Justin’s POV

I ran up to catch Evianna when she practically ran off the stage. Just thinking of her made my chest tighten but what can I do? She pushed her sister down the portal. I caught up to her and there was a man next to her and then he disappeared.

‘Evianna, what are you doing here?’ I asked and she looked blank

‘Leaving, ‘she said and started walking away.

‘Wait,’ I said touching her shoulder and she flinched but something felt off about her.

‘Don’t touch me! Haven’t I had enough damage?’ she asked but it didn’t sound like her.

‘I don’t need you so leave me the hell alone.’ she seethed and began walking away. She left me stunned but I noticed a tear go down her cheek. There is definitely something off about Evianna but what? She wouldn’t change the song for nothing. There is a meaning and I have to find it.

Even after all she’s done I still can’t help but love her.

Chapter 23

The first of three Part One: A Sabor Horffin

Leah’s POV

We were looking through books to figure out where the prophecy was. Justin slammed through the door and he looked like he saw a ghost. Lucy rushed to him and he leaned on the door.

‘Justin, what’s wrong?’ we asked him and he looked at me.

‘Leah I need to talk to you.’ He said and Jake sighed.

‘Come on people.’ He said motioning Lucy and Nico to leave the room.

‘What happened Justin?’ I asked and he started pacing.

‘Something’s not right with Evianna.’ He said and I blinked a couple times.

‘Huh?’ I said with a WTF look.

‘She speaks like someone is telling her what to say.’ He said trying to get me to understand.

‘You talked to her?’ I asked and I felt angry and almost betrayed for some reason.

‘Yes, but that’s not the point-’ he started but I cut him off.

‘Then what is the point? Did you forget she pushed me down the portal? She is my jealous twin sister and she will always be that way. I thought you were my friend.’ I whispered at the end.

‘I am I just- I need some air.’ He said opening the door and Lucy, Nico and Jake fell down from leaning on the door. I rolled my eyes as they got up.

‘Leah how much do you remember from our home?’ Jake said picking up a book from the shelf.

‘The day I was pushed to earth,’ I said and I saw the look Jake shared with Lucy.

‘What?’ I asked confused. Am I missing something?

‘You almost died as a baby of an illness but you survived. Throughout the years you were the attention of both your parents and Evianna was ordered to stay away from you because she was sick more often but it was never severe. Both of your parents hired people to care for her instead of doing it themselves. She was always put to the side and you came first for anything.’ Lucy said looking at me and waiting for my reaction.

That can’t be true. Mother said she was her favorite.

‘Evianna didn’t have any friends really because there’s not that many people in that realm. Apparently she and Justin had a thing going on. Justin saw something in her and fell hard for her and then after you were pushed down he said he had yelled at her but something in her eyes was telling him that she didn’t mean it. The truth is Justin knows Evianna better than anyone, even your parents.’ Jake said and I felt guilty for yelling at Justin.

‘Well I don’t know what to say now.’ I said stumped. I had always assumed that she was evil but I still don’t know for a fact she’s good so-

My thoughts were interrupted by a crash that came from outside. We all ran outside and saw a blonde girl that shared all my features but she was covered in a bloody heap. Justin held her and there was a note on her.

‘Let me see the note,’ I said stronger than I felt. Justin handed me the note and I read it aloud.

‘Kathalina,

Your sister was such a big help to me but as of now I do not need her so I came to dispose of her. I will send 3 monsters to come and kill her and if you somehow manage to keep her alive I will have the honor of killing her and all that you care about. Until then… -D,’  I read and I looked at Evianna but I still felt a loss of trust with her.

‘Justin takes her to the infirmary.’ Jake said.

‘There’s an infirmary here?’ I asked without thinking. Jake smiled and nodded his head. There was a rumble in the ground and we all froze. There was a screeching sound then a creature flew into view. It roared like a tiger but it was still too far away to see.

‘Holy sh-’ Jake started to say but was cut off by another screeching noise. Jake ran inside and Lucy spread out her wings.

‘Let’s get this show on the road shall we?’ she said and flew towards with me right behind her.

