harvey erickson definitely isn't and never was easy. showing off with confidence, not giving a single fuck and walking around like he owns this word, harvey is a difficult person to hang around with.
he's probably exactly the kind of guy your parents warned you about as a kid.
then why'd you be friends with him?_ harvey has a very calm energy, he's understanding and passionate and has a great sense of humor. being flirty with his friends is some kind of standard, so don't mind that.

harvey has been living in san francisco his whole life. maybe he was always a bit different than most of the guys he hung out with, but it didn't make that much of a difference. being popular at school, good at sports and bringing home the grades his parents expected. things couldn't be better, could they?
the thing was, that harvey wasn't the happiest boy on earth, yet he was full of emotions. he searched for fun and excitement in danger, living the risk, testing his limits. and that's when he met billy hargrove. this angry guy, probably the most attractive loner he's ever seen in his life. they got to know each other at new year's eve 1981 and became inseparable from then.
but what was it like, a friendship between someone who felt nothing and someone who felt everything?

from strangers to friends, friends into lovers and strangers again.

billy hargrove joined harvey's friends group a few months after they met. they listened to a lot of music together and tried to learn playing the guitar some random afternoon.
with still being kids, they never thought about the touches they shared, sleeping in the same bed ( at least at harvey's place ) wasn't a big thing either. they just did these things, even while growing into noisy and chaotic teenagers. they adapted each other's behavior - billy more than harvey did but it still was obvious to watch.

their first kiss happened shitfaced drunk at a band gig of their friends. it wasn't something that happened one-sided and it wasn't their last kiss, either.

and they did call it a relationship. whatever one it was, but they didn't call it love. it was more like a need, a puzzle to be fixed - to feel less and more at the same time. there wasn't a secret they didn't share, no tears had to be hidden. their thing was easy, exactly what they needed.
the ugly end of their relationship came way quicker than expected. neil hargrove's never been a big fan of harvey anyways, couldn't stand how loud and sure of himself he was, how confident he walked around in a way most girls did. neil probably figured out the thing going on between the two boys faster than they did. but he sure as hell also saw them kissing in backseat of billy's brand new camaro.

and for the first time in his life, harvey didn't want to take risk.
he left billy for good, knowing what his father was like; knowing what consequences billy would have to face.

yet, he still left.

the next time they saw each other was in school. PE. looking back he could tell that it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but harvey wanted to talk.
but talking ended in fighting, swinging fists and both of them getting expelled for the rest of the week.

the next thing harvey heard about billy was that he and his family moved.
and it turned out that this shit hurt way too much for something they didn't dare to call love
