Special Chapter #3

IT WAS ALWAYS BOTH OF US

"Hey Tae, how are you? I'm lonely without you," Yoongi said as he threw pebbles, sitting down near Taehyung's tomb as he sighed.

"You're having fun now, aren't you? You deserve it. As long as you're happy, I'm contented," he smiled as he looked down.

"I remember that time where I first met you. You were like a cousin and a brother to me, even though I was older," he said as he picked at the grass.

"And Jungkook.... I missed the boy. It was always the three of us. Everything was so... beautiful, if it weren't for all the hate in your heart. I couldn't even recall the time when I last met Hoseok," he muttered.

YOONGI POV

"Look at that guy, Yoongi. I heard he works for your oldest cousin. Look at how horrible he looks," one of my friends said as they stared at the junior who was playing alone.

It was in elementary school when I first laid eyes on the boy who looked so young and fragile. He was in the court, and it was after school. He loved playing ball for some reason. And it made my interest grow in him.

Just why is he so young to even work for my cousin, who is a loan shark and a shady businessman?

As I waved goodbye to my friends, telling them I had to go to the teacher, I made my way to the boy who was bouncing the ball against the wall.

Since he didn't notice me as I crept behind him, he kept bouncing the ball against the wall and I instinctively caught it in my hands, and he quickly looked at me.

"What are you doing, sunbae?" He asked as he turned to me, looking at me from head to toe.

"You're Kim Taehyung, right?" I asked and he looked down before nodding.

"Why are you bullied all the time? What happened?" I asked. I was a kid at that time so I didn't really know how insensitive that question was.

"They bully me... because they say I'm such a loser for not having a family," he mumbled and I nodded as I bounced the ball back at him.

"You know, you transferred to this school weeks ago. Do you recognize me?" I asked as he stood up slowly, taking the ball before bouncing it bacm towards me.

"I only know is that you are my boss's family. I am thankful that he has saved me and raised me," he said as he caught the ball I bounced back to him, and he did the same again.

"I'm Min Yoongi. My mom is your boss's aunt. But she died, so I felt you a bit when you have a missing father," I replies as we kept playing.

"Why are you talking to me? No one ever talks to me, and I don't have friends," he said as he sighed, and my eyes softened at him as I reached my hand out to him.

"Starting today, no matter what people say, I'll be your friend," I said and gave him a soft smile, and he smiled a bit before taking his hand in mine slowly.

-

"You shouldn't bully him like that, you know. He's going through a tough time right now," I said as I looked at my "friends". They were making fun of Taehyung again for being alone.

"Aw come on Yoongi, you're seriously no fun. Don't tell me you've become all soft for Taehyung, right?" They snickered and I sighed as I looked at them.

"I'm saying he's harmless. He has nothing to do with you guys," I huffed and they laughed as they kept making fun of him.

"Yo ugly! Don't tell me you're going all deaf on us!" They shouted as Taehyung had his back against them.

Then suddenly, Taehyung slowly turned, approaching the boy who was shouting at him just now, before raising his arm...

...and punching him in the face.

"Ow! See what I mean?! Such a jerk!" He cried and Taehyung rolled his eyes as he passed by me.

As I looked at his figure that was slowly walking away, a small tug on my lips curved, and I smiled mentally as I kept looking at his direction.

Well, what a guy.

-

After that, my memories with Taehyung in school were short-lived. Because of our age gap, we had to be busier with our own duties, studies, and many more. As I was in college and he was in high school, I would sometimes talk to him and we would walk around Seoul for a bit.

Now that we both graduated, we spent time together more. He was the new CEO of Dispatch, and I soon became a secretary, or an assistant since no one in my side of the family were supportive.

"Why are you even bothering to go out for lunch when I can just cook?" I grumbled as he looked at me and smiled, raising a brow.

"It wouldn't be fun doing that all the time. You know, I want to go for a BBQ right now," he said, rolling up his sleeves to reveal his newly-inked tattoos.

