Chapter 15 - Exploration again
Right, it's time to explore the third floor! Time to find some more interesting places to murder- I mean, 'hang out' with our fellow classmates. How lovely!
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
"Race ya to the top of the stairs?" Stevie turned to them.
"Depends." Ray sighed.
"C'mon, it'll be fun." She hummed.
"Alright, fine. As long as I don't loose my ankles." Ray said over-dramatically..
"I promise you won't." Stevie began to run.
"I doubt it, but ok." Ray sighed, lightly jogging up the stairs.
"Why would you ever doubt me?" She asked.
"My friend said that to me right before my third apartment blew up..." Ray replied.
"My name isn't Akira." Stevie pointed.
"It wasn't Akira. It was Jared. He's dead, I shot him. But that aside, I have several trust issues, Jared being one of the many reasons I have them." Ray shrugged.
"Well, I'm a very trustworthy person." Stevie landed at the top of the stairs.
"True, but I'm not. I don't trust myself, is the real problem." Ray admitted, arriving at the top.
"I trust you." Stevie told him.
Ray stayed quiet, wanting to say something between,"Aw, thanks!" And,"That's a big mistake."
All Stevie could think was,"Shit, did I go and make this awkward?"
"Anyways, that aside, let's go explore!" Ray spoke, breaking the awkward silence.
"Y-yeah, let's go this way." Stevie pointed.
"Alright." Ray grinned.
They soon came across a large room that Jeff was examining. There was a big machine sort of thing in the centre.
"Where and what is this?" Ray asked.
"Physics lab." She shrugged.
"Yo, we can blow shit up now!" Ray grinned.
"It appears that all the more dangerous stuff has been removed." Jeff shrugged.
"Dang, now I can't make a love potion!" Ray sighed over-dramatically.
"Not sure if that's physics, but alright." Jeff chuckled.
"Well, technically if you could put magic in any other category it would be physics." He pointed out.
"Nevermind magic, what the heck is this?" Stevie gestured to the machine.
"A time machine!" Monokuma popped up.
"Wait, wha-"
"Yeppers!" He grinned.
"Alrighty then... Can we time loop to see the previous murders live action? I wanna hear out classmates last words." Ray asked.
"Nope, sadly it only takes you back five seconds." Monokuma shook his head.
"Then what use is it?" Ray grumbled.
Monokuma laughed,"Just kidding, it's my air purifier!"
"I don't like you." Ray stated.
"The feelings mutual, bestie." Monokuma grinned.
"What gives you the need to be unpleasant all the time?" Ray asked.
"I just love seeing the despair on all of your little faces." Monokuma hummed.
"It isn't despair, tis annoyance. Get it right, Teddy McNoonegivesafuck." Ray sighed.
"You're loosing your touch, Ray Ray?" Monokuma disappeared.
"Ray Ray...? J'espère que est enfoiré meurt dans in trou." Ray cursed in French.
"One day he will." Stevie sighed.
"Stevie, Jay, can I trust you two?" Ray asked suddenly.
"Of course you can." Stevie told him.
Jeff nodded, continuing to look over the supposed air purifier.
"Well, I have a theory that might end up being the cause of my death. I don't believe in magic, right? So when I saw that bear, I immediately knew it was a robot. Here's the problem, though. Someone must've needed to code it to be personalised for all of us. Meaning someone who knows us well enough must've coded the robot. Do you see what I'm getting at?" Ray looked between them both.
Jeff nodded, raising a brow,"You're posing a theory that there is a traitor among us, yes?"
"Well, either that or someone was watching us before the school, and still is. The first one makes more sense, though." Ray nodded.
"And more likely." Stevie agreed.
"Yup, that's another reason why I wanted to go back in time. We could follow the people who were killed to see if they were the Mastermind. But that should be impossible... Right? No one dead can control the magic bear." Ray looked around.
"Unless they're a ghost." Stevie shrugged.
"Eh, I doubt it. Anyways, assuming one of you guys aren't maniacal geniuses like myself, where shall we go next?" Ray asked them.
"There's not many rooms up here but there is one along the corridor." Jeff pointed.
"Alrighty, then. That's where I'm going!" Ray announced.
"I'll come too!" Stevie told him.
The pair of them proceeded to walk out of the physics lab, leaving Jeff alone and heading to the room at the end of the hall.
"So... This is the art room?" Stevie asked, looking around.
"I would suppose so. It seems like a very organized room despite it being covered with splattered paint."
"The artwork looks like it's been drawn by children." Stevie pointed out, picking something off the ground.
"Maybe it has a more in-depth meaning but they got children to draw it so we couldn't figure out what it is." Ray evaluated a picture.
"Ray, do you ever remember posing for a picture like this?" Stevie asked, holding out what she picked up.
A photograph. One of Ray, Scott and Crystal together.
"Not at all. That said, even if I did I wouldn't remember. You can see how much I don't give a shit about them." Ray's eyes widened in confusion.
