Khushi told everyone about NK and Lavanya adding her own masala to the story. Everybody had a good laugh during narration of their epic love story, a script of animated kids movie. A standup comedy by Khushi Gupta. Arnav was too shocked to stop embarrassed Lavanya from threatening his wife again and again. He had not seen this coming. NK and Lavanya!!! Too weird to be true. Unimaginable. They were not similar, not opposite, what they were? Khushi's DeviMaiyya may know better. So, while everyone was busy wishing the new couple, he was worried whether they did any useful work in London or just fooled around, wasting all his money. He couldn't voice out his thoughts with over-excited and emotional family already planning their engagement and wedding.
There were three destinations- Sydney, London and Delhi to organize functions if they had nothing particular in mind. NK and Lavanya, both wanted it Hindi style. Elders talked with their respective families and with Devyani Raizada being eldest of all, both set of parents, 'no-longer- well-versed' with Indian customs, were happy that responsibility of organizing wedding lied with Raizadas. With many relatives still living in India, both agreed for a Delhi wedding. Engagement in February with wedding date in subsequent October were okayed by groom and bride. Anjali who was very excited, felt a bit disheartened with wedding almost a year away. Raizadas were not sure about such a long period but NaLa convinced them with that it meant longer courtship period. It was common in western culture. Lavanya raised a very valid point that Givenchy venture with Louis Vuitton would also be finalized by end of September that means they could spend more time together. Arnav nodded to that argument, though none were paying attention to him.
**************
He was in his cabin after clinching another deal, instructing Aman about the follow up when Aman's mobile vibrated. Arnav was about to shout at him for interruption when Aman mouthed it was Khushi Ma'am's call. She had called to know if Arnav was free. Aman handed phone to Arnav before leaving the cabin.
"Tumse kitni baar kaha hai direct call karne ke liye. Ek baar kahi hui baat samjh nahi aati tumhe?", Arnav was pissed that Khushi still rarely dialed him directly. ("How many times did I tell you to call on my phone directly? Dont you get things at first time?")
"Bina matlab ka chillaye mat. Aapke phone par hi kia tha phele. Aapne uthaya nahi tab kia hai Amanji ko. Neeche aakar Aarav ko le jayiye. Hum bazaar ja rahe hain, ye Nisha ke saath upar aane se mana kar raha hai", Khushi spoke without a break and cut the call. If she didnt have Aarav near, she would taught his father a nice lesson for always shouting at her uselessly. ("Dont shout without reason. I dialed you first. You didnt pick then I called Aman. Come down to take Aarav. I am going to market and he is refusing to go with Nisha")
Arnav didnt even bother checking his phone and directly rushed down. He reached parking in less than 2 minutes. Aman wished he could boss him around like Khushi one day but then gave up thinking he was much better without it.
Arnav found her leaning on car door with Aarav hanging tight to her neck, clearly not in mood to go with Nisha(nanny) who was trying her level best to fool the child by promising moon and stars. Obviously the devil jumped into his father's arms as soon as he came near them. All this while, NK and La were utilizing their time inside the car. Just holding hands and exchanging blushes coz other things were not suitable to be exchanged before a kid. Arnav's eyes moved over his red riding hood. She looked like a college going girl in a white chikan kurta and blue denims, nowhere looking like mother of a one and half year old child. He glanced once at NaLa (what he liked to call them) This mental couple ll be all lovey -dovey even in mall, busy in themselves while other men will gaze, try to flirt with his innocent wife. Even guards are useless there. This was something intolerable for Arnav Singh Raizada.
He asked Nisha to go back home and told Khushi that he was joining them. Khushi surprised with his decision, dryly warned him that they were going to a mall not some high-end store of his standards. Arnav ignored her jibe and sat inside with Aarav in his lap. Khushi too sat and shut the door a bit too loud for ASR duo's comfort. She smiled at her petty revenge for the way he had shouted at her on call. "Witch", she could make out his lip movement. "Rakshas", she mouthed back and flashed all her pearly white 32 at him. Aarav remained glued to his Daddy, clueless to the ape fight between his parents who were clearly not part of human evolution.
