Below the building

This is a bit of a long chapter, but it's only because I want you guys to know about Hoseok's life before all the commotion.

The sound of birds chirping and leaves crunching filled Hoseok's ears. The crispy smell of rain from last night still lingered in the air. Every step he made, a crunchy leaf was heard. He loved that sound.

Hoseok was heading to school early because he was too excited to meet new friends. Of course, he was gonna have his 6 other childhood friends with him, but sometimes he wanted to have a bit more to say hi to him when he sees them at a store.

He just liked having the company of others in general. He always finds a way to meet new friends, but his old classmates just saw him as an annoying kid who is always positive about everything. He wanted to be cheerful and the sunshine of the class, but he didn't know he was annoying.

Hoseok bumped into a fence due to him being lost in his thoughts, "Schools back.." he groaned. He turned his head to the right to see that he wasn't the only one here. The parking lot was filled with cars that had students in them, everybody was checking their mirrors for a good first impression.

He decided to ignore them and headed to the school to pick up his schedule.

"Hobi!" A voice called behind him, "You were supposed to stop by my house first, remember?!" Jimin caught up to him and slung his arm over Hoseok's shoulder. "I'm sorry, I forgot."

He chuckled.

"Wow, okay. You forgot the routine we've been doing since kindergarten, totally understandable." Jimin rolled his eyes. "Anyways, the boys and I rode our bikes here. They should be getting their schedules, I already got mine, did you?"

He waved his schedule up in the air in Hoseok's face, but Hoseok only smiled. "Yeah, let me see your schedule to see what classes we have together." Jimin handed his paper to Hoseok and he immediately paled.

Science
Health
Art
English
Geography
Math

"We have every class together." He mumbled Jimin made a double chin in confusion, "Are you mad we have every class together? You look like you are." Hoseok shook his head, "No! It's not that. It's just that every time we're in a class together we always have to be separated because we're super loud next to each other. Then when we move across the classroom you still manage to make me laugh during a test or something. Then I get in trouble and I get a zero because the teacher thinks I'm cheating."

"Uh uh, you get me in trouble too! Don't act like you're the victim. You got me in trouble by saying the best way to get free snacks from the vending machine was to keep punching it."

"But you listened, Jimin."

"Shut up. It was still your idea."

Hoseok laughed, "yeah but I got 7890 likes on Instagram for it, thank you." He patted Jimin's head and headed off to science class. Jimin growled and followed behind his friend. As soon as he realized that today was the first day of hell, he screamed.

"Why?!!!"

....

Math Class

Hoseok and Jimin sat down next to each other and slammed their heads on the desk. "I wanna go home!" Jimin groaned. "It's only the first day of school Jiminie. Calm down." He said as his lips brushed against the desk.

Jimin glared at him, "You don't seem excited about school either." The other glared back, "You're right, but I'm trying to make the most of my youth before I become an adult."

Jimin just shrugged and put his head back on the desk. "I'll try to do that too." The smell of coffee hot chocolate made the heads of the exhausted boys spring up. "Taehyung!" Jimin sprinted towards the said boy.

"Jimin!" He bear hugged his smaller friend and tried his best to not spill his hot chocolate. Jimin started at his drink, "Where'd you get it?" He asked, "I didn't see that in the cafeteria."

"My girlfriend got it for me. The hot cocoa place is in the office, not the cafeteria." He handed his drink over to Jimin and brought in two more from a table outside. "I saw how tired you guys were during social studies so I asked my girlfriend to get more. Here Hobi."

Hoseok gladly accepted the hot beverage and sipped slowly. The calming liquid flowed through his mouth and made his entire body feel at rest. He looked to his right to see Jimin feeling the same. Then he looked at Taehyung who seemed to be observing the empty classroom. "Where's everybody?"

"It's the first day of school, people are either making the most of the passing period by talking to old friends, looking for their classes, or forgot their locker combination." Taehyung formed his mouth in an 'o' shape as a sign that he understood. "What about the other four? What classes do they have?" Jimin asked while waiting for anybody at all to show up.

"Yoongi told me he and Jin have geography and Namjoon and Jungkook have health. I talked to all of them while I was on my way to get the hot cocoa- hey, can we talk about something else not school related. It's only the first day and I'm already tired of even hearing the word school." Taehyung cringed and huddled up in a seat right in front of Jimin.

Hoseok took a minute to think, but a certain topic he's been thinking about ever since he was little popped up in his mind. "Have you guys heard about that child? The one who.." Jimin immediately gasped as he knew exactly what Hobi was talking about. "The one below that one building near Taco Bell, right?"