"Give it here!" Monokuma snatched the photo from her.
Ray's reflexes kicked in, him immediately snatching it back and reaching for his knife but then realising it was only Monokuma.
"Explain."
"It's my picture!" Monokuma disappeared.
"What the hell?" Ray asked, extremely confused.
There were muffled voices coming from the back of the room.
"Huh?" Stevie looked up.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Jay was in their room, trying to calm the animals, to which a rabbit had joined.
"At this rate, they'll be an army of them." They scowled.
Monokuma then appeared behind them, suddenly clapping his hands.
"Wh-" Jay yelped, falling onto their bed,"Oh. You."
"Hiya, Jay." Monokuma waved his paw.
"What do you want?" They asked.
"To give you a gift!" Monokuma grinned.
"Oh no.."
"The effects should set in quite soon." Monokuma checked his imaginary watch,"I'm giving you a motive early, you should be happy."
Jay frowned,"What did you do to me?"
"Just gave you a little illness, nothing major." Monokuma shrugged.
"You know, when you say 'nothing major', it makes me feel like I'm gonna die." Jay told him.
"What's the fun in that?" Monokuma asked as Terishi walked in.
Jay frowned again as Terishi strolled in.
"The heck is going on?" Terishi blinked.
"They're your problem now." Monokuma disappeared.
"Oh-hi-" Jay paused as the heat rose to their cheeks and they cursed under their breath.
"Jay, you good? You're all red." Terishi pointed out.
"Erm- Yes." Jay nodded.
"I'll just, uh, go get you some water anyways." Terishi began to slowly back away.
"That-" Jay inhaled, trying to get a hold of themselves,"Would be great."
Terishi nodded slowly as she left. Jay was acting... Sort of strange but she couldn't put her finger on it.
"Next time I see that goddamn bear, I'm wringing his neck." Jay swore.
It took a few minutes but Terishi returned with a glass of water while Jay was sat on their bed.
"Oh-hi-" Their face went completely red again and it took all their willpower not to curse.
Terishi nodded, sat down the glass on the bedside table and picked up the cat.
"I gave her a name." Jay said, trying to start a conversation.
"Hm?" Terishi raised a brow.
"I named her Coda. It's a musical term." Jay informed her,"It means tail and, uhm... I've only made this awkward, haven't I?"
"Heh, a little." Terishi chuckled.
Jay stared at the ground for a minute, fidgeting with their hands,"So..."
"Drink." Terishi pointed.
"Oh-Yeah-The water." Jay picked up the glass and took a sip, embarrassed.
"Did MonoBear do anything to you?" Terishi asked, sitting on the bed.
Jay blinked,"Possibly. Probably, actually."
"I see." Terishi nodded slowly.
"Hm..." Jay stared at the floor again.
"And you got a rabbit?"
"Oh... Yeah." Jay nodded.
The rabbit was currently chewing a book and Terishi giggled.
"And it's eating your book."
"Uh... Yeah." Jay walked over and picked the rabbit up, though it held fast to the book.
"C'mon bunny, let it go." Terishi hummed.
The book split in two and Jay sighed,"That was my dictionary."
"How will you learn what words mean now?" Terishi asked.
"Wh- I KNOW WHAT WORDS MEAN!" Jay protested, their face bright red.
"I know, I know." Terishi hummed.
Jay sighed and sat back on the bed. Terishi smiled and held out her hands, she wanted to hold the bunny. The bunny bit her and Jay snickered.
"Jokes on you, I feel no pain." Terishi rolled her eyes.
"Bitch." Jay whispered quietly.
Terishi gasped dramatically,"How dareth you?!"
Jay gave a tiny smile and their eyes sparkled.
"Hmph." Terishi crossed her arms.
"Let's go exploring."
"Alright then." Terishi stood up and walked towards the door.
The pair of them walked towards the stairs.
Jay stared up the stairs,"Wonder what'll be up there?"
"Maybe something interesting?" Terishi shrugged.
"I hope so. Come on!" Jay grabbed Terishi's hand and raced up the stairs, dragging her along before releasing her hand; her face red,"Oh, uhm, yeah, uh-"
Terishi had frozen, her brain unable to comprehend what just happened.
"Just- Shut up and go!" They shoved Terishi forward.
"Going, going." Terishi nodded slowly.
"Which room first?" Jay asked, trying to forget what just happened.
"Uh, this one." Terishi nodded towards a room.
They both approached the room at the end of the hall.
"Right." Terishi sighed, opening the door,"Oh, an art room."
"Art!" Jay sang, staring excitedly at all of the art supplies.
"Someone's happy." Terishi hummed.
"Maybe~" Jay murmured in a sing-song voice, their eyes shining.
"That's good." Terishi nodded.
"Hm... Where do we go next?" Jay asked.
"Well, there's a room at the back." Terishi pointed to the back of the art room.