At the shopping Mall,
Arnav was trailing behind her like an obedient husband carrying a trolley with their baby forced to sit in safe-dock. Aarav was more courageous than his Daddy and tried to rescue himself umpteenth time. He wanted to jump out and hold so many attractive things but his poor patient Daddy was following Mumma's instructions to the T. Aarav was caged. They went through 100 sections as she dumped things from here and there. Finally she bought gift for Anjali's upcoming birthday, the reason they came here in first place. Khushi was checking things in kids wear when NK came and took Aloo to buy some games that Chacha-Chachi-Aarav could play together before they went back to UK after 3 days.
Arshi were now passing through men's section. "Khushi buy a gift for my birthday too", Arnav nudged. Khushi gave him a dismissive look as she went back to her window shopping, "Aapka birthday abhi to gaya hai. Aap to birthday celebrate bhi nahi karte na?"("Your birthday was in October, a month ago. You dont like to celebrate your birthday. Forgot?")
"Par gift lene se kab mana kiya maine?" No response.("When did I refuse gift?)
"Mean woman buy me a gift! Har baar Aarav hi dega. Uski Mummy nahi degi?" ("Mean woman buy me a gift. Aarav gives it every time. His mother should also give.")
"Aapne kya diya tha Aarav ki Mummy ke birthday par?"("What did you gift on my birthday?"), she asked with raised eyebrows, hands at waist, unwittingly steering conversation to what he wanted.
Arnav grinned. "Itni pyari kiss di thi. Bhool gayi? Firse yaad dilaun? Aur uss se phele vo RED wali saree? Vaise bhi maine tumhe sabse bada gift- Aarav diya hai. Par tumne abhi tak mujhe Arushi nahi di", he whispered last part in her ears, his husky voice sending shivers down her body.
("I gave you a lovely and deep kiss. Did you forget? Wait, Do you want me to remind you again? And those RED sarees? I have given you biggest gift- Aarav. You haven't given me Arushi yet")
Jo tere sang laagi preet mohe
rooh baar baar tera naam le
ki rab se hai maangi yehi duaa
tu haathon ki lakeerien thaam le
Since I have fallen in love with you,
the soul calls you again and again.
I have asked for just this from God,
that you hold the lines of fate.
When she got her senses back, Khushi was still red but now in fury, "Stop! Stop flirting with me. Besharam insaan. Dont you dare talk to me like this. I am warning you". ("Stop! Stop flirting with me. Shameless man!! Dont you dare talk to me like this. I am warning you")
Arnav caught her pointing finger and pecked it not even caring if someone watched them, "Biwi se nahi to kya padosan se flirt karun?", he was not scared of her. ("Should I flirt with neighbor instead of wife?")
"Shut up! I m not your wife" She pulled her hand back from his grip.
"Par main to hun na tumhara husband"("But I am your husband")
"No. You are not my husband."
"Par tum to ho na, My Legally Wedded Wife"("But you are my legally wedded wife"), he chewed each word.
"NOO!"
"Par.."he grinned ("But...")
"Arghh!!!", Khushi stomped her feet and left from there.
Arnav mimicked her, stomping his feet. Khushi turned back and threw a glare at him as she walked away. He followed her with a fully loaded trolley now laughing all the way. Man! Life is so much fun with her.
Aadhi zameen, Aadha aasmaan tha
aadhi manzilein, aadha raasta tha
ik tere aane se muqammal hua sab ye
bin tere jahaan bhi bewajah tha
It was an incomplete earth, an incomplete sky,
incomplete destinations and path.
Now with your presence, they have all become complete for me,
without you, this world was without a reason for me.
**************
Khushi was sorting her files + trying to distract Aarav from touching her phone. She had tried to feed him but he was being just too headstrong. She didn't understand how Arnav managed this stubborn mule. Mothers dont need any exercise to maintain themselves, Aarav kept her on toes whole day. She was still not accustomed to his ever changing tantrums. She asked him to sit down and play with her or second option was that she ll recite a story and he will sleep. He refused both options.
