Chapter 18 - More Exploration

Stevie yawned as she woke up in her room, trying her best to ignore the feeling of impending doom as she got ready for the day and left her room. It was just.. Routine, waking up in this school every morning. When she walked into the corridor, she was greeted by Ray.

"Hey, Stevie. Did you sleep well?" Ray asked gently.

"Mhm, what about you?" Stevie tilted her head.

"Restless, but fine." He replied.

"Want to make breakfast with me?"

"Sure." Ray shrugged.

"Yes!" Stevie smiled, starting to walk.

Ray followed closely behind her as Stevie skipped into the kitchen and began searching through the cupboards.

"Any preference, Ray?" Stevie asked.

"Not really." Ray chuckled,"I'm a simple man with simple needs."

"Hm." Stevie began to think, not sure what to really make.

"We could make people waffles. People like waffles." He suggested.

"We're making waffles." Stevie nodded.

"Alright." Ray walked over to her.

Stevie smiled as they began to make breakfast together. Stevie gathering ingredients as Ray rounded up the utensils.

"Do you ever wonder what Monoyagi gets out of this?" Ray questioned.

"Sometimes." Stevie shrugged.

She always wondered what Monoyagi wanted. She knew there was a Mastermind, with at least some influence over Monoyagi although.. She seemed to be so lifelike for a robot.

"Does she enjoy this?" He raised a brow.

"I don't know." Stevie sighed.

"Ah well. It actually just occurred to me that I haven't eaten food for like two days." Ray practically had a lightbulb over his head.

Stevie froze and slowly lowered the things she was holding,"You... What?"

Ray froze in place,"I mean, I ate a lot yesterday! Hmm, yes!"

"Sit your ass down." She pointed.

Ray groaned as he sat down.

"Good." Stevie sighed,"I'll finish this and then you're eating it."

Stevie couldn't believe she hadn't noticed... Her and Ray almost always made food together and they all ate together. How had she not noticed him not eating?!

"I'm not eating anything, but I'll pretend to eat if it makes you happy." Ray shrugged.

"You have to eat at least something." Stevie told him.

"Humans can go for weeks without food. Plus, I'm built above average so I give myself a month." Ray boasted jokingly.

"Ray." Stevie gave him a look.

"Stevie?" Ray asked, giving her an 'innocent' grin.

"If you don't eat, I'm not going to eat." She crossed her arms.

"You- shit. Well played, ma chère." Ray hissed, grabbing an apple.

"I'm smarter than I look." She hummed, setting the waffles on plates.

"You must be the smartest person in the world!" Ray winked.

Stevie stood for a moment, thinking about his comment. When it hit her, she sat down with her arms crossed. Ray chuckled, grabbing an assortment of fruits.

"I'm smart." She mumbled.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night, ma chère." Ray hummed.

"I'll prove it."

"What's one plus one?" Ray asked, talking as if he was speaking to a child.

Stevie glared at him,"It's two."

"Oh my god, you're so smart, Stevie!" Ray laughed.

"I'm gonna-"

"Do nothing because I have an... Announcement." Monoyagi popped up before realizing it was just them,"Seriously?!"

"Who?" Ray asked.

"Where is everyone else a-" Monokuma looked around.

"Not here." Ray finished.

"Of everyone, it had to be my least favorite student." Monoyagi muttered.

"Suck it, asshole." Ray rolled his eyes,"Give us the news while we're here."

"The third floor is now open for business." She stated.

"Ok, I'll make sure to kill up there." Ray joked.

"Please do." Monoyagi nodded.

"Anything for you, boss." Ray chuckled.

"Nobody's killing anyone." Stevie pointed.

"You said that a couple days ago and you're four classmates down, Ma." Monoyagi reminded her.

"Leave her alone, MonoGoat. She's innocent and only I can mess with her." Ray told him.

"So, it's true that boys pick on the girls they like?" Ray asked.

"Naw, I'm just a bitch to everyone." He laughed.

"He is." Stevie nodded.

"I just had a thought." Ray spoke,"When I diss Monoyagi, isn't that animal abuse? Damn, the Ultimate Mantis Conservationist wouldn't be happy about this."

"I don't think she'd mind." Stevie shook her head.

"Ah, alright." He nodded.

"Go gather up your friends and explore once you're dates over." Monokuma then disappeared.

"I- Damn. She's more of a bitch than me." Ray sighed.

"You've got that right." Stevie nodded as Daiko dragged in Akira.

"Normally it's vice versa. The hell happened to her?" Ray asked.

"She won't tell me." Daiko sighed.

"Akira, you good? You need a therapist who also needs therapy?" Ray offered.

"It was an accident." She mumbled.

