||Rainy Nights||

Rain poured onto the bustling streets of London, droplets falling onto to concrete floor making an unrhythmic melody. People had decided to stay indoors watching their shows, reading books, or dedicating time to their significant other. The pastel pink and purple sky that once draped over London was being drowned out by a dark blue sky accompanied by dark clouds. The rain roughly pelted the window of a certain brunette's room. He sat alone in front of his piano, composing a song. His slim fingers ran across the keys, pushing a few before he stopped and wrote them down on a sheet of music paper.

"Dan?" His flatmate, Phil, had entered the room. Phil's head was popping through the gap in between the door and the doorframe before he entered.

"Yes, Phil?" Dan turned around and glanced at Phil's attire, he wore his Gastly shirt, black jeans and black converse. Dan smiled softly and gave his full attention to his friend.

"What are you doing?" Phil asked, propping himself on the wall. Dan pointed to the sheets in his hand and placed them on the music rack,

"I'm composing a song, but I can't find the right note. It's infuriating!" Dan hissed, raising his hands almost strangling a nonexisting being in front of him.

Phil chuckled and removed himself from the wall, "Can I hear it?"

"No, it's not done yet." He said, staring out the window. The rain had gotten even more aggravated, hitting the glass even harder. Dan turned back to Phil, the corners of his mouth perking up.

"Come on Dan! Please?" Phil sat down next to him, pleading for him to start the song. Dan hesitated and placed a hand on the keys. He held his breath and began playing the beginning notes. After a few minutes, he reached the song's middle, Dan sighed and placed his left hand on the keys. Phil looked mesmerized, his eyes followed Dan's hands but soon grew dizzy as Dan began to play faster. They both sat there in silence, letting the piano's notes fill the room and wander throughout their flat.

Phil glanced up to see Dan, his expression was soft but determined to find the final note; his brow rested peacefully and his lips were slightly curved while he played. Phil smiled as the scene reminded him of an anime called "You Lie in April." The song grew slower and Dan frowned, he didn't know how to finish. He played the second to last note and stopped. He placed his hands on his lap and turned to Phil. Phil smiled and clapped.

"What are you clapping for?" Dan asked, raising an eyebrow at the shorter male.

"I'm clapping because I like the song." He said, his clapping growing silent against the rain.

"But," Dan pushed a key repeatedly, "it's not even finished, I'm missing a note."

"Still, I like it, it has a nice ring. You'll find the note sooner or later Dan. But now," Phil stood up stretching his arms and legs,

"Let's go make some hot cocoa," Phil smiled and pulled Dan up. Dan sighed and got up, "But Phil, aren't we out of hot cocoa?"

Phil stopped and turned to Dan," Oh, you're right Dan." He scratches his head and runs to his room. Dan stood puzzled in the center of his room.

"Phil! What are you-" Phil ran inside again. He was pulling on a sweater when he entered.

"Let's go to the store then! We can buy some hot cocoa mix and some marshmallows." Phil said zipping up his jacket/windbreaker. Dan stood there in disbelief.

"Really Phil? It's raining lions and wolves out there!" Phil tilted his head.

"Lions and wolves?" He asked.

"More than cats and dogs! Phil, we're going to be drenched if we step out there for even a split second." He sat back down on the bench. Phil pouted,

"Daaaan."

"Phil no." He closed his eyes.

"Daaaannn." Phil began to do puppy eyes.

Dan opened his eyes and sighed, "Please don't do the puppy eyes, Phil."

"Daaaaaaaaannnnnn." He walked over to Dan and showed him puppy eyes, his light blue eyes staring down into Dan's dark brown ones. Dan's pale cheeks grew a small tint and he shoved Phil away.

"Fine, let me just find and uber or something, I don't want to wait outside for a cabbie." Dan sighed and pulled out his phone. Phil just smiled and did a little dance. Dan opened the app and found an uber about five minutes away. He decided on that one and turned off the phone. He looked outside and frowned, he definitely didn't want to get wet and yet they were going outside. He cringed and looked at Phil, who was still swinging his arms around like a small dance. Dan laughed and Phil turned around confused,

"What?" Phil stopped dancing and raised a brow to Dan.

"It's just, your dance." He said in between laughs, "You dance for about anything and I find it childish."

"I'm not childish, I'm a full grown man- oh wait you're right." Phil stopped and plopped next to Dan.

"So when are they arriving?" Phil said plucking small threads from Dan's jumper. He got up and walked over to his closet, which he opened and picked out a leather sweater. He placed it on top of his jumper and zipped it up.

"They should be here in about two minutes, let's just wait for them downstairs." He said turning around exiting the door. Phil got up from the bench and followed Dan.