"Nooooo. Call my Daddy!!!", he demanded nth time.
"Aloo Mumma ne bola na Papa aa jayenge thodi der mein" She was done with her work and took away the racing car from his hand, trying to pat him to sleep but he refused, demanding a video call with Arnav like they would do during his business trips that lasted not more than 72 hours, the maximum limit of time, Arnav could stay away from them. She was getting sure about sending him to play school as soon as he turned two. He needs to make friends and sleep on time.("Aloo Mumma told you Papa ll be home in sometime")
He was still pestering her, now crying. "Papa is on his way home, Aarav. Stop crying, He will be here in less than 30 minutes"
"NO.NO.NO", he kept throwing tantrums. Stubborn son of most stubborn man on face of earth. Khushi giving up, was about to dial Arnav again when Anjali came inside the room all concerned. Aarav became quiet. He was embarrassed that his crybaby Bua once again found him crying, throwing tantrums. He moved into Khushi's lap, trying to hide his wet face. Both women exchanged knowing smiles at his behavior. Anjali went back and Aarav started licking Khushi demanding to be fed. Khushi sighed in relief that she wont need to pump it away and proceeded to feed him.
Anjali came back and handed Khushi an artistic and beautiful sketch of her face.
"Wow!!! Thank you so much Di, bahut sundar hai. Ismein to hum original se bhi zyada khoobsurat lag rahe hain." ("Wow!! Thank you so much Di, Its so beautiful. I am looking more beautiful than I am in this")
"Waah!! Khud hi apni tarif?("Self-praising?")
"Diii!!"
"Hum mazak kar rahe hain. Aap hain hi itni sundar ki sketch mein bhi dikh raha hai. Thanks Khushiji, humare liye ye toolkit lane ke liye. Khud se to hum kabhi laate hi nahi, taalte hi rehte. Abhi kuch din phele hi humne phela banaya- Devi Maiyya ka. Pooja ghar mein rakh kar aaye hain. Hum Aarav ka full size bana rahe hain 2nd birthday ke liye." Anjali wiped her tears. ("I am joking. You are so beautiful that it can be seen even in a sketch. Thanks Khushiji for getting that sketching toolkit for me. I wouldn't have ever bought it myself. I made first sketch- goddess's face some days before. I have placed it in temple.I m planning to make Aarav's full size as his 2nd birthday gift ")
"It is really very beautiful Di, I ll get it framed. Hum dekh sakte hain jab aap banayegi Aarav wala. Last touches mein?" ("It is really very beautiful Di, I ll get it framed. Can I watch while you work on his sketch, just during finishing touches")
"Haan bilkul. Aaj koi late night meeting hai kya Chotey ki? Humne phone milaya nahi isliye. Subah office jaate waqt to kuch bataya nahi tha unhone"("Why not? Chotey has a late night meeting today? I didnt call him for same reason. He didnt mention anything while leaving for work in morning? ")
"Nahi Di, US se kuch friends aaye huye they. Unse milne gaye hain. Aapke aane se phele hi chale gaye they."("Actually Di, Some of his US friends were here, so he has gone to meet them. He had left before you came back home.")
"Kaafi der ho gayi hai. Chotey ko Aarav ke baare mein sochna chahiye. Kaise ro raha tha bacha. Hum baat karenge unse. He needs to behave responsibly"("Its late. Chotey must think about Aarav too. He was crying so much. I ll talk to him. He needs to behave responsibly")
"Di aap bekar hi pareshan ho rahi hain. Office se ghar ghar se office. Break to sabko chahiye na. Humein Amanji se pata chala to zabardasti bheja hai, ye to jaa hi nahi rahe they isse chodkar. He is best father anyone could ever get. Aur ye Maharaj to pure badmaash ho chuke hain. Jab hum nahi hote to Mummy Mummy. Ab isne dekh liya Papa ko shaam ko jaate huye, to bas ab Papa chahiye. Aap so jaiye, iske Pitaji aane hi vale honge"
("Di you are worrying uselessly. Everyone needs break from daily routine. I got to know about it from Aman. I forcibly sent him, he wasnt even ready to go leaving his beloved son. He is best father anyone could ever get. Aarav has become very naughty these days. When I am not there, he wants Mumma and now he saw Arnavji leaving so wants Daddy. Don't worry, you go and sleep, his father ll be here anytime.")
