21. fitting room

"I wonder what Lura is gonna wear." Lance said to Keith as they walked through the large fashion department. Lance was definitely living his best life, nearly ascending in this place. Tiered chandeliers and endless designers, mirrors that showed off his gorgeous face...

"Probably a dress." Keith shrugged. He was more uptight, his hands stuck deep in his hoodie, and his head down. He looked so droopy and uncomfortable.

" No shit sherlock. " Lance laughed. "Whats got you in a mood?"

Keith glared at him. "I was up all night editing your shoot. I'm exhausted."

Lance dramatically placed a hand over his heart. "Don't come for me mullet. You're the one that insisted we go shopping today."

Keith ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah, I know. I just want to have enough time. I'm a tough shopper."

" Dude we have like weeks. "

"You underestimate my stubborness." Keith mumbled.

"I'm no genius, but I'm pretty sure that's not a word." Lance chuckled.

" Ok, but did I ask? " Keith glowered. Lance couldn't help but laugh at that.

"Well my bad Mr. Depresso Espresso, you want some coffee or something? I'm not trying to drag you around like this." Lance offered.

Keith shrugged. "Yeah, that sounds good."

The two started heading out of the clothing section but Lance stopped dead in his tracks as he took in his reflection in a nearby mirror.

"I am so pretty." Lance grinned, taking in his slim form in the black romper. Keith rolled his eyes.

Damn straight you are

"Why are you so self centered?" Keith asked, leaving.

Lance skipped up next to him. "Fine line between self centered and confidence."

"What's that?" Keith asked sullenly. Lance shook his head in distaste.

Tons of people surrounded them as they crossed the large mall. The food court was on the other side of the mall, so the boys took a trip down the escalator before passing through the lower level of the building. Teen girls with bags from Victoria's Secret and JC Penny flocked the walkways. Young couples and friend groups bustled by with H&M bags and Starbucks cups. Keith found himself sliding up next to Lance the entire walk, but Lance was in his element.

"Oh my god, we have to go there. I've been looking for a new watch foreverrrr."

"Look at those boots, they'd look so good on me I bet."

" Ugh, imagine having money. "

Keith frowned at literally everything Lance pointed out and jabbered about.

"I just want some coffee." He sulked.

Finally, they reached Starbucks. Keith nearly forgot to actually ask for his order because he was so used to Romelle knowing his usual. He waited impatiently for his drink as he watched Lance saunter to the other side of the café.

By the time Keith's piping hot black coffee was in his hands, Lance already had two girls pinned to his arms. Curvy brunettes with too much lip gloss on. They flaunted and twisted their hair. Lance was practically glowing. Keith couldn't blame them, Lance was gorgeous.

Not that he would ever say that.

Lance spotted Keith frowning at him from the entrance of the café and quickly grabbed the girls' numbers.

He winked at Keith as he sidled up next to him.

"We have things to do loverboy." Keith teased, sipping his coffee.

" Loverboy Lance? " Lance tried out. He smirked at Keith. "Its perfect because it's true."

Keith rolled his eyes. "Whatever floats your boat. You're still single."

Lance scoffed. " So are you!" He whined.

Keith chuckled. Lance's voice had already gone up an octave. It was so easy to get him annoyed. "I have good reasons."

" And I don't? "

"I didn't say that."

"You look so emo. Black coffee and you have such bad bags under your eyes." Lance sighed. "Such a waste. "

"Oh, like you look much better." Keith deadpanned.

Lance raised an eyebrow at that and they both laughed.

"Ok..maybe you look a little better."

They continued with the light banter all the way back to the escalator. Lance got on first but didn't hesitate to mouth a few words to Keith that boiled his blood.

Race ya

"Always a competition." Keith muttered. But he was smiling as he nodded. Then the boys were off.

Keith was in the lead. He had pushed past all the other people on the escalator and was almost to the top. He just had to get past his current obstacle..

She was an old lady. Probably about 80 or more. He wondered why she was alone but didn't question her determination.

She fiercely took up the entire space and Keith waited. Lance wouldn't be able to get passed if he couldn't right?

Wrong.

Just as Keith was politely asking the lady to scoot over just a tad to her left, Lance came zooming through. He stepped up on the final step before grinning at Keith.

"Too slow, Mullet."

Keith glared at him as the old lady slowly waddled away. He could've sworn he caught her smile.

"Whatever, let's just look at some suits."

Lance beamed. "You don't have to tell me twice!"

Of course Lance found his options first. He had ten suits that he was considering before Keith had even found his way around.

"Alright, you sit right here." Lance told Keith, indicating to the small bench in front of the men's fitting room. "Rate each suit one to ten alright? I want the best fit for this party." Lance grinned.

He headed into the changing rooms and left Keith. And Keith was nervous. He didn't like it here. Not really. His coffee was gone so he was a little hyped, but not much. Plus he was a little subconscious now about Lance's comment on his bags.

Were they that bad?

Girls and guys alike flitted through the clothing section and a few employees asked if Keith needed assistance. It was nerve racking and Keith felt uncomfortable. He really wasn't in the mood for social interaction at the moment.

Finally, Lance returned with the first suit. A creamy white with a black tie. Lance turned on his heel for Keith. "So, what do ya think?"

Keith paused. "Um, to be honest? A two."

Lance frowned. "Why?"

" Sorry, it's just bland. " Keith said. Lance nodded.

"Alright, next."

The next suits didn't peak Keith's interest. They were nice, sure. Black and white. Formal. Pink. Baby blue. Gray. Checkered.

But Keith wasn't really feeling Lance in any of them. And if there was one thing he had learned as a fashion photographer, it was that an outfit can speak words.

Especially with Lance.

"This is the last one Keith." Lance called from the fitting room.

