Chapter 4 - Trial Time

"Don't worry Kira, I won't let them do anything to you." Tsuki assured her.

"They couldn't touch me if they tried." Akira rolled her eyes.

"Oh! Guess what I made." Tsuki nodded.

"A bow?" Akira raised a brow.

"A bow!" Tsuki held up a tiny bow she made.

It was just out of a pencil, ruler and an elastic band.

"Perfect." Akira nodded, a smile on her face as she entered the room with the big red door.

"T-took you t-two long enough." Toko crossed her arms.

"Oh, be quiet you c-" A hand was placed over Akira's mouth.

"Sorry Toko, I was showing Akira my new creation." Tsuki glared at her, her hand over Akira's mouth.

"Now, now, play nice." Byakuya hummed, walking past all three of them.

"Get your dog on a leash." Tsuki pulled her hand away.

"Please, I don't want that thing. Hiro can have her, for all I care." Byakuya shrugged.

Soon enough, everyone else walked in and the doors closed behind them... There was no going back now. The elevator was pretty packed but nobody made a noise, all you could hear was shallow breaths.

"So is anyone gonna admit they done it?" Tsuki broke the silence.

More silence.

"You really expected an answer?" Akira asked.

"Eh, I tried." Tsuki shrugged.

"It was a good attempt." Taka told her

"Thank you, Taka." Tsuki nodded.

Taka nodded as the elevator came to a halt.

"I don't feel good." Tsuki muttered as they walked out.

"Me either." Hina shook her head.

When they all walked out, they saw what looked to be an actual courtroom.

"Way to go all out." Akira looked around.

"Doesn't it look so realistic?' Monokuma laughed.

"Yeah, I've definitely been in a courtroom before, so accurate." Akira rolled her eyes.

"Everyone find your assigned seats and sit down. Hurry up now!" He hurried them.

It took a few minutes, but everyone found their assigned podium.

"Let's begin with a basic explanation of the rules, your vote determines the results. If you can figure out who done it then only they will receive punishment. However if you pick the wrong one, then I'll punish everyone besides the blackened!' Monkuma explained.

"And one of us is definitely the killer, right?" Sakura asked.

"Of course!"

"Okay, then... Everyone, close your eyes and whoever did it, raise your hand!" Taka ordered.

"Why the hell would they raise their hand?" Mondo rolled his eyes.

"Can I ask a question real quick?" Tsuki pointed to the pictures of Junko and Sayaka which had crosses over them,"What's going on with those pictures?"

"Well, I'd feel awful if they were left out just because they died." Monokuma answered,"Friendship penetrates even death's barrier."

"Penetrates?" Hifumi smirked.

"May I ask another question?" Celeste raised her hand, ignoring Hifumi's comment,"What is with that empty seat? There were only fifteen of us to begin with, so why are there sixteen seats?"

"Oh, no reason. Our courtroom can hold up to sixteen people." Monokuma shrugged,"Anyway! Get started! First up is the summary, now let the class trial begin!"

"I assert that the one who was murdered was Miss Sayaka Maizono!" Taka pointed.

"Yeah, we know that.." Tsuki nodded.

"And the murder occurred in Akira's room." Byakuya rested on his podium.

"In the bathroom." Hina added.

"They're just saying shit we know." Tsuki mouthed to Akira.

"It's a summary." Akira mouthed back.

"So it seems most likely that the killer must've taken her by surprise while she was in the bathroom." Chihiro sighed, looking down,"She didn't even have a chance to resist."

"Wait, Chihiro. Thats wrong." Tsuki shook her head.

"Try to remember what my room looked like, I think it's pretty safe to say there was a struggle." Akira reminded her.

"Between who and who?" Chihiro wondered.

"Sayaka and the killer." Tsuki nodded.

"S-so you're saying... Sayaka wasn't caught by surprise in the bathroom?" Chihiro asked.

"She must have been attacked in the main room first, then ran to the bathroom to hide. The killer must've followed her in and finished the job." Celeste sighed.

"That much should've been obvious after taking one look at the scene. It shouldn't even need explaining." Byakuya scoffed.

