Ash's POV:

"Hiccupa what are you doing here?" I asked surprised to see her by the football field.

"I'm here to talk to  coach Mulch he wants me to design the new t-shirts for the booster club." she replied nonchalantly. I took note of the sketch book in her hands.

"Really? I didn't know you were involved in the Booster club" I said surprised because I had never seen her at a game before, pep rally, fundraiser,  or any team practices prior that I could recall.

"I'm not Mr. Bucket recommended me to the coach and when he saw some of my art he requested me to design the shirts." she said giving a subtle shrug. "Art is art. Helps me hone my craft and something to include in my portfolio and college application submissions."

"Oh that's great maybe I'll get to see more of you around then. Hey, do you need a ride home? Since it's the first day of school we're getting a couple days off of practice to settle in with classes." I decided told Hiccupa hoping that she'll say yes. I really want to get to know her better especially after our brief art class conversation and giving her a ride home would be one way of spending more time alone together.

Hiccupa paused as if in thought "Well, um, uh I was going to walk with Tooth- I mean Tim home. Anyway don't you give rides to your friends won't it get crowded with me their?" she said I watched her cheeks redden and she brushed some loose hair behind her left ear. 'God's she is too cute' I thought to myself.

"I have plenty of room in my car and my friends are good guys their on the same team as me. Come on I'll even give your friend a ride too." I reassured her 'ok not quite working out with us alone but hey I'll take what I can get.' I gave her a smile.

Hiccupa looked reluctant but then replied "Alright, if you can wait till I'm finished talking with the coach and sending a text to Tim then I will take you up on your offer."

I beamed a smile at her from ear to ear "Alright, that will give me time to connect with some friends then when your finished just come by the bleachers." I said.

I watched as Hiccupa walked off following after Coach Mildew who was gesturing with his hands and talking about team spirit.

I then pulled out my phone and started texting Jack Frost

Ash: Hey Frost do me a favor give Snot and the Fish a ride for me

Frost: Dude seriously? I'm with Elsa right now

Ash: Come on I got a shot at a chick right now and I don't want to blow it

Frost: Really? and who is this chick that's got you all strung out?

Ash: Hold up I'm not spilling yet

Frost: Fine. I'll do it but you owe me and Elsa.

Ash: will do Ice Man

Frost: DUDE DON'T CALL ME THAT

I then started texting Snotlout and Fishlegs telling them I wasn't giving them a ride but Jack Frost would. Fishlegs was fine with it but Snotlout was his usual bitchy self. I strolled over to the bleachers and shot texts. I looked up and smiled Hiccupa was approaching.

"Hi so Tim said he was gonna head out without me so your car will be a little less crowded now." she said looking unsure.

"Well it's gonna be a lot less crowded. My friends got rides with somebody else so it's just going to be the two of us" I got up on my feet and gestured her towards the student parking lot with one of my arms. I noticed her backpack and decided to be a gentleman and reached for the straps. "Here allow me to take that for you."

Hiccupa immediately blushed and ducked her head "Oh, you-you don't have to do that." she said.

"It's alright I want to" I said. Reassuring her of my noble intentions as we approached my car I slipped my keys from the pocket and hit the button on the key fob to unlock the door. Then I approached the passenger side and held it open for her. Even though she kept her head down I could see a blush on her face. "Thank you" she said. I shut the door.

'Seriously she is too cute for her own good.'

I got in the driver side and started the engine clipping on my seat belt and checking my mirrors before backing out. As I approached the exit to the parking lot I asked Hiccupa a question. "So tell me Hiccupa are you at all fond of smoothies?"

We had just pulled into the parking lot for the smoothie place we got out of my car and I locked the door using my fob. I went up to the shop and held the door open for her and she told me "Thank you" on her way in her arm brushing against my chest which sent a zing through me I hate to admit.

We got in line and looked at the menu I glanced at her and said "So what flavor are you down for?"

She crossed her legs then placed her finger on her chin in thought as she looked then turned towards me smiling. "I have no idea they all sound good" and she laughed. "No, seriously I'll get the raspberry revolver."