" Good.. " Keith muttered, rubbing his butt. "This bench is not comfortable."

" Hope this one meets your fancy. " Lance chuckled. "Your worse than a French critic."

"You wanted to look your best." Was all Keith said.

Lance opened the fitting room door and stepped through. Keith couldn't help it. His eyes immediately widened and his cheeks warmed.

Lance wore a midnight blue tux, with a black undershirt and bedazzled shoulder pads. It was gorgeous. And Lance looked beautiful in it. His shape was portrayed so well in the suit and his eyes seemed brighter. Everything about him practically radiated.

"So... What do you think??" Lance's earnest question brought Keith back to reality.

He gulped. "I- it looks-"

"You-" he stuttered.

Lance chuckled. " So this is the one?"

Keith nodded. "Take a look for yourself."

Lance turned to the nearest mirror and practically screamed. Keith wouldn't be surprised if the employees on duty came running.

"Your right Keith. This is definitely the one." Lance smiled at himself. " I don't wanna take it off. " he grinned.

Keith checked his phone. "Well you need to. We've been here for two hours already."

"Slow your roll mullet. Got somewhere to be?"

Keith groaned. "Yeah. In bed."

" Okay, okay. " Lance laughed. He went back into the fitting room to change into the romper. He returned to put back the nine other suits, putting the midnight blue tux in Keith's arms.

Keith followed Lance around the store as he returned the suits. "So do I just choose suits I like?"

" Pretty much. " Lance said.

"What if I don't like any of them?"

Lance smirked. "Trust me, you will."

So Keith set off through the maze of designer suits, tuxedos and dress clothes. A few other males searched around too but Keith was lucky enough to not have to interact.

He only found five suits he thought were decent. A classic tux, a dark navy blue suit with a black undershirt (thought it looked similar to Lance's), a white suit, and two others.

When he returned to Lance at the fitting rooms, he was angered to see Lance scrolling through his phone.

"What the hell are you doing?" Keith asked, snatching his phone. He didn't have anything embarrassing on there but his privacy was worth consideration.

" Just looking through your search history. " Lance wiggled his eyebrows. "Sadly, your a boring person." he sighed.

Keith frowned. "What? No I'm not."

" Yes you are. You look up Buzzfeed quizzes and the author of the Bible. " He laughed.

"Hey! I was just wondering." Keith frowned.

Lance nodded. "Uh-huh."

Keith glared. "Whatever. I'm going to try these on."

Lance was honest enough with himself to admit he definitely found Keith attractive, especially in the suits. He looked good, and knew it too. His confidence was pretty hot.

"You could be a model I bet." Lance said, leaning forward on the bench as Keith fixed his collar.

" I feel more comfortable behind the camera. " Keith said slowly. "But thanks."

" No problem. "

Then Keith tried on his third suit. A dark red tux with a black silk tie.

Lance's jaw dropped and his heart beat quickened a little. Keith looked incredible. The suit was simple, but so Keith. It just yelled defiance and passion. Keith knew it too. He felt comfortable in the suit. He even did a spin for Lance.

Lance was eating it up. He bit his lip and watched in silence.

"So what's the verdict?" Keith asked. " I personally like it more than I thought I would. "

"That's the one." Lance said. "That's it."

Keith frowned. "Lance, I haven't tried on the others-"

Lance looked Keith dead in the eye, Keith's heart stopped. "Trust me. It's the one."

...

The boys ended up in the food court with their stunning tuxes zipped up in dry cleaning bags, clean and ready to go. They had spent a lot of money but they were both happy with the outcome.

"So, you still hate shopping?" Lance asked. He was eating a large platter of garlic knots from the Pizzeria, licking butter off his fingers.

Keith shrugged. "Yes." He chuckled at Lance's frown. " But this was alright I'll admit. "

Lance grinned. "I've succeeded."

Keith scoffed and tipped back his chair. "Yeah, thanks."

"My pleasure." Lance said smiling. Keith smiled back. For a second it was nice, but then they were both a little too warm.

Lance cleared his throat. "You owe me now." He quickly recovered.

Keith rolled his eyes. "Oh of course, anything." He said dryly.

" You have to name the bike. " He said. Keith frowned.

"Lance-"

"Come on. Please? Just for me. Name it Red. For me. Please."

At Keith's blank stare, Lance pulled out his award winning puppy eyes, large and blue, and his pouty lips.

Keith folded his arms. "Fine." He averted his eyes.

Lance fist bumped absolutely nothing. "Yes! She's too beautiful to go unnamed."

Keith didn't say anything.

Lance ate another garlic knot. "How come you never named her?"

Keith still didn't look at Lance. "Long story."

"I've got time."

Keith side eyed him. "What if I don't want to tell you?"

Lance smirked. "I have a feeling you do."

Keith rolled his eyes. "My dad didn't want to name her."

" Oh. "

"He got her for me when I was 15 if you remember." Lance shook his head. Keith smiled.

" Of course not. " he shook his head. "Anyways, he told me when he bought her for me 'Keith, keep her running long after you yourself can't run anymore.' And I, being the young rebellious kid I was at the time told him I would probably sell her in a few months."

" Rude. " Lance said.

Keith sighed. "Yeah, I was shit back then. But I was also scared of riding. My dad knew that."

" Fast forward, he made me fall in love with that bike. And he became my best friend. "

Lance smiled. "That's sweet."

Keith stared at his hands. "Yeah, until he died."

"Oh-"

"But yeah, he told me she didn't need a name. She was perfect without one. So I didn't spend time on that."

Lance frowned. "I'm sorry Keith, I didn't know. You don't have to name her. I was just joking."

Keith paused before looking Lance in the eye. "But I owe it to you right? Don't worry, I'll keep Red running long after I can't anymore."