Nico’s POV    :D

I watched them both fly after her and I felt so completely useless. I’m not an angel and I don’t have wings so there’s nothing for me to do.

Jake came back huffing and held a book out to me; I took the book and on the page that was open was a picture of the creature we were up against.

‘A Saber Horffin from the Horetic species, Part Saber tooth tiger, horse and griffin. It has a head of a griffin but its bite damage as a saber tooth tiger. Its wings allow easy flight and it has the body of a horse and long muscular legs with claws that can rip it prey into shreds. Each Horetic has a special mental and physical ability which is normally the wings as a shield.’ I said out loud and looked back up. The girls were hit by the tail and were hit straight into the lake. The monster screeched again and went towards me.

‘It wants the book!’ Jake yelled as I ran through the trees. I focused my energy on sending the bird to hell like accidentally did with those skeleton warriors. (In the story of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan's Curse)

It flew right over the hole I made and I yelled in frustration. I ducked just before it clawed my face and I tried running again. Every time I made a move it was like it knew where I was going. I pulled off my skeleton ring and it turned into my Stygian iron sword.

I raised my sword as if I were about to swing then I did something that surprised the creature. I turned and ran the other way. I was close enough to throw the book to Jake so I did and he caught it. I was knocked over and I felt its claws dig deep into my arms as it tried to bite my head. I fought the scream that was aching to come out but I knew that would do nothing.

‘IT’S WEAKNESS IS UNDER ITS WINGS!! YOU HAVE TO STAB IT!’ Jake yelled and the Horetic lunged towards Jake. Leah and Lucy pushed the creature out of the way before it got him then stopped.

‘It’s a mind reader, it solely uses it’s mind reading ability to see because if fact it’s blind, can’t smell, and it’s hearing is very low.’ Jake whispered and my mind went blank as I stared at the creature that was turning in a circle before stopping and looking towards the house. It ran towards the house and that’s when it hit me.

It’s here to kill Evianna.

Shut up

-You know you’re telling yourself to shut up-

I snapped back into reality when Jake sprouted wings in his back and flew towards the creature. I ran after him but my arms set me back. It was as if someone put salt on an open wound because my arms hurt like no other pain I’ve felt before.

‘Nico are you okay?’ Leah asked me and I had just noticed her.

‘Go, you have to protect your sister!’ I gritted threw my teeth.  She looked wary but went after the creature. I heard yelling and crashing noises in the house and I grabbed my sword. I lifted it up and it felt like I was lifting 100 pounds of weights. I clicked it and it turned back into my skeleton ring. I slipped it back on and I ran into the house to find something to stop the blood from running down my arms.

I ended up in a room filled with lots of white beds and the room smelled a lot like disinfectant.

‘Who’s there?’ a voice said as I looked around what I’m guessing is the infirmary room.

‘Nico, can you help me?’ I asked and Justin came out from behind the curtains and I rolled my eyes.

‘What happened to you?’ he said while getting gauze from the cabinet.

‘You know the usual, almost getting shredded open by a Sabor Horffin.’ I said and he chuckled and wrapped my arms up. I heard whispering behind the curtain Justin was hiding behind and I raised an eyebrow.

‘We’re not allowed to think so you have to speak everything on your mind so you’re not thinking. It makes it easier not to be found by the Horffin.’ He said tying up the wrap which hurt like a son of a gun.

‘Smart.’ I replied as he tied up the other arm. I lifted up both arms and even though they hurt like hell, it was a lot easier to manage than before. There was crashing noises outside the door and we all went silent which was our big mistake because all of us started thinking.

The Horffin burst through the doors and screeched. It sounded like a whole bunch of nails were grated against a chalkboard. It ran towards the curtain and Justin picked up a gun from his belt and shot at the creature. It deflected it off its wings and without thinking I charged at it and yelled ‘ATTACK!!!’ in my mind and it swished its claws at me as I took off my ring and slid under the creature and stabed under its wing.

It screeched in pain and I stabbed the other side as it began to fall. I caught its beak just before it fell on my face and Justin quickly pushed the creature off me.

