i've recently had a little fight with my mama and my sister about my music taste. the thing that made me super angry is the fact that they were all being very judgmental about it.

first of all, i never talk about the things i like with my family mostly because of the reaction they all are giving me after i tell them something about it. for example that one time i was literally in love with chris brown and they all went like ''he hit rihanna'' '' you shouldn't listen to his music'' ''he is a jerk'' ''his songs are inappropriate''

OKAY, okay, i get it. the thing he did was certainly not acceptable but i'm not here to judge him, i'm not here to say wrong things about him because i'm here for the music. i like his style, his voice and more importantly, his words.

anyway, i've been very into kpop and anime for a long time now, but i've been hiding it for a while 'cause i didn't want people to think that i'm a weirdo or something like that, but once i've seen that a few people on here like the same things i do, i was like fuck it. this is me, why should i hide that.

AND basically, i don't know how, but somehow my family and i had a conversation about music and i just randomly said that i like kpop singers. my mom's first reaction was ''are you insane?'' and my sister's reaction was''ew gooks'' (gook is a very offensive word for someone who's asian)

now, i'm not here to say that my 23 yearold sister and mom are mean (i love them more than anything in this world), i'm just saying that what they said was indeed rude and disrespectful. first of all, my sister listens to classic rock, you know, jack white, ac/dc, pink floyd and such but i've NEVER EVER said anything bad about it. sure i don't listen to that kind of music genre but i have never called her music taste emo, goth or something worse.

i was really angry at them, and istill am, because i've been thought and raised to act kind, to respect people no matter the race, and now here they are doing the total opposite.

however, today i saw a very interesting and confidence boosting video that made me want to write this rant. the whole point of me writing this is that you have to be yourself. it's okay to be different and to like different things. you have the freedom to do so and nothing can take that away from you, not even your family.

if you have ever found yourself in a situation like this or similar, where someone is insulting your music taste, your clothing style or the things you like in general, let them be. let them talk and show their ugly personalities.

if you're transsexual, bisexual, pansexual, metrosexual, homosexual or heterosexual... THAT'S OKAY.

if you're skinny, plump, dark skinned, white skinned, tall, short, male, female... THAT'S OKAY.

if you like listening to hip hop, metal, pop, indie, electronic, rock or even classic music... THAT'S OKAY.

if you like to dress up in long sleeves, t-shirts, leather jackets, high-waisted shorts, fur or plastic bags... THAT'S OKAY.

if you like ducks, grandmas, david hasselhoff, anime, arnold schwarzenegger, pizza or i don't know, some weird shit... THAT'S OKAY TOO.

being different is okay, being different is awesome. normal is overrated and you should never bother what anyone thinks of your music taste, what you watch, your clothing style, how much make up you wear or how much you eat. society is a nasty thing these days, and all they're trying to do is boost their own ego by seeing you fall or make you fail.

please DO NOT let them do that.

lift your chin up, and smile, kill them all with kindness and strength of your own personality. and do not judge anyone else. because at the end of the day, sometimes and somewhere, we're all the same. we're all humans who crave for attention or for a little bit of love. which is okay too unless we're crossing the line.

be yourself, and love the things that make YOU happy, don't you ever do something that your parents want you to do or think it's the best for you. after all, it's your life, your decisions, your freedom. no one can take that away from you. remember that.