"I'm s-sorry.' Chihiro held her hands.

"... Okay, so what's next?" Hiro looked around.

"Next is the subject of the murder weapon." Sakura crossed her arms.

"Wow, this is starting to sound like a real trial!" Hifumi gasped.

"So what was used to kill her?" Sakura asked.

"There was some kind of sharp object thrust into her stomach. Without a doubt, that is the murder weapon!" Taka announced.

"So the killer used a random knife they had on them." Mondo nodded slowly.

"No." Akira spoke up,"I do think it was a knife - but not just any knife. I'm almost positive it was a kitchen knife."

"So the killer used a random knife they had on them." Mondo nodded slowly.

"No." Akira spoke up,"I do think it was a knife - but not just any knife. I'm almost positive it was a kitchen knife."

"A kitchen knife?" Mondo raised a brow.

"After the murder, we discovered that one of the knives from the kitchen was missing." Akira nodded.

"Which means that knife must be the murder weapon." Sakura pointed.

"Oh, I guess you could see the weapon stickin' out of her chest and if you look real closely, I could definitely see that as a kitchen knife." Mondo agreed.

"So the murder weapon was a kitchen knife, where does that get us?" Leon sighed.

"T-that's right... Akira's room was the scene of the crime. W-what more p-proof do you need?" Toko stammered.

"Oh, you better shut your face or I swear-"

"Let's draw our conclusions after we've presented the arguments." Kyoko butted in, "Otherwise, what's the point in a trial?"

"Well, we can talk all we want, it's not gonna change that conclusion." Leon rolled his eyes.

"That's not true. If we keep at it, something new will show up." Tsuki crossed her arms.

"You really believe that...?" Hiro asked.

"Hell yeah we do." Akira nodded.

"So I guess there's no doubt that the kitchen knife was the murder weapon. But where does that get us?" Leon leaned forward.

"A-akira must've taken it from the k-kitchen, right?" Toko asked,"She must've done it in secret, when n-nobody was in the dining hall."

"Hang on, Akira didn't take the knife from the kitchen." Tsuki pointed.

"N-next you're going to say she's n-not the killer. G-go ahead, say it a-all you like." Toko shook her head.

"What if we have a witness? Hina?" Tsuki turned to Hina.

"Huh?" Hina raised a brow.

"Remember what you told Akira and I earlier? The knife disappeared while you were in the dining hall, right?" Tsuki asked her.

"Y-yeah, that's right." Hina nodded.

"And at any point while you were there, did you ever see me come into the dining hall?" Akira asked.

"No... I don't think so." Hina shook her head.

"You don't think so?" Byakuya raised a brow.

"No, Akira definitely wasn't there." Hina pointed.

"The knife disappeared while Hina was in the dining hall, but I wasn't there the entire time." Akira smirked,"In other words, there's no way I could've taken the knife!"

"T-Then what about this? What if the i-idiot swimming girl, A-Akira and Tsuki are in on this t-together? And p-protecting each other." Toko stuttered.

"Idiot swimmer girl?" Hina's eyes widened before shaking her head,"Oh, an more importantly, why would I get involved in something like that?"

"Speaking of. I'd like to ask the bear... If there is an accomplice, do they also become blackened?" Byukuya turned to him.

"You ask and so I answer! Each murder is allowed an accomplice, but only the one who does the killing is allowed to graduate." Monokuma informed them.

"So in other words... Two people can work together but only one of them has no chance of profiting from it." Kyoko nodded.

"Then there's no way anyone would work together, right?" Mondo looked around.

"What if they did work together and they just didn't know the rule?" Chihiro asked slowly.

"Ugh, good grief! Enough already! No, okay!? There are no accomplices in this case!" Monokuma sighed, quickly adding,"Oops... Did I say that out loud?"

"Anyway, I didn't go to the dining hall and I didn't take the knife so I'm not the killer." Akira crossed her arms.

"So who did take the knife?" Chihiro looked around.

"Hina seems the obvious candidate." Celeste stated,"She did just say she was in the dining hall."

"N-no way! I swear it wasn't me!" Hina pointed.