Now that I see it, the only time I saw him smiling was when he was with me, and it's honestly great to see him happy, he just doesn't show it often.

"Hey you darn brat!"

Me and Taehyung both turnes our heads to the booming voice, looking at the scene. Two men were chasing a young boy who was dressed in rags, and the young boy ran our way, he was probably 15 or something.

He then ran into us, and he looked at Taehyung with a pleading expression.

"Mister, please! These men are trying to take me-"

"Sir, please! That's my son! He just ran away because he wouldn't obey us," the man said as he approached me and Taehyung, and Taehyung furrowed his brows as he took the young boy's arm, handing me to him as he crossed his arms.

"How is he your son? I don't see a resemblance," Taehyung smirked as he looked at the two men.

"You don't understand sir, the boy has always been a brat. He keeps running away and acting like a victim," the other man said and Taehyung nodded.

"Alright, I hear you. You can have him, and I'll call the police that you've been abducting people. Either way, you'll both still be in jail," Taehyung said as he pointed at the men behind him.

I secretly called the police as soon as I saw the young boy. It was obvious he was being abducted by these men. And the police took them away as the young boy kept hiding behind us.

"Are they gone?" He asked quietly and I nodded as Taehyung smiled, giving him a soft gesture by rubbing his dirty hair.

"Everything is alright now. Do you have parents?" He asked.

"No, I'm an orphan," he responded and Taehyung nodded.

"What's your name?"

"I'm Jeon Jungkook."

"Well then Jungkook, instead of getting transported somewhere unknown, how about you stick with me from now on?" Taehyung asked and Jungkook smiled.

"Really? It would be... a burden."

"Don't worry. I'll cover up everything including school," Taehyung smiled, it was a genuine and kind one I rarely see.

And since then, Jungkook has stuck around us for how many years. He has grown old enough to be independent on his own, and Taehyung started giving hin missions after Jungkook pleaded he wanted to help.

I couldn't take up the job for adopting him and neither did Taehyung. So we decided to find him a foster family, and that was how he got Eumji as his sister along with her parents who took care for him, and Taehyung helped with his eduction.

But after his first mission at KimHit, he never came back. Not a glance have I seen of him for years.

"He must be enjoying himself there," Taehyung said quietly as he blew out some smoke and I looked at the window as he sighed.

"Not that I'm upset. It's just that he grew up so fast and I always wanted to let him do whatever he wants," he continued, but I can feel the sadness in his voice when he found out he never came back.

"I'm sorry, Jungkook... he's young. He needs to know what the world is truly like," I responded and Taehyung nodded as he blew smoke from his cigarette again.

"Exactly. And when we meet again, I surely hope that he wouldn't regret leaving. I don't want him to make the same mistake as me," he said as he leaned back.

"But me... I won't leave you Taehyung, you're honestly a man with a different perspective as others," I said and Taehyung smiled from ear to ear.

"I'm happy to hear that. Thank you, hyung," he smiled as he looked at the window

"Because now, the only thing keeping me sane, is a person that trusts me, which is you."

END OF FLASHBACK

"You're here too?" A voice said and I turned my head to look at the tall man who was bringing a bouquet of flowers, placing them on the grave.

"Yeah, I wanted to stay here for a bit," I huffed and Jungkook smiled softly before sitting down beside me.

"I miss him.... if only... if only I wasn't so selfish," Jungkook said quietly and I turned to him.

"No. Believe me, Taehyung called you a traitor, but in the inside... he was relieved to see you take what you truly loved," I smiled and Jungkook looked down.

"I hope... someday... I would tell him how thankful I am to be with a person like him," he smiled and I looked at him.

"Hyung? Your.... cheeks are wet."

I didn't notice the liquid rolling down my cheeks, and I blinked as I looked at the tear stains on my clothes, and I sighed deeply as I wiped them away.

"But... what did I do wrong, Jungkook? Why did I lose him? He was my bestfriend, the only real one who I cared," I said as I sobbed into my hands, tears coming out of my eyes.

"I miss him."
