Chapter 6 - Blackout
Stevie hadn't slept that night, she'd spent the whole rest of the night curled up in front of her door. She thought Monoyagi appeared once like usual but she wasn't really paying attention.
What brought her out of her frozen-like state was a knock at her door which caused her to jump and back away from the door.
"Stevie? You in there?"
Ray. Stevie let out a small sigh of relief as she opened the door to see him in front of her, a wave of calmness flowing over her.
"Ray, I-"
"Stevie, did you sleep alright?" Ray asked her, tilting his head to the side,"You look, well... Exhausted."
"You can't say anything, I heard you telling Akira how little you sleep." Stevie shook her head.
"The motive's stressing you out, isn't is?" Ray crossed his arms.
Stevie hated how he could read her so well. Of course the motive stressed her but that wasn't why she'd stayed up all night.
"Y-yeah." Stevie nodded.
Ray sighed,"Come on then, let's go make breakfast. That makes you happy, right?"
Stevie smiled slightly and nodded as Ray lead her back towards the cafeteria. Right. Stay calm. Nothing's going to happen.
It was fine. They were making breakfast, just like they'd done the previous days.
"So Stevie, what do you think we should do for drinks?" Ray asked, kitchen knife in hand,"Water? Orange juice? Coffee?"
"Well, I'd say a safe bet is just water and-" Stevie flinched back, noticing the knife.
The pair were silent. Ray noticed, didn't he? Stevie prayed he hadn't...
"Y-yeah, water." Stevie tried continuing.
"Stevie. You flinched." Ray set down the knife, crossing his arms,"Did something happen last night?"
"W-what?"
"You flinched when you saw the knife." Ray stated.
"I-I didn't-"
"Stevie." Ray's glare sharpened,"Don't. Lie. To. Me."
Stevie could feel herself starting to shake, her breath becoming unsteady. Don't cry. Don't c-cry...
Stevie was taken aback as Ray pulled her into a hug. He didn't seem like the type but... She didn't complain as a few stray tears fell from her eyes.
"Look, I won't force you to tell me what happened." Ray began,"But so help me, if someone hurt you, I'll make sure they pay."
"Just promise me you won't kill anyone." Stevie pleaded as she rested against his shoulder.
"Ma chére, I don't make promises." Ray sighed.
"Ray."
"I'll... I'll see, okay?" He slowly pulled back.
Stevie rubbed her eyes as Ash and Kirari walked in, looking shocked.
"Guys, Jay just got taken." Kirari shook her head as Ash sat down.
"I mean, at least Jeff won't be arguing with her anymore." Ray shrugged.
"Ray." She nudged him with her elbow.
"What? I'm right." Ray began setting out the plates.
Stevie shook her head as the remaining students walked in, their numbers were lowering by the day and she hated it.
She ate her breakfast slowly, already feeling a lack of motivation. By the time she'd finished her breakfast, everyone else had done.
Stevie sighed and took her plate to the sink, washing it clean along with any other dishes that had been left behind. She looked up at the clock.
Jeez, ten o'clock already? Why did they let her stay that long? Stevie shook her head and put away the dishes when she heard a crash from outside.
Then the door creaked open and before she could turn around to see who was behind her... Smack!
She was hit over the head and stumbled back, falling to the ground. Her vision grew blurry and darkened... She fell unconscious, not knowing if she'd wake up again.