"Sure, but can you or anyone else prove that?" Hifumi raised a brow.

"I can.' Sakura agreed.

"That's right! Sakura was with me the entire time I was drinking my tea." Hina nodded.

"Uh..I have to ask to be sure..Sakura is-" Leon began.

"Me." She spoke calmly.

"Right." Leon nodded slowly.

"But then... Couldn't either of them grabbed the knife?" Hiro asked.

"Actually no... Because well..." Hina slowly spoke.

"Just spit it out already." Mondo rolled his eyes.

"I stayed in Hina's room last night." Sakura shrugged.

"I got so scared thanks to those creepy videos. I wasn't really thinking, I just asked her to stay over." Hina admitted,"Which means we both have airtight alibis!"

"You stayed over? D-doesnt that violate the school r-regulations?" Toko stuttered out.

"We're not allowed to sleep anywhere but the dorms, but it doesn't say we have to stay in our assigned dorms." Chihiro answered,"So I don't think that's a problem."

"It is a problem! A boy and a girl spending the night together? It's... It's unwholesome!" Taka raised his voice.

"But... I'm a girl." Sakura told him.

"Wh- You are?... Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Taka went to bow.

"Dude... No, she understands." Tsuki nodded slowly.

"But if it wasn't either of you, what other possibility is there?" Celeste raised a brow.

"Actually there is another possibility, right Hina?" Sakura nodded.

"Oh, yeah, that's true! One other person did come to the dining hall while we were there." Hina told everyone.

"Why didn't you say so in the first place?" Byukuya sighed.

"Well because... They're not here anymore..." Hina sighed,"Sayaka. She was the one who came to the dining hall. And then later... She wound up dead."

"So the person who took the knife was Sayaka?" Tsuki looked at them.

"That's the only possibility." Sakura nodded,"Thinking back on it, she was acting kind of unusual. When she came into the dining hall, she didn't even look at us. She just walked straight into the kitchen. As she left, she said she just wanted a glass of water but most likely..."

"Then the person who took the knife was the victim herself!" Taka pointed.

"I'm sure... I'm sure she just took it for self-defence." Akira shook her head.

"So you're saying the knife she took, got taken from her and was killed with it? In that case, you might not have taken the knife but still could've killed her." Byukuya nodded.

"What!?" Akira stepped back.

"S-see?! She did do it after all!" Toko pointed.

"No, you're wrong!" Akira shook her head.

"So that's how you would twist the argument and send us all off in the wrong direction. Hmm... You possess a most terrifying talent." Hifumi gasped.

"Hold on, it's still too early to decide conclusively that Akira's the killer, wouldn't you say?" Kyoko raised a brow,"Because, you see, if the room did belong to the killer, then they did something most bewildering."

"Bewildering? What the hell are you talking about?!" Mondo groaned.

"Something was missing from the scene of the crime that by all rights, should've been there." Kyoko then turned to the girls,"You know what I'm talking about, don't you?"

Tsuki thought for a bit before she gasped and bounced, "Hair! There was no hair on the floor!"

"So... The culprit removed some evidence?" Chihiro raised a brow.

"Yes. However, if I was the culprit, why would I need to get rid of all the hair in my room?" Akira asked,"It wouldn't be unusual at all to find my hair at the crime scene if the crime scene is my room."

"The reason all the hair was gone was to remove any trace that Sayaka had ever been there. That makes sense, does it not?" Celeste hummed.

"No. If that were the case, they would've had to do something about the body, not just her hair." Kyoko shook her head.

"Aha! Very true, very true!" Hifumi nodded.

"Okay, then why wasn't there any hair on the ground?" Leon raised a brow.

"The killer must've gotten rid of it all, to remove any trace that they had been there." Kyoko nodded.

"So... Akira isn't the killer?" Chihiro asked.

"But are you sure we can decide something so important based solely on the absence of some hair?" Taka gasped.

"No, there are other reasons that prove Akira couldn't have done it." Kyoko informed him.

"I'd like to hear these reasons." Sakura stated.

"Do you remember anything remarkable about the bathroom at the scene? Sayaka was attacked in the main room first then fled to the bathroom, right?" Kyoko crossed her arms.

