Chapter 22 - Teamwork?

Another day, another floor open. Doesn't that sound fun?

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Jay was still locked in their room. And... Then came a knock.

"Yes?" Jay called.

There was some shuffling noises as Jay shoved some drawings under their bed.

"Hey, uh, it's me again." Daiko called back to them.

"Come in." Jay told him.

Daiko pushed open the door but lingered in the doorway. He... Didn't want to come in.

"Hi." Jay sat on their bed, a few papers sticking out from underneath.

"I know it's a dumb question but... Would you like to walk with me to breakfast." He asked slowly.

Jay shrugged,"Sure."

"Thanks." Daiko smiled softly, holding open the door for them.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

"Good morning.." Daiko tried to be cheery, looking around at the other three who were scattered around the dining hall.

"Good morning." Jay yawned, blinking.

"Ah, good morning to you both." Jeff nodded, sipping his coffee.

"Morning." Jay responded.

Jeff smiled as Akira grabbed onto their arm. Stevie was also there, cutting some fruit. Jay sat down, pulled out their pocket notebook and started drawing. Everything was silent in the dining hall until...

"Good morning tae ye all!" Scott entered the room.

"Here comes the neighborhood ginger." Jay sighed.

"Any minute noo and that bastard of a headmaster will be here." Scott sat down.

"Mhm." Jay nodded.

"I heard my name?" Monokuma appeared.

"And there goes the crackhead that I see each morning." Jay said conversationally.

Monokuma rolled his eyes,"Ignoring you, the fourth floor is now... Open!"

"Yay." Stevie let out an unimpressed cheer.

"Great." Jay spoke flatly.

"Don't sound so disappointed, it's great!" Monokuma grinned.

"Listen, bitch. My animals kept me up all night, I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm hungry. I have a right to sound disappointed." Jay pointed.

"Then get some coffee, grab a snack and get moving." Monokuma shrugged.

"I think I'll stay in my room, thanks." Jay shook their head.

"Aw, come on. It would help to get to know what's upstairs." Daiko told them.

Jay sighed,"I'm tired."

"I'll carry you." He stated.

"No offense, mate but I think you'll drop 'em." Scott chuckled.

"I have to side with the annoying guy on this one." Jay said,"I'm a fucking stick but I'm heavier than I look."

"Annoying?" Scott blinked.

"Sorry, you're not annoying. You're your own special snowflake." Jay spoke flatly.

"That's better." Scott pointed.

Jay snorted.

"What's so funny?" Scott looked around as Stevie slid a cup of coffee in front of Jay.

"Nothing, Scott. Don't worry." She assured him.

"Thank you." Jay sipped their coffee, looking a bit less 'I-just-woke-up-and-I'm-cranky-as-fuck'.

"You're welcome." She nodded.

Jay drained the mug within a matter of seconds and placed it down on the table, contented.

"Now will you explore with us?" Akira tilted her head.

"Maybe." Jay shrugged.

"Pretty please?" Daiko asked.

"Hm..." Jay blinked,"Maybe."

"They arn'ae goin' tae give ye an answer." Scott shrugged.

"He's right." Jay nodded.

"Heh, sucks tae be you, Dai." Scott smirked.

"Fine then, I'll explore without you." Daiko gave up, walking out.

"Oi! Wait for me!" Scott ran after him.

Jay watched them, unimpressed.

"Idiots." Stevie chuckled.

"Idiots." Jay agreed.

"You want a snack?" Stevie asked.

"Yes, please." Jay nodded.

"Anything in particular?" She raised a brow.

"Not really." They shook their head.

"Well, I have this." Stevie grabbed a plate with various fruits that she'd cut.

Jay gave a tiny smile,"I'd love some, thanks."

Stevie smiled, sitting the plate on the table in front of Jay. Jay snuck a piece of strawberry before continuing sketching as Stevie began eating the grapes and Jeff snatched the apple slices. Jay hummed quietly as they sketched and it took a while before Akira wandered off to investigate, leaving the other three in the dining hall.

"Bye." Jay called after her.

They could hear a faint,"Bye bye!"

Jay chuckled and Stevie smiled, leaning back against her chair.

"So..." Jay paused their drawing.

"So?" Jeff raised a brow.

"I'm not good at conversation." Jay explained.

"Me either." Jeff sighed,"Well, would you three like to investigate once you're done?"

Jay sighed,"I guess we have to eventually."

"It is inevitable." Jeff nodded.

"It is." Jay agreed, albeit a bit hesitantly.

"Well then." Stevie stood up,"I'm ready when you are."

"I'm not ready whatsoever, but I never will be, so let's go anyways." Jay shrugged.

"Well, let's go." Jeff stood up and started walking.

Jay followed them, pushing their worries to the back of their mind. The three of them walked towards the stairs, slowly climbing when they reached them.

"Where should we go first?" Jay asked.

"There seems to be a chemistry lab, let's go there." Jeff pointed.

"Alright." Jay nodded.

When the trio entered, Akira was already inside and was searching through the cabinets.

"Hi, Akira." Jay called.

"Hiya!" She turned, chemicals in hand.

"Uh, maybe you should put those down." Stevie suggested.

"Yeah, that looks dangerous." Jay agreed.

"Dangerous is my middle name." Akira shrugged.

