Chapter 14 - Misty Memories

Stevie blinked her eyes open, where... Oh, her room. The floor. She remembered... But she didn't want to. What time was it?

As Stevie got up to check, something made a noise beneath her feet. She looked down and picked up why it was... Paper? No, a photo.

The photo was of... Her. Her when she was younger and... Ray? A younger Ray. Stevie could admit that he'd alway looked familiar but in the picture they were... Holding hands?!

Ray... How could she have forgotten? It felt like memories that had been strangely suppressed began flooding back to her. She'd met Ray when she first ran away, he helped her...

Stevie stuck the photo in her pocket and sighed, slowly walking out of the room. She didn't care about the time anymore, she wanted to do something for Ray.

She made her way to the kitchen and began making coffee for him, the warm steam warming up the room. Stevie wasn't sure if Ray took anything in his coffee so she just left it black.

"I think you'll need this." Monoyagi popped up beside her with a metal tray.

"Oh- Thank you." Stevie smiled at her, taking the tray.

She sat the warm cup on the tray along with a spoon for Ray to stir it. Stevie poured some milk into a little cup and got a small pot of sugar and set them on the tray as well.

With that, Stevie began walking the halls to search for Ray until she came across the library. Ray would like it here.

Stevie turned and used her back to open the door, still holding the tray. As she turned back around, she saw Ray sat at the desk, reading a book.

"Ray?" Stevie spoke slowly.

Ray remained silent. Stevie bit her cheek and walked over to Ray, setting the tray on the desk. Ray glanced at her but still said nothing.

"Ray, I'm sorry. Please stop being mad at me..'

Stevie didn't know what she was saying but she knew she'd done something wrong, she must've. That's why people didn't like her.

Ray was still quiet.

"Don't you remember me..?" Stevie asked quietly.

Nothing. No answer. Stevie rubbed her eyes and turned, going to leave when... Ray grabbed her hand.

"You shouldn't be apologizing. I'm in the wrong, I yelled at you." Ray sighed,"You need help, I can give you that.'

"Y-you can?" Stevie asked.

Ray stood up and wrapped an arm around Stevie's waist, taking the cup of coffee in the other,"Come, let's go."

Stevie was lead to the gym by Ray, who quickly left and returned with an even more confused Daiko.

"Right, you're both pathetic." Ray began.

"Rude.' Daiko pouted.

"You didn't left me finish." Ray pointed,"So... I'm going to train you both."

"Train us..?" Stevie blinked.

"Anybody could come and kill you both, so I'm gonna make sure you can fight back." Ray crossed his arms.

"What about-"

"Akira can defend herself. She isn't physically strong but she's sneaky, she has her tactics." Ray shrugged.

Before Stevie knew it, Ray had given her and Daiko a pair of fingerless gloves. The pair changed into the gym uniforms that they found in some lockers and returned, ready for training.

"On the floor, now." Ray clapped.

"Excuse me-"

"Get on the ground, boy!"

Stevie held back a laugh as Ray wrestled Daiko to the ground and watched him try and fail at press-ups.

"Why are you laughing? You're next!" Ray pointed.

Stevie wasn't much better than Daiko but Ray made the pair of them train for an hour or two. It was... An experience, to say the least.
