After having spent a day with her Grandparents and Uncle Henri in France, Jeanne returned home in the evening. She had been so upset at Sirius' behaviour that she had left crying to her house in France with out even a single thought. To say that her Godfather was angry at Sirius would be understatement. He was furious. He would have killed Sirius with bare hands if Jeanne hadn't stopped him.

'But spending a day with them did cheer me up.' , Jeanne thought as she entered her house in Surrey. She went inside and changed and decided to have a coffee. She was dreading the order meeting which she had to attend at 8. She knew that she had to face Sirius sooner or later.

It was nearly 8. She stood up. It was time to leave. But before she could do anything, she heard a loud crash in her backyard. She picked up her wand and went there to investigate. Her heart was thumping loudly.

The moment she pushed the door open, several spells hit her at once. She didn't even have time to erect a shield. She fell down to her knees.

Bellatrix Lestrange was smiling. Martin was easy to take down. Now they to burn the house down and their task would be complete. Dark Lord would certainly be pleased with them.

What Bellatrix didn't notice was that Jeanne had already reached her wand. The moment she got her wand, she shot a ' Petrificus Totalus' towards him. Bellatrix ducked and saved herself from being hit. She cackled loudly," So little Martin wants to play games, doesn't she ? So let's play" and shot successive spells towards her.

They both dueled for some time when Jeanne was hit by a bone breaking curse. She fell down nearly unconscious. Bellatrix started torturing her when other death eaters set her house on fire and conjured the dark mark.

When finally Jeanne didn't react to the Cruciatus curse, Bellatrix said, " Come let's leave, She is dead."

The death eaters fled leaving Jeanne. She barely managed to keep her eyes open. She reached for her wand and pressed the rune on her wand which alerted her Godfather that she was in danger. She also managed to conjure a patronus to Albus Dumbledore and managed to say that she needed help before she collapsed.

Headmaster's Office,
Hogwarts

Sirius Black and other Order members had assembled in office except for Jean. Sirius fidgeted nervously. Where was she ? She was never late. This was very unlike her and it troubled him.

Next to him Lily and Remus also wondered the same thing.

Albus Dumbledore stood up. He said, " Thank you all for assembling here. Now that most of the members have arrived, we can ...." He stopped in middle of his sentence, when a Fox Patronus entered the room. It spoke in Jeanne's voice, "Attacked by Death Eaters, need help..."

Everyone had their wands out at once. Dumbledore said, " James, Sirius, Remus, Lily, Frank, Alice, Minerva and Emmeline head towards Jean's house." Dumbledore charmed a quill and turned it into a portkey.

The moment everyone touched it, they disappeared and reappeared at Jeanne's place. The sight that met their eyes was horrifying. Her house was burning. And dark mark stood prominently over her house.

"No, no this can't be happening. She can't be dead. " Sirius said his eyes filled with grief.

Dumbledore bent down and picked up Phoenix pendant and said," It's Jeanne's, isn't it ? " The pendant was charmed by Dumbledore himself in such a way that in case of death of its wearer it would dislodge itself and fall on to the ground. No magic could separate the pendant and its owner, as long as the owner was alive. 

They all knew that it meant Jeanne was dead. Grief weighed down heavily on their minds. They all were sad. Lily had already begun crying at loss of her best friend. They all realised that this void formed in their life due to her loss would never be filled again.