"What was?" He asked again, then remembering the trial,"Your secret... Did you burn your own family?"

Akira looked away from them all.

"Ah... It's okay, Akira. Y'know, what I've done is probably a lot worse than what you've done. Don't feel bad, because it was an accident. They've probably forgiven you, wherever they are." Ray assured her.

Akira looked down, grabbing Stevie's hand.

"He's right, everything's alright now." Stevie nodded, gently rubbing her back.

"We made breakfast, if that'll cheer you up." Ray shrugged.

Akira rubbed her eyes and nodded as Daiko brought over a plate for each of them and Ray let out a sigh of relief.

"There. All better, for now." Daiko sighed as well.

"Alright. I'll go get Jay and Teri, you get the lovebirds, please." Ray said to Stevie, hopping away.

"On it." Stevie nodded and left as well.

Stevie hummed and walked up to Kirari's room, knocking on the door although she received no answer. Stevie sighed and went to knock again but the door opened, it was unlocked.

"Kira? Ash? You in here?" Stevie poked her head in, not seeing any people.

"Yeah? Is breakfast ready or something?" Kirari asked, she must've been in the bathroom.

"Mhm." She nodded.

"We'll be there in like, five minutes." Kirari told her.

"Alrighty." Stevie then left the room.

When Stevie made her way to the dining hall, Ray was there along with Jay, Terishi, Daiko and Akira. Stevie looked around, noticing Jeff sat in the corner as well.

"Now... Where are the lovebirds?" Ray wondered.

"They'll be here soon." Stevie hummed.

"Good, good, we'll tell them when they arrive." Ray nodded.

"Missed me, mates?" Scott looked around as he walked in.

Sancia entered the dining hall a few paces after Scott, managing a half-hearted grin towards the other students although... Ray looked her up and down quietly and Terishi was practically glaring at her.

Scott sat down at the table after grabbing a couple waffles. Sancia sat down as well and looked up at Stevie and Ray as she put a waffle on her plate.

"These look really good." She smiled, trying to hide the quiver in her voice.

"Thanks!" Stevie took a sip of her water.

She wasn't angry at Sancia, she never was. She never blamed Sancia for what happened that night.

Sancia smiled again, taking a miniscule bite of her food before stopping, looking around at everyone else.

"You can eat, y'know." Scott mouthed to her.

She ended up mouthing back, with a ridiculously red face,"Thanks."

"Makin' moves, Scott?" Daiko winked, half joking.

"Naw, we're just friends." He pointed.

Sancia tsked, not sure if she was supposed to be amused or humiliated. She instead settled with nodding,"Yeah."

"I mean, if you don't-" Daiko began.

"Keep talkin' and yer face'll no look the same agane." Scott turned to him.

Sancia chuckled,"You guys are being idiotic."

"You're no fun, Scotty." Daiko rolled his eyes.

"Alright, mo ghaol." Scott mumbled.

"What-"

"Well then, now that everyone is here aside from Kirari and Ash, we can tell you what Monoyagi told us." Ray interupted,"Basically, the third floor is open. Yay..."

"Great, exploration time." Jeff spoke up.

"You make it sound like we found something completely new rather than a random blocked off staircase." Ray rolled his eyes.

"Well, we haven't been there before, have we?" Jeff shrugged.

"Fair enough. Anyway, you gonna eat?" Ray asked.

"I had toast." They shrugged again.

"Alright. Stevie, are you sure they're coming? I think they are too infatuated with each other to notice the time fly by." Ray turned to her.

"They told me they would be." She sighed.

"It's fine, we can just explore without them and when they ask what's happening we tell 'em." Ray concluded.

"What are we waiting for?" Scott stood up.

"The rest of them to finish eating." Ray sighed.

"Hurry up." Scott pointed,"I arrived last and I'm finished."

"You're what we call a fast eater." Ray stated.

"Kinda have tae be when you live wae ma family."

"Ah..." He nodded.

"Scott, are you o-" Stevie began.

"Of course!" He then walked off.

Sancia stood quickly and watched him leave.

"Thanks for breakfast." She tried to smile before following after Scott.

"Don't get lost." Daiko called after them.

"We'll try not to." Sancia grinned slightly.

Soon enough, everyone finished eating and they headed to the second floor, looking up at the staircase.

"Race you to the top of the stairs?" Stevie turned to them.

"Depends." Ray sighed.

"C'mon, it'll be fun." She hummed.

"Alright, fine. As long as I don't loose my ankles." Ray said over-dramatically.

"I promise you won't." Stevie began to run.

"I doubt it, but ok." Ray sighed, lightly jogging up the stairs.

"Why would you ever doubt me?" She asked.

"My friend said that to me right before my third apartment blew up..." Ray replied.

