Hunk bopped around the kitchen, shaking his hips and rolling his shoulders with a sunshine smile broad, like his shoulders. Nothing could ruin his mood. Not today.
Because today Mr. Ren would be visiting to give them the meal plans for the runway event.
Hunk had been beyond ecstatic, more than his usual cheery self, since Lance and Keith brought the good news. Not only would this get them enough money to finally remodel, but the attention would keep them on the market for years.
As if he deserves it. Hunk sighed happily. Everything had been falling into place lately. Shay...work... It was like he was watching a movie, one he himself had directed. Too perfect.
His thoughts were brought elsewhere when a towel whacked his ass, his mother grabbing his attention. "Mr. Ren is here, stop lolagagging, ataliʻi."
The orchestra in his head silenced as Hunk turned to the front of the store, where the familiar clang of the door chimes spurred his attention. The family rushed to the front desk, where Mr. Ren's newly dyed pink hair, and his stark white suit made him a practical light beam in the restaurant.
"Ayee, Ren!" The twins said in enthusiastic unison. Bruno glared at them, before stepping forward with an outstretched hand.
" Sir, " He started only to be waved aside.
"No need for formalities. We're all friends now, right?" Ren said, flashing a million dollar smile. The family blinked at him.
" Don't be so uptight, c'mon, c'mon. " He chuckled, leading the family to the kitchen. He pulled out a notepad, tiny and brown. He flipped through the papers, full of dull scraggly handwriting.
"Ah, here we are." He smiled, placing the notepad on the counter. "After looking through the menu, these dishes are what I would like prepared. Please."
He readjusted his tie, checking his watch here and there as the family skimmed the terrible penmanship.
"So...as you can see." Ren said after a good few minutes passed by of the family trying to decipher the handwriting. " I loved all the ideas, and it inspired me to redesign the entire opening runway set as tropical! I would like to keep most, if not all, of your best recipes as, they sound so delicious. But, I need some of them to be vegan. "
The family frowned at that. "Our dishes aren't really...vegan." Hunk said. " That might be hard. "
"Yes, but. Many of the clients coming are vegan, and I would hate for them to grow hungry. I apologize."
" It's fine. " Mima stepped in, her toned face and fit body unnatural to her age. "We'll adapt."
" Yeah! " The twins said in unison.
"Wonderful." Ren clapped. " Now, when it comes to quantity. Of course there will be hundreds of companies coming, and we'll all be covering the catering services. But there are around a couple thousand of attendees. So if you could prepare for that in case... "
"A couple thousand?" Orion squeaked. " T-that's insane. "
"Eh, we'll manage." Janie said. " It'll be just like the festival's back home!! I can't wait. "
Ren grinned at her. "I love this one's energy." He smiled at her. She blushed.
"Now," Ren added. " You have about a week-"
"A week?!" Orion yelped again. He looked at his family. " This is outrageous! "
Hunk glanced at his dad. "Yeah..it kinda is."
" I know. " Ren said. "And once again, I apologize. Everything's been piling up, and I haven't had much time to review the catering. But. I'm sure, from what Lance told me about you guys. You'll persevere."
Lina grumbled. "Lance always had a big mouth.."
Hunk's mom chuckled. "We can do it yes, thank you for the opportunity. We won't let you down."
Ren smiled. "Why of course! On November 1st, my colleagues will be heading to Hollywood for the event. We provide transportation free of charge to the models, photographers, and caterers. So we will contact you beforehand for a time of pickup."
" Oh joy, Hollywood! " Janie squealed. "This is gonna be so cool!! "
"Yes," Ren smiled. "I've got somewhere to be soon, so I'll be heading off, don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions! "
He swiped up his notepad and headed for the door, before glancing over his shoulder. "Do your bests."
With that, he was gone. Orion groaned. "There's not enough time!" He slumped. " We'll never make it. "
" With that attitude we won't." His wife said. "Let's go. Boys, " she glanced at the twins. "You're on cleaning duty as we cook, make sure every utensil, pot, and pan is clean as soon as it hits the sinks."
The boys groaned, having been given the worst job. Hunk's mom chuckled. "Lina, we need a lot of dishes to transport all this food in. And it needs to be fancy enough for this event, okay? "
Lina grabbed her keys. "Sure thing." She headed for the door with Hunk's wallet.
" Hey! " Hunk called after her as the door closed. He shook his head in dismay.
"Hunk, you'll be on duty for all the vegan dishes. The rest of us will handle everything else. Remember quality above quantity, but we also need to manage our quantity. Everyone got it?"
The family nodded, before getting to work.
Hunk grumbled, struggling to find where to start. He had to make vegan hors d’oeuvres, dishes, and desserts. He had the hardest task in the family, combining these recipes and dishes to make his own ideas.
But he'd been chosen for a reason right?
His mother knew he was the best in the family, like Shay had always told him. That made Hunk smile.
This was his chance, to show the world what he could do.
He got to work.
...
"Um, well yes, but is there any way you could get the apartment done by say...this weekend?" Romelle asked, hands on her slim hips. She grumbled at the man on the other end of the line, who shooed her off like all the other marketers.
Her hair was tied up, and her nerves were on edge.
She was struggling to move out of her older brother's apartment. He had just proposed to his fiancé, and neither of them wanted Romelle hanging around. She didn't complain, she was supposed to leave years ago, but Bandor was too nice to force her.
Plus, she didn't like third wheeling. At all.
Her bedroom had been packed into thirty or so banker boxes, her Bubbles halloween outfit strewn over them with her bags. She had repainted the room, and cleaned up. All for her bro.
But it meant a lot to him, to finally let his girl move in. And she respected that.
She just had no where to go.
Her barista job didn't pay much, but along with her lifelong savings it was enough to get her some place. If someone would accept her offer.
Bandor's fiancé would be moving in at the end of the week, and Romelle needed to be gone. She didn't know who to stay with, as Allura and Coran didn't have enough room. Probably Lance, who was too nice to say no to her anyway.
But she didn't want to burden anyone else, especially since all of them were so busy with that runway event.
So if she could just....
Her phone rang, the battered mickey mouse case vibrating.
"Hello?" She asked.
" Oh- hi! This is Greenville real estate agency..is this Romelle-"
"Yes! Yes it's me." Romelle jumped. Bandor entered the room, concerned, with his dark red hair tousled and his peach fuzz coming in.
" Oh good. We were wondering when was the earliest you could move in? We have a lot of offers. "
Romelle winked at Bandor. "How about tomorrow?"