‘Where are-’ Justin started and Jake, Lucy, and Leah came in holding swords and guns and pointed everywhere.

‘Where were you guys?’ I asked and Leah rushed in and hugged me.

‘We kind of lost track of the creature but we see it found you.’ She said and I laughed and kissed her forehead.

‘Nico use your sword to cut the wings off. They can be put for good use.’ Jake said tossing me my ring. I caught it and it turned into my sword. I walked over to the Sabor Horffin and cut off its wings and soon after it turned into black ash.

‘F*<K!’ Jake yelled startling all of us.

‘What?!’ we all yelled and he pouted.

‘I can’t study any of these creatures because they turn into ash before I can take any samples!’ he yelled and we laughed.

‘Nerd’ Lucy said rolling her eyes. I looked at Justin and he was hooking up, I’m guessing the infamous Evianna. She looked similar to Leah but there were some differences but otherwise you couldn’t tell them apart.

Justin hooked up Evianna to an I.V. and went to a mini-fridge and pulled out something familiar that I’ve always seen at camp when someone got hurt.

‘Is that Ambrosia?’ I asked and he nodded feeding her.

‘Dam, you have more? That could help heal my arms faster.’ I said sitting on one of the beds and Leah went to the fridge and got me some. I ate it and was comforted by the sweet cookie that healed but too much could be fatal.

‘Hey look there’s a note in the ashes.’ Lucy said picking up an envelope. I took the note and read it aloud.

‘I see you’ve survived but be prepared because when you let your guard down a greater monster will come and kill you all. Evianna, you’re not safe and you never will be, I will always control you because as long as that tattoo is on you, you will forever belong to me. –D’

‘Who’s D?’ Leah asked and we all looked at Evianna. She looked pale and stared at me right in the eye.

‘He’s the worst creature in the world, he’s a Demogorgon.’ She said and I frowned.

‘What the hell is that?’ Lucy said putting her hands on her waist.

‘I’ve heard that name before. Justin can you move Evianna and the I.V. to my library. I’ve heard that name before.’ Jake said and we all got up and followed Jake. We ended up in a library that made me think if SpongeBob’s library. Yes I’ve seen SpongeBob, sue me.

Jake pulled a ladder out and climbed up searching for something.

‘Don’t just sit around lazy a$$es. Get up and start looking for a really old book that starts with a D.’ Jake said scowling at us and I shook my head in disbelief. The place was HUGE! How are we going to find the exact book?

‘SEARCH!’ he yelled and we got up and started picking up books. The ones that looked old and started with a D, were checked by Jake then put in a reject file in the middle of the room. This went on for about a couple hours until my arms could take no more.

I sat down on the floor and I heard a whisper.

“Nico,” the voice whispered gently and I looked up startled. Everyone was busy searching through all the books.

“Nico,” the voice whispered again and I felt a spirit present and it was like none I had ever encountered before and I’m the son of Hades.

I book fell from the top shelf onto my lap and it was a dark black book with the word Demogorgon written on the front. I opened the page and flipped through the book. It had pictures of what seemed like a shadow of a man but you couldn’t really tell. I flipped through all the pictures until I ended on the last page which made my gut tighten.

‘The Demogorgon preys on human flesh but will stop at nothing to devour the life and soul of a fallen black angel. The black angel will give the Demogorgon power beyond wonder and nothing will be able to stop it unless’ I whispered out loud then flipped the page but there was nothing there. I stared at the book like it had grown three heads and talked.

There has to be more than that. I looked closer at the page it was supposed to be on and you could see the page was ripped. I slammed the book closed and groaned in frustration.

-Are you serious?! There has to be more!- I yelled in my head.

I stood up and Jake looked ready to yank his hair out.

‘Is this what you’re looking for?’ I asked holding up the book and Jake face lit up.

‘Yes!’ he yelled and I tossed him the book and he scowled.

‘Be careful!’ he yelled then started flipping through the pages looking very serious.

There was a rumble outside and we all looked at each other. There’s no way the Demogorgon sent another monster already, right?!
