Chapter Six

Kyla didn't expect the shock that coursed through her as she walked to the Ravenclaw Common room with Calyx and all of the other Ravenclaw's. They had a long walk, going up to fifth floor where they then took a spiral staircase up to a door without a knob or keyhole, instead they were replaced with a knocker in the shape of a bronze eagle. It looked rather old, though well taken care of, and each time anyone knocked on the door with it, it would ask a riddle:

"Flat as a leaf, round as a ring; Has two eyes, can't see a thing. What is it?"

She didn't have the mental energy to think about it, waiting for someone else to answer. She knew she should've been better composed, but she was busy wondering fretfully what would become of her when she went back home, or if she was just going to get disowned, left to fend for herself. That thought chilled her to the bone, if she was disowned - for she thought it would be best to assume the worst - she would at least have Sirius, right?

All of a sudden, she wished she could run back in time to the sorting and beg the hat to give her a new house. She didn't want to let go of the life she had, no matter how much she told herself to. She was respected, smart, dignified, she was a Black. And Black's were perfect, so that's what she spun her web to make it look that way. In everyone's eyes she was supposed to be perfect.

She loved it when her mother boasted about her, yet later she was disgusted. Why was she so worried about her reputation anyways? It wasn't like it would last, she should've already braced herself for all this. She always knew she would get in Ravenclaw, so why hadn't she prepared herself? Why did she have to procrastinate on all the important things?

She needed time, she needed time to put herself together. But she didn't have time, people were watching her, they were always watching her. She wanted to be alone, she wanted to vent.

Kreacher always listened, mind you, she always had to watch what she said, but that didn't stop the fact that he listened. He might not do much about it, but it was helpful to have a vent sometimes. She was afraid to write anything down, of course, because all it took was someone reading it to bring her world crashing down.

So with her fear of writing she began talking to Kreacher, just small things, and never too much at once, but it was a small relief. She didn't at all trust him, but he gave her no reason to trust him, and that made him predictable.

Predictable was good.

Finally, a first year named Wensley stepped up and tried to answer the riddle, "A-a button?" she asked hesitantly.  Then the door swung open revealing what would become her 'second home'.

It was a wide, elegant round room with graceful arched windows that complimented the walls beautifully. The walls were hung with blue and bronze silks that looked incredibly soft, and when she looked up, she had to withhold a gasp. The ceiling was domed, but that wasn't what surprised her, no, it was what was on it. There was a perfect image of the night sky, with the constellations and everything, though it wasn't the same as they were cut into quarters.

She shook her head, trying to focus on what was within the walls and ceiling, the tables, chairs, and bookshelves. The blue marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw, the blue carpet, and the few couches with blue cushions and soft bronze blankets cloaking them. The statue of Rowena was instantly recognizable, as she was rather famous. She was wearing her diadem on her long, wavy hair, that she knew would be midnight black if not for the fact she was a blue statue.

Looking away, she tried to focus on what her prefect was saying, "...and the girl's dormitories will be to the left, a note with the names on who belongs where will be on the door," he finished. I hope he hadn't said anything important.

Then she shrugged the thought off, she'd figure that out in the morning.  So with a last look at the common room, Kyla took the stairs up to the left were she found her dorm six doors from the entrance.

'Kyla Black, Elyssa Danvers, Carolina Stockton, and Fluessa Talon', a little piece of paper was taped to the door, which Kyla decided she would take down by at least the end of the week.  No need for the entire school to whisper about her longer than they might normally.

With a sigh, Kyla turned the knob and opened the door, peeking inside the room she would be staying in for the next seven years.  There were blue curtains over all four beds, and a bronze carpet that she felt a strong urge to turn grey, the bronze made it look dirty.  A small but effective bathroom was tucked into the right corner.

Overall, it was a fairly small room made mostly for sleep, the creators obviously thinking they could just go down to the common room if they wanted to relax and do homework.  A part of her shriveled up at the lack of a balcony, something she desperately wished for after realizing it was the highest point in Hogwarts, the view would've been wonderful.

Maybe there's some way to get on the roof...  she thought tiredly, just holding back a yawn as she she finished putting her clothes in the small dresser cabinet she decided she could claim.  She brushed her teeth, flossed, washed her face, and put her hair up in a sloppy braid mostly out of habit, before practically throwing herself into her bed, not even looking at her roommates.

I hope Sirius doesn't get in too much trouble, was Kyla's last thought before she drifted off into a deep slumber.

(A/N - Sorry about how this update was a little late, although I suppose it can't be late since I don't have a schedule.  I just have that small bit of me that's like, "Update once a week or smth!"  so I've been trying to do that.  But my motivations always been a little flighty so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

PS. I meant to release this last night, and I forgot to press Publish, so sorry about that)