"Yeah, they ran after her, got into the bathroom and stabbed her..." Mondo sighed.

"How did the killer get into the bathroom? Did they have trouble with it?" Kyoko questioned.

"What do you mean..?" Celeste raised a brow.

"There was clear evidence left behind. Do you remember?" Kyoko turned to the girls again.

"Evidence that the killer had trouble getting into the bathroom..." Akira thought for a moment,"You're talking about the doorknob, right?"

"Huh? The doorknob? What doorknob?" Hiro asked.

"The doorknob to my bathroom, it was completely broken." Akira pulled out a picture,"See how the top part is unscrewed and the doorknob's about ready to fall off?"

"Oh yeah, true... But what does it mean?" Chihiro questioned.

"In trying to bypass the lock, the ended up nearly removing the entire doorknob. This is another most bewildering act for the room's owner. It proves Akira is beyond suspicion." Kyoko answered.

"So what, you're saying she wouldn't break the door in her own room? But it's the only choice you have is to break it! There's nothing Bewildering about it!" Leon pointed.

"You still don't see? Okay, then. Let's take another look at how the incident unfolded. Hopefully that will help you understand." Kyoko sighed before she began,"The incident took place in Akira's room, Sayaka was attacked first in the main room, she then fled to the bathroom-"

"Then the killer ran after her, and they got into the bathroom." Mondo continued.

"At that point, the killer had to have bust down the door because Sayaka had locked it." Leon nodded.

"No, Leon. That's wrong!" Akira pointed,"The reason my bathroom didn't open wasn't because it was locked."

"Why didn't it open then?" Chihiro crossed her arms.

"Because it was stuck." Akira answered.

"What are you talking about?" Leon shifted.

"My bathroom door doesn't quite fit in the frame right. Monokuma over there can testify to that." Akira hummed.

"Yup! As true as true can be!" Monokuma agreed.

"So the reason the door didn't open was just because it was stuck. But the killer didn't know that and assumed it was locked. So they tore apart the doorknob to get it." Kyoko explained.

"I'm just gonna insert myself in this situation because things might get muddled up." Monokuma spoke up again.

"What do you want?" Byakuya questioned.

"Akira does not have a lock in her bathroom, I accidently gave her a boy's room instead of a girl's." Monokuma pointed.

"Isn't that nice?" Akira crossed her arms.

"Did the killer know that?" Celeste raised a brow.

"Well, not even I knew that, so probably not." Akira shook her head.

"There's also something else that's strange." Tsuki spoke slowly.

"The nameplates being switched?" Akira tilted her head,"Hm, the culprit probably didn't even know they were in my room."

"So the killer would have to have been someone who didn't know they changed rooms?" Chihiro asked.

"Then Akira c-couldnt have done it!" Toko pointed.

"That's what I've been trying to tell you." Akira muttered.

"Okay... So who did do it?" Mondo blinked.

"I'm sorry, but I give up! Quit without saving!" Hifumi announced.

"What happens if we can't decide on who did it?" Tsuki asked them.

"Well then, why don't we just vite right now?" Taka suggested,"Majority rules!"

"Majority rules? Do you think that's a good idea?" Leon blinked.

"Yeah, our necks are on the line here! Someone seriously needs to do something... For serious!" Hiro pointed.

"Does no one have any other thoughts or questions? It does not matter how trivial they may seem." Celeste clasped her hands together.

"Oh! As a matter of fact, I have one question." Hina raised her hand.

"Oh... You.." Celeste stopped slowly.

"You don't gotta sound so disappointed!" Hina pointed.

"It's fine! Just ask your question." Taka pointed back at her.

"Oh, yeah! Okay, so, uh... Well, I was just wondering, How'd the culprit get into Akira's room in the first place?"

"Yes... How did the killer get inside?" Sakura crossed her arms.

"Maybe Sayaka just dropped the key somewhere and the culprit picked it up." Leon suggested,"That's possible, right?"

"I don't think so. That seems too convenient." Taka rubbed his chin.