Hearing her laugh I decided I wanted to hear her do that more often because I don't think I had ever heard her laugh before. "MMmmmhh, well I will go with the blueberry battle-ax then" I said grinning at her. We placed our orders and despite her insistence to pay her share I paid for both of us. Then we wondered outside and sat down at one of the café tables.

We sipped at our drinks  "Hiccupa, why don't you tell me some more about yourself." I asked out of curiosity.

"Well what do you want to know?" she asked.

"Tell me about your family, where you live, music you listen to, anything" I wanted to say everything but I restrained myself not wanting to alienate her.

"Well I live with my dad, his dog Skullcrusher, and my cat Night Fury. Our house is in the Berk neighborhood and we've lived in the same house since I was six months old or so I've been told." She told me shrugging her shoulders and taking a sip.

I noticed she never mentioned her mother and decided not to bring it up she would tell me in her own time. "What breed of dog and cat do you have?" I asked wanting to keep the conversation going.

"Well Skullcrusher is a bloodhound and Night Fury is an American short hair a basic black cat." she said smiling. "What about you Ash any pets?"

"Sure I have a dog. An Irish Setter named Stormfly. Maybe sometime we could meet up and go to the dog park together." I suggested wanting to show I was interested and wanted to spend more time with her.

She smiled and brushed some hair behind her ear "I haven't really been to a dog park before." she said.

"Oh, you should check it out at least once, you'll see all kinds of different dog breeds. The dogs can be lose without leashes on and can run and play they get some good exercise and you see how the whole pack dynamic works out." I said describing it to her.

"Sounds like high school only with dogs." she said laughing.

"Yeah, your right we have our own pack dynamics we have to work out as well." I said laughing along.

"Well as for my family I live with my parents and my sister in the same house my parents bought when they got married twenty-five years ago. I'm also in the Berk neighborhood. Do you have any other hobbies or talents besides art?" I asked to keep the conversation going.

"Well I like reading a lot and designing outfits, music, and dancing. I have a job working at my godfather's foundry The Forge he's taught me everything I know about metal working. I also babysit on occasion." Hiccupa said.

I was really impressed Hiccupa a welder I had a hard time imagining that. "No, way you a welder? but aren't you kind of young. I mean don't you have to be licensed?" I asked.

"Well, Gobber was never been much for following rules and he started me off simple enough. He works as a blacksmith at the renaissance fair in the summer so he would have me apprentice him. That's where I started out at first then I worked my way up to brazing. I do light welding and I have observed iron pours but Gobber insists I am not to assist with those till I'm 19. Though I could probably at give it a shot now." Hiccupa explained as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

Now that I looked closer at Hiccupa's arms I noticed the muscle tone which must have come from working so much. "I'm surprised you don't have any scars." I said.

"Well I do wear proper safety gear and follow the necessary procedures that is one thing Gobber does not skimp on. I have had many hours of safety training and lectures. Then again if you saw him he is a poster child for safety first." Hiccupa said. "He has two prosthetic limbs."

I made an "o" shape with my mouth because what else can you say after hearing a statement like that. I noticed we had finished our smoothies and I didn't want our time to end but Hiccupa might need to get home and I would be expected for dinner. "Hiccupa do you need to be home soon?" she checked her phone.

"Yeah, I should probably get back my dad will wonder where I've been." I could sense some reluctance in her expression so now was the time.

"If it's alright could I get your number." I asked pulling out my cell phone tapping the screen and entering my pin and opening a new contact window.

"Sure. It will come in useful for all those doggy play dates you want to have." she teased me.

I smiled as we exchanged our numbers I sent her a text to make sure it worked and when she looked down and rolled her eyes I knew it was a success. We got up threw our cups away and headed to my car. She gave me instructions to her house and the whole ride there we discussed the music playing on the radio at the moment.

When I pulled up to her house I said "Bye Hiccupa I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow."

"Thank you for the ride and the smoothie and I look forward to seeing you too Ash. Bye have a goodnight." She replied.

She gave me a last smile got out of the car and I watched as she walked up to her front door I waited till she opened her door and then I pulled away. I smiled to myself the whole way home.