Anjali gazed at her. Khushi really loved and respected Arnav as her child's father. She desperately wanted to tell her that her brother has the potential of being world's best husband too. He was already behaving like one, its just that Khushi was not looking at that aspect. But she had promised herself that she wont interfere in their delicate relationship as husband-wife.Her siding with her brother ll only distance Khushi from both of them. Khushi has her own reasons well known to everyone.
Aarav stopped sucking and looked at his mother as he was getting instinct that she said all that about him. Khushi continued "Iske hisaab se to bas kam par jao aur kahin jao hi mat. Bade hokar sabse zyada space, privacy ye hi karega."("Now he wants us to go away only for work, nothing else. And when he ll grow up, he ll be the one demanding space and privacy"). Anjali shook her head and left the room, wishing them goodnight.
Khushi pinched his cheek lovingly. Aarav pouted and cried, "Papaaaa" when he saw Daddy at the door. Arnav heard his earnest plea and immediately came to him. Aarav jumped on him as soon as he sat on bed.
"Mera bacha", he kissed him and wiped his tears. That's the reason he didn't want to go.("My Baby"). He changed and held him while Khushi prepared the bed and trio fell in a peaceful slumber.
Family- place where life begins and love never ends.
**************
New Year's Eve,
Arnav relaxed back on recliner after completing his work. He looked at his watch, it was 10:30 and both Aarav and Khushi were still not in room. All elders were already in bed, clearly not interested in stupid New Year Celebrations. He went downstairs and found everyone in TV room watching some stupid movie. Aarav was doing something to NK's hairs and ofcourse Lavanya had flown down to enjoy with her beau. The way she clung to his wife, he doubted if she was actually into Khushi and not NK. He needs to be careful.
With this thought, he went to kitchen to grab a glass of water. He had to come back again after 5 minutes, he needed chilled water to calm his anger. Khushi was again gushing at that stupid ugly old man, whistling at his shirtless fake body, clapping enthusiastically at his hideous dance moves along with Mami. Yes, it was a Salman Khan movie - the man who was bane of his existence. He was obviously enraged seeing his wife drooling over this useless creature. Arnav drank another glass to cool his mind. He knew Khushi wont give two hoots if he asked her to stop this daydreaming session and switch off the TV or atleast change the channel.
An thought struck him out of nowhere. He got an idea that he was 100% sure will solve this problem permanently. He went out, casually asked the movie name, did basic research on the heroine, Priyanka Chopra in few minutes. He now sat down beside Akash and praised 'his favorite' Piggy Chops' sexy moves, hot body, full lips. What an amazing dancer she is! He didnt hesitate in showing off his knowledge about her films, albums and shows in middle of an ongoing movie.Soon all ears were on discussion two men were having.
TV was switched off in 5 minutes on the naked chest of that oldie and now it was, his fuming hot wife who walked to the kitchen to cool the steam off her ears. Arnav gulped at the glare she sent his way before moving out. It would have scared any other man but not him, an already jealous husband. But in hindsight he thought, it is good that things aren't normal or she would have minced the meat out of him today and murdered that heroine. But before killing her, Khushi would have pulled all her hairs. He smiled to himself and looked around to see no one beside him. Akash, NK - the cowards had left ages ago with their partners.
But this was not enough, he wanted to provoke her some more so that she pulled him out of the room with authority like Payal and Lavanya must have done with his brothers. Arnav asked Hari Prakash to bring in popcorn as he wanted to 'enjoy' New Year's Eve. He was browsing channels when he came across a dance sequence. 'Chikni Chameli' now boomed in silent hall and Arnav increased the volume and pretended to be completely glued to screen, waiting for a blast. He began counting till 10. At 5, Aarav was inside instead of popcorn or Khushi. He climbed and sat over him."Mu... solly solly", He tried to be careful with words coz no mistakes or Mumma ll eat him up.He tried to remember exact words he had to say.
