The only way this day could get any better was if you were dying in a ditch
Aiden Acharya had no idea what to think.
He had just met the Council four hours ago and had practically confirmed they hated them already. Yamini seemed to be smiling a bit sadly, but Aru wasn't even trying to hide anything she thought of them. He could see it all. It was the way she looked them up and down with disgust, already deciding that they were pieces of trash.
"Do you mind calling Aru? Her room's opposite yours'," asked his aunt, who just happened to be Urvashi.
"Okay." Aiden agreed and went off into the hallway.
He opened the door so that it was only slightly ajar and was startled by a sleeping Aru.
"This is probably the first time she actually looks peaceful." He muttered under his breath.
She stirred. 'Shit.'
Aiden tried to go back out the door, but in his panic he accidentally bumped into it, causing Aru to shoot up out of bed.
"Who-?!" Then she saw him and her expression hardened to stone. "You. What are you doing here?"
"Um," Said Aiden intelligently. "My aunt- I mean Urvashi- sent me to get you?" He smacked himself internally for his voice cracking at the end.
"Right, and you couldn't have just knocked? Don't you have any respect for other people's privacy?"
"I do! It's just..."
"Just...? Hurry up, we don't have all day."
"I'm sorry! It's- It's-" But he couldn't finish his sentence as his tongue was tied in knots.
Aru sighed and rubbed her temples tiredly. "Why can't I just take a nap in peace without anyone interrupting me? I had to get up from my bed earlier just to meet you two overgrown trash cans."
Aiden grew hot with rage. "Trash Cans? Excuse you, that's not very nice"
"That's not very nice," She mimicked. "Who are you, my mom? In the real world, is that what you're gonna say if someone is even a little mean to you?"
If he was hot before, he was now cold with fury. Aru's face relaxed and she seemed apologetic now.
"Listen, I didn't mean-" But he cut her off.
"I suppose you would know how cruel the world is." He could see her grit her teeth and clench her fists.
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"Seeing as how you chase everyone away from you." Aru opened her mouth, but he wasn't quite done yet.
"I heard about Kara. Probably got so fed up with you that she was glad to be rid of you when she got the chance." Her face was carved from stone, unreadable and emotionless.
"Excuse you, you do not get the privilege to barge into my room, invade my privacy and talk about a sensitive topic. That's just-"
"Yo dude! Oh and, um hey. Aru, right?" Brynne asked, walking in.
"What is with everyone entering my room unannounced as if they own it?"
"Wow okay, no greeting. That's not nice."
She groaned. "And that too."
Brynne caught sight of Aiden looking guilty. "What's wrong with you?"
"Everything's wrong with him since he has no idea when to shut up!" Aru replied.
"Chill out. You're probably just overreacting." Brynne defended him.
" Just overreacting? I admit I was a bit rude. But he was insensitive" Aru crossed her arms. "Bringing up her "
"Who? Your sister who did the one right thing by-"
"How do you both even know about Kara-?"
Just then, Mini and Rudy stormed into the room and Aru went deadly silent, not saying a word.
"Everybody stop! Hands where I can see them, anything you say can and will be used against you." Mini turned to Aru. "Was that good?"
"Amazing," Aru replied, smiling even though Aiden could see the amount of pain in her eyes as well as how empty her face looked. And he hated knowing that he and Brynne caused someone to be this sad.
"Okay, first of all, no one talks about our ex-member. No one at all. Am I absolutely clear? That is a sensitive topic and unless you are inhumane you will not bring it up."
"I'm fine as long as-" Brynne started.
"Did I give you permission to speak? We only have two rules here and that's to not bring up The Ex-member or use fame to your advantage. Got it?" Brynne mutely nodded in response.
Mini looked... strangely threatening, wielding her hand sanitizer with a fierce look in her eyes. Aru bit back a smile since now really wasn't the time to start giggling hysterically.
"Yeah, so, I don't mean to intrude or anything, but who is this 'Ex-Member'? They sound strangely ominous." Rudy asked, because of course he understood social cues perfectly.
"Dude. She just said not to bring up the Ex-Member" Brynne nudged him helpfully.
"You just brought up the Ex-Member by saying that!" Rudy cried indignantly, talking about the Ex-Member yet again.
"Shut up Rudy!" Aiden groaned. "You're not helping anyone here."
Aru stormed out, done with all the idiocy. Mini sighed and then ran after her. Brynne and Aiden looked at Rudy.
"Oh! Is the Ex-member Kara?" He snapped his fingers, the gears in his head finally clicking.
"Well, aren't you a genius! Einstein would be jealous!" Brynne yelled, making mind-explosion motions with her hand. And then she promptly stomped out with Aiden following. Rudy ran after them.
Wasn't the day just going so well?
A/N:
Loife: It's been a full two months since me and Archivist updated this, haha. I don't really have an explanation for that, but I do have an explanation for why an update won't be coming for a long time.
Loife: Midterms. Isn't that just FUN?
Loife: Maybe after September? I'm not sure, let's just see.
Loife: Okay that's all. Thanks for understanding!
Archivist: But this is only the beginning....
(Actually it's more half way to the middle but I just wanted to butt in and add something)
Thank you to all you wonderful, beautiful readers for voting and commenting! It really made my day and got me the motivation to actually sit down and write.
