Chapter 24 - Seance gone wrong
Yūrei's plan was made with good intentions but... Not everyone else shared those same good intentions.

"This is stupid." Jay crossed their arms, as they walked into the dining hall with Daiko.
"I'll admit, it's a little odd but they're clearly trying their best." Daiko sighed,"They've been on their own this entire time."
"Still." Jay pointed.
"We just need to give them a chance." Stevie slid a cup of coffee over to Jay.
"You too?" Jay raised a brow.
"I'm willing to give them a chance." She shrugged.
"What about you?" Jay turned to Jeff and Akira.
"Eh, might as well." Jeff shrugged.
"Seriously?" Jay blinked.
"Do we have another option?" Akira looked up,"Other than not going, of course."
"W-well, not really but-"
"Then it's settled, we're going." Stevie took her coffee with her and left the dining hall.
"Oi! Wait up!" Scott chased after her, dragging Sancia with him, Sheep close behind.
"What an idiot." Jay sighed, following the other three,"Come on then, Dai."
"Oh, I am." Daiko walked after Jay.
Eventually, they all made it to the gym. The lights were dim, the only lights were from many candles in a circle. Yūrei had drawn a circle with white chalk and was sat with their legs in a basket. Everyone, even Ash, had sat down in the same potion.
"Now, everyone close your eyes."
"Do I have to? I have trust issues." Akira told them.
"Just dae it." Scott nudged her.
"Okay, okay." Akira copied the others.
"Now, who are we going to summon today?" Yūrei asked.
"C-can we bring Kira here?" Ash asked slowly.
"Eh, I suppose so." Jay shrugged.
"Now, everyone, concentrate all your thoughts on Kirari." Yūrei informed them,"Whatever you do, don't open your eyes."
Everyone was quiet as they heard Yūrei begin to chant. They were all focused until... The candles went out. Was this meant to happen? They were scared to check. Then they heard a scream and... Struggling?
"Y-yūrei?" Sancia slowly opened her eyes but couldn't see anything.
All of a sudden, the lights switched back on... And their worst fear became a reality. Yūrei was dead, their body strung up, hanging from the ceiling. They were clinging onto life but unconscious, they must've hit their head on the ceiling.
"H-hang on, we need to get them down." Stevie quickly stood up.
As if on cue, they all began to smell something... Odd.
"Burning." Jay looked around them all.
"There!" Daiko pointed to the rope holding Yūrei, it was on fire.
"Hang on, I'll get ya!" Scott rose to his feet and ran to catch Yūrei but...
Thud! He was too late and their distant friend had passed away. Yūrei Kitsune, the Ultimate Medium, was so close to being saved but... They were now dead.
"Ooh, well done on this one!" Monokuma grinned,"Is that a trap, I see?"
"Oh, when ah get ma hands on the yin who's controlling you-" Scott took a step forward.
"Eep!" Monokuma jumped and threw the file at their feet before disappearing.
"Huh, that's... Odd. He doesn't usually react like that." Sancia fiddled with her sleeves.
"Yeah, something's up with him and I don't like it." Stevie shook her head, picking up the file.
"Read it!" Akira looked up at her.
"The victim is Yūrei Kitsune, the Ultimate Medium. Their body was found in the Gym and they died at 9:05 am. No BDA was played because everyone was already gathered in the gym. There are markings on Yūrei's neck from being pulled strongly by a rope and there is damage to the back of their skull. Their cause of death though was a broken neck from falling." Stevie read out slowly.
"Is it weird that I'm numb to this?" Jeff asked as he bent down and began examining the body.
"Why are y-you so good at this?" Sancia questioned.
"My younger sister is a pathologist." Jeff explained,"She works as a Coroner's assistant and she told me about it sometimes."
"You have a sister?" Daiko blinked.
"We're getting sidetracked." Jay crossed their arms.
"Well, the autopsy given by Monokuma once again checks out... However, I have found something." Jeff held up something.
"A... Scrap of paper?" Akira raised a brow.
"All it says is 'I know what you did'." Jeff shook their head,"There's a small 'S' on it too."
"The heck does that mean?" Ash looked around.
"Obviously Yūrei knew something that we didn't." Stevie sighed.
"And someone with an 'S' is their name wrote it." Akira nodded.
"Plus, there's the rope system. Who would know how to make that?" Daiko asked.
"Hurry up!" Monokuma called over the speaker,"Get to the trial grounds!"
"B-but we've barely done any investigating!" Sancia shouted.
"I don't care!" Monokuma retorted.
"Let's get this done wae." Scott sighed.
And with that, all of the remaining students headed towards the elevator. Another trial. Great...