"Then... Maybe someone picked the lock?" Chihiro raised a brow.

"Negative! If you remember correctly Monokuma made it quite clear the locks could not be picked." Taka spoke out.

"Fine then, well what about this? The killer got in the easy way. They could've knocked and said they wanted to talk or something and Miss Maizono just... Let 'em in!" Hifumi suggested.

"No, that can't be it either." Akira shook her head.

"Oho! Trying to argue against me? Sounds like someone doesn't know her place!" Hifumi gasped, "Hello?! Why can't it be it?"

"Because Sayaka was already scared, remember? That's why she asked me to switch rooms in the first place." Akira reminded them,"Knowing what she'd been through, I just can't believe she would've opened the door for anyone."

"What if her being scared was a lie?" Kyoko wondered.

"Huh?" Akira stepped back in surprise,"W-what the hell is that supposed to mean? Why would she lie about something like that!?"

"I know you don't want to consider it but look at this and tell me... Can you still deny the possibility?" Kyoko showed a notebook which had been scribbed on, showing words.

"There's something I want to talk to you about, just us two. In five minutes, come see me in my room. Check the nameplates to make sure you don't get the wrong room, okay?" Akira read out.

"I found a notepad during my search and I shaded in the top sheet with a pencil... And these are the words that were revealed." Kyoko explained.

"Oh man, I've totally seen people do that in detective shows!" Hina spoke up,"When you write, it can leave an imprint. Sketch over the next sheet of paper and you can read the words When I saw that I was like 'Holy crap! I better make sure I rip the paper out before I use it from now on'!"

"It's a pretty old fashioned technique, but even the classics can be surprisingly useful." Kyoko nodded,"I should also mention, I found the notepad on the desk in Akira's room."

"Huh?" Akira blinked.

"Which means, only someone who had been in Akira's room before the incident could have written it." Kyoko added.

"I can't spell. And my handwriting isn't neat like that so it was not me." Tsuki pointed.

"Then either it was Akira, who lived there, or Sayaka, who switched rooms for a single night." Byakuya deduced.

"So, Akira. Did you write this?" Kyoko crossed her arms.

"N-no, I didn't but-" She began.

"Of course you didn't. Because the note also bears a perfectly legible signature- Sayaka's signature.' Kyoko pointed at it.

"B-but why? Why would she write that?" Akira asked.

"The note was most likely her way of getting in touch with a certain someone. She must have slid it under their door to let them know she wanted to meet with them in secret." Tsuki worked it out.

"If you got a note like that from the Ultimate Pop Sensation, what young man could resist?" Hifumi questioned before quickly adding,"Of course, I'm only into 2D so it wouldn't have any effect on me!"

"But can we be sure anyone even got the note? And honestly, even if they did, I do not think they are at all involved in what happened." Celeste wondered.

"Huh? What makes you say that?" Chihiro asked.

"Would you like to hear what I have to say? Very well then, pay attention!' Celeste pointed before she spoke, "Sayaka and Akira switched rooms, correct? But in the note the place they were asked to come to, specifically says my room."

"I see... So if someone read that note... Then they would've gone to Sayaka's room!" Chihiro nodded.

"Exactly, the room Akira was staying in. So in other words if someone did read the note and did what they said.. they would not have any connection to what happens." Celeste nodded.

"Sorry Celeste, but you're wrong." Akira pointed,"The nameplates on my and Sayaka's rooms were switched."

"They were... Switched?" She blinked.

"That's right. The nameplates got switched, just like the rooms themselves. As a result, the nameplate on Sayaka's room actually had Akira's name and the nameplate on Akira's room had Sayaka's." Kyoko elaborated.

"So what you're saying is the room Sayaka was staying in, was actually marked as her room?" Byakuya asked.

"Then... If someone did do what the note said, they would end up at Akira's room, where Sayaka was.." Chihiro realized.

"Plus, their rooms were right next to each other so switching the name plates would be pretty easy. And the one who switched the name plates were... Well, it wasn't you Akira?" Kyoko turned to her.

"R-right.." Akira nodded slowly.

"Okay... So who did it?" Leon rolled his eyes.

