Monday Morning

Tony's POV

Today is the day!! It's Peter's first day of the internship! He hasn't told the groupchat yet, and it confuses me. Wouldn't he tell us that he won? I pictured him in all caps texting me "Mr. Fe, I won!" all excited and jumpy. He always seems to make me smile whenever we chat.

He might just be waiting to tell us, but I can't bear to wait any longer. I want to hear from him, so I can brag about how great he is.

Peter's POV

I walked to school in a slow pace. Yesterday really made me upset. I haven't spoken a word to anyone at all, except for May. I just don't feel like talking. I'm just numb.

Mr. Fe is going to be so mad that I let him down. He might even block me, so he doesn't have to talk to such a failure.

He's the closest thing to a dad I've had in a long time. I don't want to lose him, but I understand if he does leave me. I wouldn't want anything to do with me either.

I took out the sticky note for today and read it over again.

Bothersome
(adj. Causing bother; troublesome)

Seems about right. All I ever do is annoy people. I'm just a burden on everyone's shoulders.

I sighed and wiped away a tear. It's what I get for having hope.

I arrived at school to greet Ned and MJ. I didn't talk to them, and they took it as a sign that I lost and was upset. MJ just patted my back, and Ned invited me to his house so he can cheer me up with some good ol' legos.

I declined with a shake of my head. He nodded and smiled at me. I smiled back, and we all walked to class.

We walked to lunch, and it was crazy, because I was actually walking with them with lunch money in my pocket. I didn't get stopped by Flash at all today. I could actually eat a little bit today.

Everytime Flash had spotted me, his eyes got wide and he ran the other direction. It was very weird, but I didn't mind. I could get used to it.

I remembered what happened on Friday. It must have something to do with it, but I couldn't think of anything.

When I thought about the internship, I frowned again.

"Are you sure you're okay, loser?" MJ asked. I nodded.

"I'll be fine." They looked at me skeptically and I reassured them with a small smile and we kept walking.

It was the end of school, and I was making my way out of school. I saw this fancy black SUV with faded windows in the pick up line, and I wondered whose parents were that rich besides Flash.

I knew for a fact that Flash had his own car. One time, he almost ran me over as a joke to taunt me. I also may have borrowed it when I was Spider-Man.

I realized I was staring after the car honked its horn. I turned red, thinking I must've offended the driver in some way. I race walked around the corner, out of sight.

I slipped into the nearest alleyway and changed into my suit and went on patrol.

I heard a cry for help and I immediately swung to the rescue.

I arrived to the scene and I saw a girl at gunpoint and another crying and begging for them to stop.

"Give us the money, or say goodbye to her."

"Please, don't hurt her. Madison, you're going to be okay, I love you. It's okay." She said as she dumped her purse. She seemed to be pretty wealthy.

"Hurry-" I webbed his hand that was holding the gun to the wall of the building next to him.

"It's not nice to aim guns at people." I knocked the gun out of his hand and I webbed his whole body to the wall. I also webbed his mouth shut, because he looked like he was going to upset Captain America, and just because I felt like it.

Madison, I believe that is what her name is, quickly ran to the other girl and kissed her, still sobbing. She turned to me, still clinging to her s.o., and smiled gratefully.

"Thank you, Spider-Man."

"All in a day's work, ma'am." I saluted her and took off.

I stopped a few other robberies and I called it a day. My spidey sense was calm, and I knew it meant I was done. Besides, my stomach hurt from barely eating anything, so I would've passed out mid-swing if I didn't stop now.

I changed out of my suit, and I walked to my apartment.

Tony's POV

Peter was supposed to be here by four. That was two hours ago. Where is he?

I called Happy and asked him what happened.

"I don't know, he just stared at the car and turned the other direction. I tried honking the horn to get his attention, but he got all red and he walked away. I don't know why."

"Thanks, Hap. I'll try to find out what's going on."

"Sorry, Tony."

"It's alright. See ya."

"Bye."

I rubbed my temples and thought of all the possibilities of what could've happened.

Maybe Mr. Fe can find out.

Have you found out the winner yet?

The Kid

Uhh

Yeah.

It's not me.

I wasn't good enough.

I'm sorry for disappointing you. I understand if you never want to talk to me again.

WHAT

What does he mean by that!? Pepper wrote him a whole letter congratulating him for winning. I KNOW he won!

Mr. Fe

What!?

I would never do that!

How do you know you lost?

The Kid

I got a letter saying that I didn't qualify for it.

Mr. Fe

There has to be some sort of mistake.

YOU SAID YOU IMPRESSED THEM?!

You did so well!

The Kid

Apparently it wasn't enough

This has got to be a mistake.

I ran to Pepper's office where she was, and I told her what happened.

"How could that be possible? I specifically sent a congratulating letter and I sent it to the address he gave me. How in the world could he get one of those?"

"I have no idea. He feels really upset, because he believed he did really well, an even that wasn't enough. I DON'T WANT HIM TO FEEL LIKE THAT, PEPPER. HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW AMAZING HE IS, BECAUSE NO ONE HAS EVER TOLD HIM THAT. I just want him to be happy, and I feel like I just made him feel the exact opposite..." I drifted off, feeling horrible. It was silent until Pepper finally spoke.

"Then what are you going to do about it?" I looked at her with a determined face.

Hey kid?

The Kid

Yeah?

Mr. Fe

I think it's time we met.