"Papa, chalo Aloo ko neeni aali hai"("Papa, Come. I m sleepy"), he even tried to feign a yawn. Khushi must have taught his too.
Arnav laughed hard at that. She was so jealous!!! He switched off the TV and walked out when Aloo urgently tugged at his collar, "Chalo Papaaaaa"("Come, lets goooo"). He picked up his cute little Mumma's boy and and kissed his cheeks.
"Sab Mujhse Poochte Hain, vo Kaun Des Se Aayi. Naam?...Jalebi Bai Aha...Jalebi Bai Aha...Jalebi Baiiiii, Jalebi Bai", he hummed as he approached his fiery red Jalebi, who was standing outside the room pretending to arrange flowers in a vase. Without any warning, he swung his arm around the neck of completely unprepared Khushi and held her gently, dragging her upstairs with them, '...naam...jalebi bai..aaha....jalebi baii...jalebi baaaaiiii"
So what if they slept before 00:00 hours on a New Year but they slept together and that too without that damned Sallu!
Next morning,
It was holiday so everyone got up late. Khushi was getting ready when Arnav woke up. He came and stood behind her, gazing at her in the mirror. His hair all ruffled and elbows folded across his chest.
"Kya kar rahe ho?", she couldn't go on any longer with the way he was looking at her unblinkingly. Yesterdays' anger swooshed away with his heated gaze.("What are you doing here?")
"Tumhe dekh raha hun", he whispered huskily.("I am just watching you")
Khushi blushed, turning red despite trying hard not to. She had asked, so that he would leave, allowing her to get ready peacefully but his reply was so bold and straight forward after a long, long time. Wasn't he getting more and more uninhibited in his expressions, the good ones? Crossing their invisible boundaries every now and then. She would have objected to this reply but it was a good day and not to forget first day of a New Year, so she tried to ignore it. Her blushing visage wouldn't support her voice even if she tried to be stern.
When she started to leave, he held her hands in his, moved back and sat on bed making her stand in front of him. He loved expressing his heart nowadays, don't know why. Khushi, to his good luck, was... maybe just too shocked to resist.
tera dil banke main saath tere dhakoon
khud ko tujhse ab door na jaane doon
let me become your heart and beat inside you.
I wont let you go away from me now.
ki sang tere paaniyon sa, paaniyon sa
paaniyon sa behta rahoon
tu sunti rahe main kahaaniyaan si kehta rahoon
ki sang tere baadalon sa, baadalon sa
baadalon sa udta rahoon
tere ek ishaare pe teri or mudta rahoon
I wish to flow with you like waters...
You keep listening as I go on telling tales.
I wish to fly with you like clouds...
and turn towards you at a signal from you.
"Jab mere aise dekhne se tum sharma jaati ho na, the sweet warmth it spreads in every damn pore of my existence! I mean, I can't explain it. ITNI baar ho chuka hai par...par aisa lagta hai ki har baar bilkul naya hai, ek alag sa satisfaction, alag si khushi. Jaise sab kuch mil gaya ho.", he tried to express what he was feeling. ("When you blush at my constant gaze on you, it spreads a sweet warmth in every damn pore of my existence! I mean, I can't explain it. It has happened so many times yet it feels so new every single time. The satisfaction, the happiness it gives me! Like I have achieved everything in life.")
"To nahi mila hai kya?", she asked.(" So haven't you got everything in that?")
"Hmm...kuch bacha hai", he pretended to think.("Hmm...some thing is still missing")
"Kya?", her hands were on her waist ready to fight if that Priyanka Chopra came out of his mouth once more.("What?") She wont praise Salman agreed, but he has to stop that PC rant too.
"Tumhari hasii", he pushed her on bed and tickled her, eliciting countless giggles from a surprised Khushi. ("Your smile")
"It is more valuable than your red cheeks, shy gaze and red lips", a finger ran on her cheek and his thumb freed her lower lip from under her teeth. "Happy New Year Khushi", his brown eyes gazed into her hazel ones, locking them there. Khushi was overwhelmed like any other person would be, at such display of love, at his mesmerizing words, at their loud heartbeats that could be heard clearly even from miles.