"That's cheerful." Jay chuckled.

"And the truth." Jeff sighed.

"Really?" Jay looked between the two,"Huh, you learn something new every day."

"She sets things on fire. All the time." Jeff pointed out.

"Yeah, I think I caught that." Jay chuckled,"I have a psychotic pyromaniac sister who you'd love."

"Ooh, I'd love to meet her!" Akira smiled.

"Maybe if we get out of here, you will." Stevie chuckled softly.

"Nah, you won't love to meet her. She uses blackmail." Jay frowned.

"Been there, done that, got the promotion." Jeff rolled their eyes.

Jay gave him a look,"Okay, then... She also threw a candle at my cousin once."

"Your cousin would probably get along with my favourite older brother." Akira nodded slowly.

Jay shrugged,"Maybe."

"Well, if he was still with us." Akira bit her lip,"Alas, time moves on."

Jay blinked,"What happened?"

"House fire." Akira sighed,"That I caused."

Jay shrugged,"It happens, I guess. Candle has set the house on fire multiple times."

"Were you put in an orphanage afterwards?" Akira asked quietly before shaking her head,"Ignore that! Anyways, all the chemicals are organised in these cabinets. One for deadly poisons, one for medicines and another for proteins and stuff."

"Why are there- You know what? I don't want to know." Jay sighed.

"I say we go check somewhere else." Stevie nodded slowly.

"Okay then." Jay edged towards the door.

"Bye!" Akira waved.

"Bye." Jay nodded.

"Where now?" Jeff asked as they left.

Jay shrugged,"You choose."

"There seems to be a large room over that way." Jeff pointed to an elegant-looking door.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

"Ooh, a music room!" Stevie smiled as they walked in.

Yūrei appeared to be sat at a grand piano that was sat on a stage.

Jay walked in, her eyebrows raised,"Hm, interesting."

"Salutations." Yūrei gave them a small nod.

"Hi." Jay waved.

Yūrei nodded again as Jeff began pressing piano keys.

"Do refrain from doing that." Yūrei sighed.

Jay chuckled,"I have a cousin that'd live this room."

"Interesting." Yūrei nodded,"I'm very fond of the piano."

Jay shrugged,"I'm not a usually musical person."

"I play the trombone." Stevie raised her hand.

Yūrei blinked,"Of course you do."

"Interesting." Jay nodded.

"It's very fun." Stevie told them.

"I'll take your word for it and stick to drawing. I have little to no musical talent." Jay chuckled, however her eyes slightly slid to the side, suggesting that she was lying.

"Me either." Jeff shrugged, picking up on Jay's hint but not pressing them on it.

Jay nodded slightly.

"Well, there doesn't seem to be much in terms of clues in here." Jeff sighed.

"To the next room?" Jay raised a brow.

"To the next room." Stevie nodded.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

"Ooh." Jay poked her head into the room.

"So many desks." Stevie looked around,"And desk plants."

"The only other place I've seen so many desks is in my mum's office." Jay stated.

"Guys, I think I found a clue." Jeff held up a photograph that he found on a desk.

"A clue to what?" Jay asked, raising a brow.

"Well, I'm not sure but.." Jeff trailed off, showing the photograph.

It was Akira, Daiko and Ray, all having fun.

Jay pursed her lips,"Hm."

"I see." Stevie nodded slowly.

"I have a feeling that it was planted." Jay told them.

"It can't be real." Stevie shook her head.

Jay out their hands on their hips,"Can we leave?"

"Of course." Jeff nodded.

"Where are we going next?" Jay raised a brow.

"All that's left is the Headmaster's Office but it's locked and we can't break school property or pick the lock." Jeff explained.

"I guess our exploring spree is over then." Jay spoke flatly.

"I suppose you're right." Jeff sighed.

"I'm going back to my room." Jay stated.

"Bye!" Stevie waved.

"Bye." Jay walked out of the room.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

"Yo, Monokuma. You in here?" Ray asked as he floated in.

"Oi! The door is locked for a reason!" He pointed.

"But why? So you can secretly kiss pictures of real bears so your lonely ass doesn't feel lonely?"

"No?" Monokuma raised a confused brow,"It's because this room contains many classified files."

"I'm so ghost, so what would I do?" Ray asked 'innocently'.

"You're a wild card, Ray." Monokuma shrugged,"Who knows what you could do."

"I'll take that as a compliment." Ray chuckled.

"Do as you wish." Monokuma shrugged,"Just don't mess with my stuff."

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Jay returned to their room and stuffed all their drawings into and empty closet before sitting on their bed, mentally going over their options. They thought about the music room again.

"No, I haven't played in..." They tried counting on their fingers,"I don't have enough fingers for that."

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Kirari was making some jewellery, she didn't plan on doing much.

"Hey~" Ray began.

"Don't." Kirari shot him a glare.

"Temper, temper." He hummed,"What're you doing?"

"The usual, making jewellery." Kirari sighed.

"But like, who's going to wear it? Us?" Ray raised a brow.

"Well, that was the plan."

"No thanks, I'm already kitted out." Ray shook his head.

"You are the last person I'd want to make more jewellery for." Kirari crossed her arms.

"This is great entertainment." Scorpius nodded, her and Crystal standing at a safe distance.

"Oh, definitely!" Crystal took a bite of her popcorn.