"Me and Sayaka were the only ones who knew about the room switch." Akira told them, knowing it probably wasn't Taka who also knew,"So the only other person besides me who would even know to switch the nameplates... Was Sayaka."

"You can also infer much from the note. She specifically tells the reader to check the nameplate. She would only have written that if she knew about the nameplates being switched." Kyoko pointed to the note.

"But... Why would she switch them in the first place?" Chihiro asked.

"She wanted someone to come to the room she was in and also hide the fact that it was Akira's room." Kyoko answered.

"What?" Akira raised a brow

"Inviting someone to your room but not telling them that you'd switched rooms... Why would anyone do that?" Hina sighed.

"To understand that... We first need to understand what happened after she invite the person into the room. That's where the answer lies." Kyoko told her.

"What happened then was probably...  Whoever she invited over, came in and attacked her! We figured it out! We know who did it! Whoever she invited over is the culprit!" Taka jumped.

"But we still don't know who it is, ya goddamn idiot.." Mondo sighed.

"Sayaka fought the killer there in the room, yes? Perhaps the answer to our previous question lies in the initial struggle." Celeste shrugged.

"Then...We just have to figure out what happened during the fight, right?" Hina raised a brow.

"That reminds me... There was a replica sword at the murder scene. Was that perhaps used during the fight?" Sakura raise a brow.

"Oh yeah, what's the deal with that sword?" Mondo asked.

"I suggested that Sayaka hang into it for self-defense." Akira explained,"It seems pretty likely that the killer used it to break Sayaka's right wrist."

"How the heck could you possibly know that's what broke her wrist?!" Leon rolled his eyes.

"All you have to do is take a good look at her broken wrist and it should be pretty clear." Akira told him,"Right where her wrist is swollen, there was something glittery, see?"

"Is that gold?' Chihiro tilted her head.

"It is. More specially, the gold coating from the replica sword. You barely need to touch that stuff and it sticks right to you." Akira explained.

"I got it! Because she got hit with the sword right there on the wrist!' Taka nodded.

"I see, I see." Hifumi nodded,"And so the truth draws even closer."

"Alright then! Its time to solve a mystery!" Hiro pointed,"When the fighting broke out, the culprit grabbed the sword  and that's when the first blow was dealt! A sword-based sneak attack!"

"And that's what broke Miss Maizono's wrist." Hifumi added.

"S-so she tried to fight back and grabbed the k-kitchen knife she had h-hidden away.." Toko began.

"But then the killer took that from her too." Chihiro shook her head.

"And they killed her with it." Sakura looked down.

"Wait, Hiro. I don't think you're right." Tsuki finally spoke up, "I don't think the fighting started out with the sword.'

"Huh? Why not?" He asked.

"Because the swords sheath had been scratched. There's a gash in it, like someone cut into it with something sharp." Tsuki pointed.

"Something sharp... You mean like the kitchen knife?" Chihiro asked,"That was the only sharp thing found at the scene."

"Stop jumping ahead! Slow down and explain it so I get what the hells going on!" Mondo sighed.

"If the sword was used first, there wouldn't be any explanation for the scratch on the sheath." Akira nodded along,"If you were going to attack with the sword, you'd take it out of the sheath first, right?"

"That's true. With the sheath on, it'd be heavy and bulky and useless and shit." Mondo agreed.

"Okay, so how did the sheath get damaged?" Hifumi questioned.

"If they got attacked with the kitchen knife, maybe they grabbed the sword as a defensive impulse. In that situation, there wouldn't be any time to actually unsheath the sword." Kyoko suggested.

"So you're saying the sword was initially used to defend against an attack from the knife?" Sakura raised a brow.

"Which means... Whoever had the kitchen knife was the one who attacked first!" Hifumi announced.

"I think I get it!" Taka spoke up, stepping forward,"So here's how it all played out... The culprit came in, found the kitchen knife hidden in there somewhere. Then they attacked Sayaka before she knew what was happening! So she grabbed the sword to defend herself, but then the culprit took that from her, too. Then, after they broke her wrist with the sword... They took the knife and... Finished it..."