"Dan, you're not mad at me are you?" Phil said glancing down at the brunette who was only a few stairs down. Dan didn't turn around, he simply kept on going down the flight of stairs.

"Of course not Phil, we had coffee last time. I think it's your time to pick out a drink." Dan said as they reached the first floor.

"But I know how much you hate being outside, especially when it's raining heavily," Phil said, getting a scarf and wrapping it around his neck.

Dan grabbed one too, as long as an umbrella. They both looked out the window and saw a car stationed in front of their flat, it was a black Nissan Sentra with the Uber sticker on the window.

"They're here," Dan sighed. He didn't know why, but his stomach felt as if it were playing jump rope with his intestines. He knew something. He gave Phil a worried look, but Phil's eyes lit up as the thought of hot cocoa was mentioned. Dan shrugged it off and smiled at Phil. He opened the door and they walked out. As soon as they walked out, a strong gust of wind hit them, making both youtubers jump and shudder from the cold weather.

"Run Phil!" Dan yelled. Unknowingly, Dan had gotten Phil's hand and dragged him to the car. The rain had gotten their hair soaked, as long as their shoulders. Dan quickly opened the door and threw themselves in.

"Woah there you two, where are you heading to?" The driver asked. He was a man in his mid-thirties, slick black hair, a black button up shirt, and dark blue jeans. He glanced back to meet his new clients.

"Oh, just the convenience store a few streets down," Dan said, looking through the rear view mirror. He adjusted his hand but noticed he was holding Phil's. His face grew hot, Phil didn't seem to notice, so he slipped his hand out of Phil's hold.

"Do you think we should make some pumpkin spice cookies?" He glanced up to meet Phil's stare.

"Yeah, why not?" Phil smiled jumping slightly in his seat.

Dan smiled at his friend and took out his camera from his right breast pocket. He turned it on and pointed it at Phil.

"You know what that means Phil," He shook the camera slightly. Phil threw his hands up and laughed quietly.

"Another baking episode?" He asked. Dan smiled and nodded his head.

"Another baking episode," Dan zoomed into Phil's face.

The driver looked back and smiled, "Hey, you guys are Dan and Phil right?"

"Yeah, we are." Dan said, keeping the camera on. The driver turned to look at the road. The window had gotten blurry so he turned on the windshield whipers. Dan turn to look outside of Phil's window.

"Well, my daughter is a big fan of you guys," he said, meeting Dan's stare, "she watches your videos everyday. She even draws on cat whiskers with a sharpie." The middle aged man smiled and stopped at the red light. Phil grabbed my camera and pointed it to the the driver,

"Well, say hello to the camera sir," he said smiling. The camera showed the recording of him waving and smiling, the background of a few trees and light posts. The rain had gotten sligthly worse and pounded onto the windows. "You'll be our special guest for the video."

"Hello Emily," The driver said turning around, facing the lonely street. Most of the cars had gone to various smaller streets or had gone home. Dan looked outside the window, he heard a slight siren. His ears perked up but he saw nothing. "Strange, where's the-" he thought, but the car started moving slowly as the light signaled to go. Phil kept talking to the driver about their youtube career and vice versa. Dan couldn't shrug of the feeling as the siren got louder. He looked out Phil's window. Two headlights were zooming in quickly, behind them were the blue and red lights flashing. Dan jumped as the lights were heading towards them, showing no sign of slowing down.

"Ph-Phil?" Dan looked horrified, he grabbed his friend's arms pulling him closer. The driver saw the lights and tried to accelerate.

"What is it Dan?" Phil held Dan's arm. He turned around, face full of horror. "D-Dan?"

Dan clutched Phil's shoulders, pulling him closer. The sudden movement made Phil drop the camera. Both of their heartbeats were in sync, they couldn't get out of this accidnet. They both knew what was going to happen. Phil's face was situated on Dan's neck, his hands clawing at the soft fabric of Dan's jumper. Dan held Phil's head and wrapped his right arm around his waist.

"Phil I-"

Both cars collided. Dan closed his eyes and tightened his grip, the impact made them fly to Phil's side then to Dan's. He could feel the car skid on the pavement. The headlights were brightly illuminating the inside of the car. Phil yelled and they fell to the bottom of the car. The nissan came to an abrupt stop. Dan's couldn't see anything but felt a stinging pain at the back of his head and his side. Phil was on top of him, but he couldn't sense anything that was going on. He touched the side of his head. His fingers were wet with a crimson liquid.

"Ph-Phil?" His voice was nothing but a whisper.

Crash

"I think I know what my final note is."

Dan closed his eyes again, and then all was black.