"Let's go then!" Jay ran towards the door.
"Okay." Jay sighed, following them.
"Uhm... Wow? Yes? Wow? Maybe wow?" Jay looked around.
"Get back here!" Scott chased after Sheep.
Jay watched, blinking,"Guess we're not alone then.
"Ah!" Scott jumped, noticing them both.
"Hi, I'm Jay." They waved.
"Aye, I know ya. You're the artist." He pointed.
Ray walked in, followed by Stevie who asked,"Who is it?"
"Scott and... Jay? Oh, hey! I haven't seen you in a while." Ray nodded.
"Hi." Jay blinked, unimpressed.
"I have a dug." Scott held up Sheep.
"Ooh, what's their name?" Ray asked.
"Sheep."
"Where did you get them from?"
"Weird bear appeared wae 'em so he's mine now."
"Great." Jay crossed their arms,"I have an owl, a cat, a weasel and a rabbit, all of which love destroying my property."
"The rabbit bit me." Terishi grumbled.
"Yeah." Jay gave her a smile,"That was funny."
"Was not!" Terishi pointed.
Jay's smile widened, her eyes sparkled with amusement and another, slightly more guarded expression.
"Was, too!" She shoved Terishi playfully.
"Falsehood." Terishi shoved her back.
Jay giggled,"Whatever helps you sleep at night."
"Jokes on you, I have my medication for that." Stevie shrugged.
"You have a drug for everything, don't you?" Ray chuckled.
"Yeah, we both do." Terishi nodded,"Prescribed, of course."
"Of course." Jay spoke, staring at Terishi with a disbelieving gaze.
"Anywho, I need to take care of something. You guys enjoy yourselves!" Ray grinned, running out.
"Hey, don't leave me wae the lovebirds!" Scott quickly walked out with Sheep.
Jay turned bright red,"What-"
"Lovebirds?" Terishi blinked.
"Idon'tknowwhatthey'retalkingabout!" Jay said quickly.
Terishi paused, trying to work out what Jay said,"Yeah, me either."
"Yeah.." Jay stared pointedly at the floor, tapping their foot.
"I mean, I wouldn't mind that." Terishi spoke quietly, pulling her mask over her face.
"Hm?" Jay asked, not hearing her well enough to make out the words.
"Nothing!"
"Okay..." There was an awkward silence.
Terishi just sat there, playing with her fingers.
"Uh- Let's keep exploring." Jay suggested.
"Yeah.." Terishi nodded slowly as the pair walked out.
The pair of them walked until they reached a dorm.
"Woah! A classroom!" Jay yelped, peeking her head in.
"There are classrooms on all the floors, Jay." She told them.
"Uh- Really?" Jay gave Terishi a curious glance.
"Mhm, but there's nothing in them." Terishi shrugged.
"Huh, who woulda thunk it?" Jay looked around.
"I mean, other than the plated windows, they all look the same. Same wallpaper, blackboard, monitors for Monokuma.." Terishi listed.
"I'd rather not talk about that bear." Jay shook their head.
"Let's get going then." Terishi nodded and walked out.
"Okay!"
The pair of them then set off for the last room.
Jay opened the door,"And it's a lab. Cool. Science. I like science."
"Physics, to be precise." Jeff poke his head up from behind the large machine.
Jay jumped,"Wh-"
"Ah, sorry. Me and quite recently Yūrei, have been examining the air purifier." Jeff explained.
"You nearly gave me a heart attack!" Jay pointed.
"Apologies." Yūrei spoke up.
"Mmm." Jay looked unimpressed.
"Well, we haven't checked the backroom so if you and Teri want..." Jeff trailed off.
"Sure. C'mon Teri." Jay nodded.
Terishi causally followed Jay to the backroom of the physics lab. Jay practically dragged Terishi to the backroom, trying not the blush at the contact.
"Okay, what's in here?" They peeked inside.
"I can't really see, it's dark." Terishi shrugged.
Jay nodded,"I'm going to the bathroom so uh, bye."
"Bye." Terishi waved.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Ray arrived at his dorm room, deep in thought.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Jay went to the communal bathroom, did her business and washed their hands. A strand of their blond, curly hair fell into their face and they brushed it away from their eyes, looking into the mirror. They stared at themselve in the mirror and sighed.
"That goddamn, motherfucking bear."
"You like?" He asked.
Jay yelped and spun around, glaring at the bear,"What the fuck did you do?!"
"Gave you an illness, like I said before, the Despair Disease!" Monokuma hummed,"I gave you the strain called the Obsession Disease."
Jay frowned,"How do I turn it off?"
"Well, someone has to die." He shrugged.
"Of course they do." Jay grumbled, crossing their arms,"You are the worst being in existence."
"I mean, now you're obsessed with our local shining star." Monokuma grinned.
"Fuck you."
Monokuma just laughed as he disappeared.
"I can't go out like this." Jay mumbled,"I hate that infernal bear..."
