of his anger out on me. I really hated how he yelled at me when I tried to comfort him, so I decided to give him some space. But Dad's suffering seemed to come to an end when he committed suicide. ANBU Black Ops found me next to my dead father and assumed I was the one who killed him because my hands were covered in his blood while my fingerprints were on the knife my father stabbed himself with. They began keeping tabs on me everywhere I went. I tried making friends with the one person who didn't have any friends and he ended up rejecting me because I was a fox. I can't go outside my house without being insulted or having stuff thrown at me. That's why I hate humans. The end."
'Not good at details, huh?' I thought with a sweat drop. "The boy that rejected you. What's his name?" I asked.
"Naruto Uzumaki. He's eight years old and I wanted to be his friend because I thought we had something in commom; being rejected. But it turns out, he's just like the rest of the humans in that village. And the damn Hokage doesn't do a damn thing when I get abused. It's as if he wants the village to hurt me." The fox girl complained.
"He?" I repeated. "Yeah, he. Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage." She said. "You're mistaken. The Hokage's been dead for three years." I informed. "That's impossible. I just saw him a few months ago. He's alive." She argued.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi died protecting the village against the attack of Orochimaru. The new protector of the village is Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage." I argued. "No way... Are you serious?" She asked. "Yes." I nodded my head.
"But... I don't understand." The fox girl murmured. I could tell she was confused, and so was I. How could she not know about the attack? Unless... she's not from this world.
"Fox Girl, there's a reason why you believe none of this has happened. It's because you've entered another world." I said. "Another world?" She repeated. "Yes," I nodded. "You must've entered a paradox. Seven years into the future to be exact. I don't know how, but that seems-"
"The river!" She interrupted me. "River?" I repeated. "Before you found me, I fell into a river! That must be how I entered this reverse world by mistake!" She said. "You're too loud. Lower your voice." I commanded.
"Sorry." She apologized. "Although, you could be right. I'm not sure how it was possible for you to enter this world, but that seems to be the case." I said. "Is there anyway to get back?" Fox Girl asked.
"I honestly doubt it unless you can find the same river you entered through."
"But I didn't intend to enter this world. I was being chased by the ANBU Black Ops and I accidentally fell into the river."
"Hmm... I'm going to be blunt with you. It's safe to say that you're stuck here until you can find your way back to your world."
"Oh..."
She sounded disappointed. I almost felt bad that she wasn't able to return to her world. Poor creature...
"In the meantime, you can continue to live here with me." I proposed. "Really? You would do that?" The fox girl asked.
"However, there are going to be some rules that you'll have to follow. If you have any problems with my rules, I'll throw you out and have you live out there in the woods without a second thought. Are we clear?" I asked.
"Yes, I understand." She mumbled with a small frown, displeased with the fact there were rules. "Good." I said, laying back in my chair. I realized the whole the time we were talking, she never told me her name. "Who are you?" I asked.
"Who am I?" The fox girl repeated. "What's your name?" I rephrased. "Oh. Well... I don't have a name." She said, sounding ashamed. "Why is that?" I asked.
"My adoptive parents spent so much time yelling and avoiding each other, not once did they ever say my name. Therefore, I never knew it. Pretty lame, huh?" She said. 'A little.' I thought. "Then, I'll give you a name." I offered.
"You will?" She asked, in which I nodded. "I'll call you..." I looked at her ears as they twitched a little. "Kitsune." I said. "Kitsune?" She repeated. "You're a fox, so it fits perfect." I stated. "Oh, I get it. Thank you so much." Kitsune smiled.
"For naming you?" I asked. "Yeah. I like it a lot, so thank you." Her smile grew bigger as her tail wagged happily. "Just don't cause me any trouble." I said. "You won't get any trouble from me. I promise. Oh, What's your name, by the way?" Kistune asked.
"My name is Menma."
"Don't you have a last name?"
"Yes, but I don't need to tell you what it is. All you need to know is my first name and that's that."
"Right, sorry." Kitsune pouted.
