Welcome home, baby

"Okay, so!"

"'So' what?" Klaus asked as he looked at her from the driver's seat.

"So, tell me everything I need to know before we get to New Orleans," Caroline clarified.

"Alright. I'm engaged in a territorial war against my own ex adopted son who, by the way, invited Mikael to drive me out of town before."

Caroline oofed at the mini history lesson. "As terrible as that sounds, I was asking about who's baby is currently killing me right now."

Klaus smirked. "Oh, you'll really hate this, then."

Caroline laughed dryly. "Why? Who is it? It's not Hayley, is it?"

Klaus didn't respond. He didn't even look at her.

"It's not her, is it?" Caroline pleaded.

"It's Hayley's," Klaus whispered, earning him a smack.

"Niklaus Mi- whatever your name is,"

Klaus raised an interested brow. No one in the history of ever had thought of not calling him the son of the man who wanted him dead.

"How dare you?! Sleep with the person who stole my boyfriend!"

"Well, you and I weren't exactly friends, then," Klaus reminded her.

"You and I have never been friends! You've been trying to seduce me from the moment you saw me... and then you go to that... actual bitch!"

Klaus laughed. "Well, that actual bitch was a welcome respite from all the teenage drama."

Caroline scoffed and paid attention out her window. "You are possibly the worst non-boyfriend ever."

"Your only, non- boyfriend, darling."

Caroline turned and found him smirking at her. She couldn't help giggling. Klaus reached out and reassuringly held her hand while Caroline stared at him. She leaned her head in to rest on his shoulder, earning a cough from the backseat.

"What!? I wasn't going to kiss him," she sat back up rights and hit his shoulder again. "He doesn't deserve a kiss for what he's done."

Bonnie rolled her eyes. "Are we there, yet?"

Klaus looked at her from the mirror. "We would've been there early if Ms. Mystic Falls didn't bring all of Mystic Falls with her."

"Hey, you chose her," Bonnie commented.

"Awww look at you two: bonding over insulting me," Caroline said sarcastically.

"This isn't a free favor, by the way," Bonnie reminded Klaus of their deal.

"Yes, yes. You will be financially recompensed."

"And you'll cover my college," she stressed.

"You will no longer have any monetary concerns, Ms. Bennett," Klaus sighed.

Bonnie smiled proudly. "Good! Cause I'm hungry."

"0hh! Yes," Caroline doubled. "I need a pit stop," she made a pleading face and klaus rolled his eyes and turned into the nearest exit.

The pitstop added another hour to their travel what with figuring out how to manage Caroline's various... medical... needs. But eventually they made it to the Mikaelson mansion. Caroline let herself out, amazed at the exterior.

"Oh, my gosh! It's so nice!" She exclaimed while Klaus got their bags.

"You should see the other place," Klaus commented and led them up.

"Oh ho ho, no fucking way!" Hayley said as she stormed down the stairs. Elijah and Klaus stood in the way. "Her? Her? There's no way she's carrying my baby!"

"Not really my choice!" Caroline argued in her defense and flashed her fangs as proof. She searched for the closest object and lugged it at Klaus's back. "Mr. World's oldest dumbass couldn't chose his words wisely."

Hayley scoffed when Klaus didn't immediately turn to rebuke Caroline. "Well, at least I know my baby is safe from him with you." She turned her attention to the other arrival. "Bonnie, right?"

"Yeah," Bonnie shook her hand. "I hear you have a witch problem."

"Among others. Thanks for coming, for what it's worth. Let me show you to a room."

Bonnie picked up her bags and followed Hayley upstairs. Caroline joined her once she was done checking out the first floor.

"Isn't this such a beautiful place?" Caroline asked.

"Mhmm. Sure is," Bonnie agreed and pulled Caroline up by the arm. "This, is my room."

"Ugh, and where am I supposed to sleep?!" Caroline argued.

"I don't know. Try your baby daddy. Good night," Bonnie blew a kiss and closed the door.

Caroline scoffed as she was left standing alone in the hall. But then she suddenly felt no so alone.

"Right," he caressed her stomach. "Let's go find your daddy's room."

After peeking through some rooms, Caroline soon found the one belonging to Klaus. The art easel was a telltale. She let herself in and walked around to assess the room. He was very minimalist; compared to her, at least. He had a few scattered pictures of his family, and many the rest of it was his artwork. Caroline went up and examined one of his pieces. She'd always admired his artwork.

Apparently, it was now time for a late night snack and Caroline tipped over in pain. Reflexively, she said his name as she cried out, and he was there before she could pronounce the s. Klaus vamped in and got in bed with her, laying behind her as he let her drink from his bitten wrist. Klaus comfortingly stroked her till long after she was asleep as he adjusted to his new realty.

"Welcome home, baby."