"My name isn't Akira." Stevie pointed.

"It wasn't Akira. It was Volcam. He's okay, I shot him. But that aside, I have several trust issues, Volcan being one of the many reasons I have them." Ray shrugged.

"Well, I'm a very trustworthy person." Stevie landed at the top of the stairs.

"True, but I'm not. I don't trust myself, is the real problem." Ray admitted, arriving at the top.

"I trust you." Stevie told him.

Ray stayed quiet, looking like he wanted to say something. Although, all Stevie could think was,'Shit, did I go and make this awkward?'

"Anyways, that aside, let's go explore!" Ray spoke, breaking the awkward silence.

"Y-yeah, let's go this way." Stevie pointed.

"Alright." Ray grinned.

They soon came across a large room that Jeff was examining. There was a big machine sort of thing in the centre.

"Where and what is this?" Ray asked.

"Physics lab." Jeff told him.

"Yo, we can blow shit up now!" Ray grinned.

"It appears that all the more dangerous stuff has been removed." Jeff shrugged.

"Dang, now I can't make a love potion!" Ray sighed dramatically.

"Not sure if that's physics, but alright." Jeff chuckled.

"Well, technically if you could put magic in any other category it would be physics." He pointed out.

"Nevermind magic, what the heck is this?" Stevie gestured to the machine.

"A time machine!" Monoyagi popped up.

"Wait, wha-"

"Yeppers!" She grinned.

"Alrighty then... Can we time loop to see the previous murders live action? I wanna hear out classmates last words." Ray asked.

"Nope, sadly it only takes you back five seconds." Monoyagi shook his head.

"Then what use is it?" Ray grumbled.

Monokuma laughed,"Just kidding, it's not even a time machine. It's my air purifier!"

"I don't like you." Ray stated.

"The feelings mutual, bestie." Monoyagi grinned.

"What gives you the need to be unpleasant all the time?" Ray asked.

"I just love seeing the despair on all of your little faces." Monokuma hummed,"Mainly yours."

"It isn't despair, tis annoyance. Get it right, Teddy McNoonegivesafuck." Ray sighed.

"You're loosing your touch, Ray Ray?" Monoyagi disappeared.

"Ray Ray...? J'espère que est enfoiré meurt dans in trou." Ray cursed in French.

"Ray, calm down." Stevie shook her head, not even really understanding what he said.

"Stevie, Jeff, can I trust you two?" Ray asked suddenly.

"Of course you can." Stevie told him.

Jeff nodded, continuing to look over the supposed air purifier.

"Well, I have a theory that might end up being the cause of my death. I don't believe in magic, right? So when I saw that goat, I immediately knew it was a robot. Here's the problem, though. Someone must've needed to code it to be personalised for all of us. Meaning someone who knows us well enough must've coded the robot. Do you see what I'm getting at?" Ray looked between them both.

Jeff nodded, raising a brow,"You're posing a theory that there is a traitor among us, yes?"

"Well, either that or someone was watching us before the school, and still is. The first one makes more sense, though." Ray nodded.

"And more likely." Stevie agreed.

"Yup, that's another reason why I wanted to go back in time. We could follow the people who were killed to see if they were the Mastermind. But that should be impossible... Right? No one dead can control the magic goat." Ray looked around.

"Unless they're a ghost." Stevie shrugged.

"Eh, I doubt it. Anyways, assuming one of you guys aren't maniacal geniuses like myself, where shall we go next?" Ray asked them.

"There's not many rooms up here but there is one along the corridor." Jeff pointed.

"Alrighty, then. That's where I'm going!" Ray announced.

"I'll come too!" Stevie told him.

The pair of them proceeded to walk out of the physics lab, leaving Jeff alone and heading to the room at the end of the hall.

"So... This is the art room?" Stevie asked, looking up at the paintbrush sign before they entered.

"I would suppose so. It seems like a very organized room despite it being covered with splattered paint." Ray hummed.

"The artwork looks like it's been drawn by children." Stevie pointed out, picking something off the ground.

"Maybe it has a more in-depth meaning but they got children to draw it so we couldn't figure out what it is." Ray evaluated a picture.

"Ray, do you ever remember posing for a picture like this?" Stevie asked, holding out what she picked up.

A photograph. One of Ray, Scott and Crystal together.

"Not at all. That said, even if I did I wouldn't remember. You can see how much I don't give a shit about them." Ray's eyes widened in confusion.

"Give it here!" Monoyagi snatched the photo from her.

Ray's reflexes kicked in, him immediately snatching it back and reaching for his knife before realising it was only Monoyagi.

"Explain."

"It's my picture!" Monoyagi disappeared.

"What the hell?" Ray asked, extremely confused.