Lost in his magical eyes, she pushed herself up and kissed his overlying cheek, wishing him "Happy New Year Arnavji"
"Khushiji", Anjali gave her a call from downstairs and their trance broke. She pushed him back and sat up pulling her hair behind her ear. "I am going to temple. You go back to sleep...", she said very sweetly and proceed to touch hairs of starry-eyed Arnav. He had clearly not recovered from the peck. But Khushi had some scores to settle. She held his hair in not so hard grip and gave them a thorough shake to remove last bit of sleep, if there was left any left in his body. "Priyanka Chopra ke fan!!"
"Ahh! KHUSHIIIII!!!!" he shrieked. She ran away giggling even before he could jump out of bed. Aarav who had seen everything, jumped to sit on his Papa's tummy and pulled at his hair just like Mumma did. The more Arnav tried to release his grip, more messy it became with a chuckling Aarav thoroughly enjoying the game of pulling reins of his horse. And this is the same boy who would gently run his fingers in his mother's soft tresses to untangle them while his mouth was busy suckling. Soon the horse got hold of bum of enthusiastically prodding rider and gave it a spank. The evil boy unaffected, bit his horse's chin, pouring all his morning drool on Daddy and gave him a victorious smile. Arnav smiled at his baby who was clapping and prattling happily like a tweety. Lunatic son of lunatic mother!
Chup hain baatein
dil kaise bayaan main karoon
tu hi keh de
wo jo baat main keh na sakoon
The talks are silent,
how do I express what's in my heart?
You only should tell me
the thing that I am not able to say.
ki sang tere paaniyon sa, paaniyon sa
paaniyon sa behta rahoon
tu sunti rahe main kahaniyaan si kehta rahoon
ki sang tere baadalon sa, baadalon sa
baadalon sa udta rahoon
tere ek ishaare pe teri or mudta rahoon
I wish to flow with you like waters...
You keep listening as I go on telling tales.
I wish to fly with you like clouds...
and turn towards you at a signal from you.
***************
NK and Lavanya's engagement was in a two days. While the couple spent all time who knows doing what, his wife didn't even have time to prepare a coffee for him.How sick! He was so pissed at just too much ignorance. Whole family was preparing like it was event of the century. Khushi behaved as if she was the wedding planner herself! She had taken two days leave for just an engagement. Who does that? They were not her brother or sister dammit that she had to plan everything to the T. But when had she ever given importance to his words. She just needs to know that he doesn't like something, she ll first do that work, leaving every other thing aside.Ever ready to irritate him.
Arnav was brooding in his cabin when his phone rang.
"Where are you?", his wife asked from other end.
"Office", he was still pissed off at coffee fiasco.
"You don't have any more meetings right?"
"So?", he was not interested in her stupid overexcited plans for others' engagement.
"COME HOME NOW", he had to move phone away from his ear lest his eardrum got punctured
"Kya hua?"("What happened?")
"YOU...YOU...Ghar aao abhi ke abhi."("Come home NOW")
"Watch your tone Khushi", he warned but she didnt reply.
"Will you tell me what is fucking wrong dammit?" he was pissed off at her attitude.
Khushi was running out of patience. She held phone away from her ear, walked out and made him listen to something that Aarav was singing. He was saying it since lunch time after Arnav had gone back to his office. "Fuc you Aman! F*** you Aman!", his words clear.
"Fuck!!", Arnav realized Aarav heard him while he was talking on Aman. "F**k you man!", he had said. Aarav a very intelligent boy, had wasted no time in adding A to man something he thought Daddy had forgotten to add. So the new anthem was "Fuck you Aman"
He obviously left for home. The scowls he got from his family were like he had taught Aarav how to pee in a public place. After that day Arnav Singh Raizada never ever swore, atleast in presence of Aarav.
PRECAP :
"They all are thinking you are single dammit!!"
"Ye humari problem nahi hai!!"("Its not my headache")