"Yeah, that one," Hoseok replied. Taehyung sat up straight, interested in the new topic. "What about them?" Hoseok shrugged. "Have you guys ever seen the child before? Like actually look at it with your own two eyes."

"I have." Jimin raised his hand, "Although, they don't really look like a child. The person looked about our age but it's hard to tell in their condition." Then Taehyung raised his hand, "I went with Jimin. It was hard to tell if it was a boy or girl because they were hidden under a blanket. We saw the employees feed the person, but I felt bad since the portion was very limited." Taehyung looked down.

"Oh.. uhm- never mind." Hoseok put his head down. Jimin noticed his down mood and patted his head, "Why'd you ask? Did you want us to come with you? Jin and Jungkook are the only ones who haven't seen it and I'm pretty sure they'd like to go with you."

"It's not that. I just wish that there was a way that the person under the building could also be happy." He pouted. The two, knowing that Hoseok wouldn't even let anyone frown for a second or two, decided telepathically that Hoseok should be able to see the person under the building. Although it could put their friend in a worse mood, he had to know.

"Whatever Hobi," Taehyung leaned back in his chair, "you're going to see the child, we're taking Jin and Jungkook with you." Just before Hoseok could protest, the class started to fill up with students. Running to sit next to their friends instead of complete strangers.

"Alright, class!" The teacher clapped on his way in, "We'll do a review to see if you remember anything from last year and there will be a review test tomorrow. You don't exactly have to study but just try to remember, okay?" He sighed. He turned on the smart board and started writing equations down for the students to copy.

While the whole class was silent, Taehyung turned around to Jimin and handed him a note. Hoseok couldn't see what the note said but just watched Jimin's reaction. The boy looked up towards the teacher and slapped a mouth over his hand, causing a loud noise to echo throughout the room.

"You need anything..Mr.?"

"Park. Park Jimin." Jimin giggled slightly, "Hey aren't you supposed to be taking a roll call?" Jimin pointed to the teacher's computer. "Oh yeah!" He turned around, showing his Dora underwear peeking from out of his pants. Hoseok looked at the two to see them laughing like seals. Silent, wide mouths, but have enough energy to clap.

"This is going to be a long school year.," Hoseok mumbled and giggled along with the rest of the sunshine line.

...

The dismissal bell rang, signaling all students that school is finally done for the day, "Hoseok!" Yoongi ran up to his trusty companion and hugged him, "This isn't weird, I'm just trying to see if my arms can form a circle around your body." He pushed himself back. "We only have three classes together, and you have all yours with Jimin. You know how awkward it is to be sitting around Jin during lunch? He spits out random jokes to people we've never met and he laughs at himself."

Hoseok got confused, "Wait, what lunch do you guys have?"

"Lunch 1"

"I thought I was being haunted by his jokes and laughs. Did you not see the rest of us sitting at a table? We saved two seats for you guys."

"It's fine, we can all sit together tomorrow," Yoongi replied and started heading outside to get his bike, Hoseok following right beside him. When the two exited, they saw the rest of the group already set with their bikes. "Oh, no.." Hoseok groaned, "I left my bike at home. I forgot we were gonna need it."

Yoongi chuckled, "Just ride behind one of our bikes, but not Jin's. He's gonna get off track."

The two made it to the group and Hoseok chose to ride behind Jungkook. Since he has more control over his bike than everybody else. "Where are we headed?" Namjoon asked. The 95's smirked at each other and signaled off that they should be the one to be followed. Everyone was hesitant because they didn't want to get into another fight thanks to them (it's a long story).

Eventually, everyone agreed and took the chance. Namjoon was silently praying that the duo won't get them into any trouble again.

...

"Jimin, Taehyung, what the hell are we doing here?" Jungkook asked with wide eyes. Jimin strolled up to him and patted his head, "Well, Jungkookie, you guys are here to learn something new about this town. You, Hobi, and Jin haven't seen the child before. Or teenager or adult. I don't know. They do only allow two to three at a time so the rest of us will wait out here."

Jungkook hopped off his bike, so did the two that were going in with him. "Jimin," Jin spoke, "I don't need to see the person. My parents already told me a lot about it, her, him."

Namjoon groaned, "Just go in you guys! They'll tell you what you can't or can do when going below the building. As long as you don't do anything nice to it you'll be fine... and I'm also pretty sure your parents didn't tell you everything. Do you know what the child eats down there?" Namjoon put a hand on his hip.