"Sorry, but I don't think Sayaka used the sword to defend herself.' Kyoko shrugged.

"Wh- How the hell can you not think that!?" Leon asked.

"Because she never held the sword at all. There's a certain part of the body that makes this clear." She answered.

"You're talking about her palms, right?" Akira tilted her head,"The palms of her hands were perfectly clean, so I don't think she ever picked up the sword."

"How can you tell that just by looking at her palms?" Hina raised a brow.

"Like I said before, the gold coating on that sword comes right off. All you have to do is touch it." Akira explained,"In fact, most of the gold has already came off the handle. I think it's safe to assume that's because whoever used the sword, got some on their hands."

"M-Maybe she washed h-her hands when she escaped to the b-bathroom." Toko suggested.

"Sorry, but I don't think so ' Akira shook her head.

"Why d-do you say that? Is it b-because you think I'm u-ugly?" Toko gasped.

"According to the Monokuma File, Sayaka died around 1:30am. In other words, nighttime. And the water in the bathrooms shuts off at nighttime, right?" Tsuki asked.

"Oh... I didn't know that. Actually... I haven't had a shower here yet..." Toko told them.

"Oh my.." Hifumi muttered.

"Y-you're no different! You s-smell like a big, f-fat, ugly donkey!" Toko stammered.

"Hm? I'm not sure whether to take that as an insult or a compliment!" He laughed.

"An insult, obviously.." Leon sighed.

"So anyway, if Sayaka never touched the sword then that means... The killer is the one who used the sword. But hold on- If thats right then the one who damaged the sheath with the kitchen knife was.." Taka trailed off.

"Sayaka? She had the kitchen knife?" Akira raised a brow.

"But... We already said the attack started with..' Chihiro began.

"The person with the knife attacked first, and the sword was used as an impromptu defense." Byakuya finished.

"Then the one who attacked first was.."Hifumi slowly worked it out.

"S-Sayaka!?" Akira blinked.

"Now do you understand? She wasn't a blameless victim in this." Kyoko sighed.

"No, far from it. It's almost as if... She had been planning to commit a murder of her own." Byakuya smirked,"She took the knife from the kitchen, then invited the culprit to the room she was staying in. And if it's true that she had the kitchen knife and attacked without provocation.."

"Indeed... These are all actions of an assailant." Sakura nodded.

"Which brings up another point. Akira, Sayaka was the one to suggest switch rooms, correct?" Celeste asked,"Maybe the reason she wanted to switch rooms was to pij the crime on you. That is a possibility, is it not?"

"Sayaka wanted to- O-on me?!" Akira's eyes widened.

"That would also explain why she would switch the nameplates. She wanted to get whoever she had targeted to come to Akira's room, where she was staying. And by committing the murder there, instead of her own room, that would implicate Akira. But for that to work, the target had to be lured out while still keeping the room swap a secret. If the target knew she had switched rooms, they would have become suspicious right away." Celeste explained.

"So all that's why she switched rooms?" Mondo asked as he looked around.

"But doesn't that plan seem a little risky?" Hifumi wondered, "For one thing, even if her plan worked, Miss Satoshi would just tell everyone they'd switched rooms."

"I don't know... Despite her outward attitude, I'm not sure Akira is capable of that kind cutthroat behaviour." Byakuya shrugged,"I'm sure Sayaka realized the same thing, which is why, out of all of us, she asked her to switch rooms."

"P-plus she was the Ultimate Pop Sensation. A t-totally forgettable killer, o-or a national superstar... Who are you m-more likely to believe?" Toko shrugged.

"Forgettable... Killer?" Akira thought to herself.

"Wait, then... You're saying she had this all planned out?" Hifumi asked slowly.

"Holy shit!" Mondo gasped.

"But in the end, her plan backfired. She launched her attack with the knife, then found herself under attack in turn." Celeste shrugged,"That must be when her wrist got broken, and she was forced to drop the knife."

"The tables were suddenly turned on her, and she died at the hands of the one she'd planned to murder." Sakura worked out.

"J-just hold on! That can't be true!" Akira shook her head,"Because! Because..."
