Chapter Twenty-One

"You didn't have to offer your hand
'Cause since I've kissed it I am at your command
But you did

Oh, Turpentine erase me whole
I don't want to live my life alone
I was waiting for you all my life"

Taehyung walked alongside Yoongi, an awkward distance between them. The two had never hung out together without Jungkook's presence. They had barely said a word since departing Yoongi's apartment twenty minutes ago. Taehyung had begged on his hands and knees for the older to come with him to pick up the gift he had purchased for Jungkook's birthday. He had spent months searching for the right thing to give his fiancè.

The door chimed as they walked into the expensive jewelry store. The smell of metals and polish filled their noses, along with soft hints of roses. A man in a crisp black suit walked up to the two males with a smile plastered on his face. "What can I help you two find today?"

"I had a custom bracelet made that I'm here to pick up. The name is Kim Taehyung."

The man's smile grew even bigger, if possible, before excusing himself to go find the order. Yoongi was leaning against the glass cases, looking at some necklaces with a glint to his eyes. "What are you looking at, Yoongs?"

"First off, don't call me that." Yoongi's expression softened when he saw a pout on Taehyung's face. The older sighed before turning back toward the jewelry case. "Hoseok and I have an anniversary soon so I was just taking a look to see if anything stuck out."

Taehyung's pout turned into a wide smile. "You two are so damn cute."

The employee cleared his throat as he slid a clean black box on the counter. He nodded for Taehyung to open it. Taehyung's eyes glistened as he looked at the object inside. His eyes drifted to Yoongi's. "What do you think?"

Yoongi shrugged. "It just seems like a bunch of beads on a string to me."

Taehyung scoffed before rolling his eyes. He explained the meaning behind the bracelet to his fiancè's best friend.

Yoongi smirked a little at that. "Now that, Kim Taehyung, is an excellent gift. He'll love it."

"Really?"

Yoongi patted the younger's head. "Really."

Taehyung stiffened when he felt eyes on him. It had become an instinct he had picked up in high school. He always felt like he was being watched. He hadn't had the feeling in a long time, but now it was back, and it made Taehyung freeze.

"Is something wrong, sir?" The employee spoke while handing Taehyung the receipt of payment.

Taehyung shook his head and forced a smile. "Everything is fine."

The couple sat in a comfortable silence while eating their steak dinner. Taehyung decided to take them out to eat for the younger's birthday, despite Jungkook's protests. Taehyung cut another piece of his steak and plopped it in his mouth, rolling his eyes at the explosion of flavor. "God, this steak is freaking delicious."

Jungkook laughed while stuffing another bite in his mouth. "You have said that after every bite you've taken, Tae."

Taehyung blushed before pressing his lips together. He wiped his hands on the napkin on his lap.

Jungkook reached a hand across the table, requesting for Taehyung to hold it. The older accepted, and Jungkook smiled before gently kissing the back of Taehyung's hand. "You seem tense, baby. What's wrong?"

Taehyung shook his head, forcing another smile. He had been forcing a lot of smiles lately. "Nothing really. I think I am just nervous to give you your gift."

Jungkook's eyes sparkled. "Why don't you tell me what it is so you don't have to feel so nervous, hmm?"

Taehyung giggled, this time not even having to force it out of his small body. "Jeon Jungkook, you sly bastard."

Jungkook's smile grew wider. "Damn, you caught me red-handed. What are you going to do? Arrest me?"

Taehyung choked on the steak in his mouth. Jungkook handed him his glass of water with a seductive smirk on his face. "Jungkook! We are eating and we are in public! Bad dog!" Taehyung smacked Jungkook's head playfully, earning a few weird looks from the customers at other tables.

"If anyone is a bad dog, it's Yeontan. That damn dog chewed up my left slipper and then peed on my right."

Taehyung leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "Yeontan is an excellent dog. Maybe I paid him to pee on your shoe, and he was being a good dog by following my orders!"

"Okay, baby. Whatever you say. No more paying him to pee or chew on my things, got it?"

Taehyung giggled again at Jungkook. He was grateful for the other even more, as he had obviously gone out of his way to cheer Taehyung up, despite not knowing what was bothering him.

They walked hand in hand back to their shared apartment. The night sky glistened above them. There was a slight chill to the air as it was now September, but Jungkook provided all of the warmth that Taehyung needed just by his presence.

They entered the apartment, Taehyung immediately escaped to their bedroom to grab Jungkook's gift. He couldn't contain his excitement or nerves anymore. He had placed a red bow around the black box, red being of the younger's favorite colors.

"Jungkookieeee." Taehyung cooed as his boyfriend was undoing the tie around his neck in the kitchen.

Jungkook raised an eyebrow before seeing the small box Taehyung pulled from behind his back. He immediately smiled before taking the small box in his hands. "I am exploding with excitement at what it could be," Jungkook joked.

"Yah! Open the damn gift if you're so excited." Jungkook chuckled before carefully untying the ribbon. Taehyung wrapped his arms around Jungkook's waist from behind, letting his chin rest on the younger's muscular shoulders.

Jungkook's smile took over almost half his face when he took the lid off and revealed the bracelet. Jungkook carefully lifted it to inspect it closer. "What does it mean?"

Taehyung smiled before explaining. "It means 'I love you' in Morse Code. And then if you look on the inside of the band," Taehyung pointed with his index finger at the engraved date. "That is the day of the carnival where we shared our first kiss."

The bracelet, except imagine it with a metal band with their date engraved on it.

Jungkook, to Taehyung's surprise, had tears in his eyes. He turned around quickly in the other's arms and asked for help putting it on. Taehyung's cold skin still continued to send shocks through Jungkook's body, even after all this time.

"There," Taehyung whispered before looking at Jungkook with his infamous box-shaped smile that melted Jungkook's heart every time.

Jungkook hugged the older tight, never wanting to let him go. "I love it, baby. Thank you so much. You made this the best birthday I've ever had."

Taehyung pulled back slightly, an eyebrow raised. "All I did was buy you steak and a bracelet. That can't be the best you've ever had."

Jungkook smiled before placing a long, passionate kiss on Taehyung's lips. It wasn't meant to lead them to the bedroom, it was intended to show Taehyung every ounce of love Jungkook had for him, and the same with Taehyung. "It was the best birthday ever because you were here. You are all I will ever need in my life, Taehyungie."

Taehyung blushed, looking down at his feet, before meeting Jungkook's loving gaze. "You mean me and Yeontan."

Jungkook rolled his eyes before wrapping his arms around Taehyung's neck to embrace him once more. "Yes, I mean you and Yeontan, despite him peeing on my slipper."

They stood there in each other's arms for a long time, neither one wanting to break it off. They kept each other warm. The smiles still remained plastered on their faces to the point where their cheeks began to hurt, but that didn't stop them from continuing. Jungkook finally turned his head to leave a gentle kiss on Taehyung's hairline. "You are my paradise, Kim Taehyung."
