Part 19

Dear Diary,

I got into my outfit for the earthquake memorial and we set off early this morning. We received the warmest of welcomes. Again crowds gathered in their thousands. We got out the car, outside the Christchurch City Council building. We were welcomed in the Maori tradition by touching noses, by Mayor Lianne Dalziel and elder members of the Ngai Tahu tribe.

Kate made another flawless appearance but I got cheered up. The Mayor commented on my outfit.

Mr Dalziel: Aue, e ahau o koutou pūeru (Oh I like your outfit)

Dayna: E korero e koe ki te tangata kino. Kate Ko te tangata e hiahia e kōrero (You're speaking to the wrong person. Kate is the one who needs that comment)

Mr Dalziel: No koutou tino e titiro whakamiharo. He e Givenchy e mau koutou? (No you really do look wonderful. Is that Givenchy you're wearing?)

Dayna: Ae ko te reira! Ko te tauira o te koti Jackie Kennedy o (Yes it is! It is a replica of Jackie Kennedy's coat)

I feel really confident speaking Maori now. I really need to thank Maria for teaching me. And the best part is, only New Zealanders sort of know what I am saying. I could easily say something about William or Kate behind their backs. But of course, I wouldn't do that! Not after everything they've done for me.

Anyway today's events! 115 people died in the earthquake 3 years ago. The people of Christchurch held a red and black day, (explains our dress code). We met the families of those who died and we laid flowers at the memorial.

After the events at Latimer Square, we got into one of those buses we went in two days ago to go to sailing. We got changed into our clothes for cricketing. I put on my playsuit which was black and my casual red coat.

There was 28 cricketers in all. I had a go and I was pretty good. Kate wasn't too bad either! After that we headed to the Botanic Gardens and we opened a $16.4 million visit centre. And I got to cut the tape. I smiled and all of the cameras flashes and posed for more photographs.

After the hard day, we flew back to Wellington where our clothes from earlier had already been transported back. We then had a Kiwi dinner with the New Zealand prime minister John Key, his wife Bronagh and his teenage son Max. They teased both of us, saying we might end up getting married.

I took one look at Max and I didn't like him. He likes me but it's the opposite for me towards him. I think I'd rather stick being single just now.