Jin smirked because he knew the right answer, "Yes, actually. They give it wonton soup every day to keep it nice and warm." Everybody facepalmed, mentally. "Just go in there." Yoongi took Jin by the shoulders and shoved him near Jungkook. Hoseok was scared to be shoved so he ran next to Jungkook as well.

Jungkook went in first and the trembling people right behind him. "Hello! What can we do for you?" A man at the counter asked. "Hi," Jin started, "Is there perhaps an unhappy child below the building?" Jungkook pinched Jin, "Way to be polite. Don't be so straightforward." He whispered. Jin was rubbing his elbow.

"Yes, there is." The man turned towards Hoseok since he seemed to be the only calm one at the moment. Uhm no. Hoseok was most definitely not the calm one here. "Would you like to hear the rules or have you already been here already?" Hoseok decided to let the others answer, but when he turned towards Tom and Jerry slapping each other on the arms, he decided that it was best for the rules to be established even if they do know it.

"Alright, so these rules must be followed in a serious matter. Once you go down there, you'll have to pay the least to no amount of respect to the caged child. You cannot talk, smile, or even make it the slightest bit happy. There will be employees down there to do what they need to do. They have these badges and big bags." The man held up his yellow badge, "The child will sometimes plead for someone to help them but just ignore it. The voice of it is kinda scary too. Any questions?" The man smiled.

How can he list such horrible things so casually? Hoseok thought to himself. He shook his head in response to the man, "Okay! Dan here will escort you guys down. Once you're ready to come back up just press the button near the elevator and he'll come to pick you up." A really buff man with a small name tag labeled 'Dan' walked up to the smaller three. He had a big bag hanging from his shoulder with a yellow badge hanging around his neck.

They followed Dan to an elevator around the corner of the building and stood in the elevator. It was an awkward ride. Jin was staring at Hoseok with a 'Help me' look because he was squished between Dan and a corner. Jungkook was comparing his biceps to Dan. Hoping that he will have big biceps like Dan one day. Dan...was just Sdanding there.

"I have a question." Jin peeped up from the corner, "Is the child a boy or a girl?" What happened next caught everybody off guard. Dan opened his mouth and when he spoke, Jin had a hard time holding in his laugh. "Girl." He said with a high-pitched voice. One that sounded like a five-year-old girl.

"Girl?" Hoseok asked with wide eyes, "What's her name?" Hoseok was shocked. He's a gentleman, he'd gladly give up his happiness for any woman. But he knew that if he did, the whole city would fall apart. "She doesn't have a name. Our boss said she can't even be acknowledged." Dan deadpanned. Although Jin tried to be serious about the situation, he just couldn't due to Dan's voice. Hoseok looked behind Dan to see Jungkook. He was also laughing, but silently.

The elevator bell dinged, and the doors open. The three boys couldn't see a thing. The smell of the place didn't help either. Dan allowed the boys to go first and he closed the elevator door. Leaving the boys in a wide, dark, smelly room.

"Where's the girl?" Jungkook whispered to Hoseok. "I don't know Kookie, maybe she's further down the room?"

The boys all huddled up together and walked in unison. Jin was in front, Hoseok in the middle, and Jungkook hugging the boys from the back.

"H-..hello?" A weak voice called. The trio turned pale when the voice echoed through the room and into their skulls. "New people, who dis?" Jin called out but the Jungkook pinched him again on the butt and made him yelp.

"P-please...help- me.." The group turned to the direction in which the voice came from.

Slowly, a little figure wrapped in a blanket crawled into the dim light. Long hair, messy and tangled all over the place. Ribs and hip bones were showing through the thin blanket. None of the boys were able to see her face due to the hair that covered that was everywhere.

"You- you guys are only here to l- look at me?" Sadness filled the voice of the speaker. "If so, just leave. Don't look at me.."

Hoseok was able to hear his heart crack."Please... let me go.."
"I-"
"Hoseok!" The said boy turned his head to look at his elder, "Don't. You remember the rules right?" Hoseok turned his head towards the person in the closet like cage. "but, she doesn't deserve to be here" the head of the suffering girl looked up. Looking at Hoseok, thinking that maybe there is hope for her.

"I know hobi, nobody does, but imagine what would happen if they were happy. Everything will be gone."

"Jin, you know me better than anyone." Seokjin sighed, "of course hobi. I already know what you're thinking"
Hoseok smiled. "So then you know what I wanna do then?" The older nodded,

"Let's run away, and never come back.."

...good luck.
