Chapter 10

Angel only called him when she wanted to fuck.

Or if she was hungry and wanted him to cook for her.

And then they'd fuck.

They fucked so much he always left her with a raw dick. He was not complaining though. He liked Angel. He really, really liked her and it was scaring him because he had not been honest with her.

He had not told her everything about himself.

One Friday night she called him because she was hungry. He didn't feel like cooking so he picked up some hood Chinese food. Couldn't get the kind of Chinese he liked in bougie west county. They camped out on the floor in her living room with the fireplace going and lots of wine.

"So how was your day at work?" he asked her.

"Why are you asking me about work?" She moved closer to him and kissed his neck. "I want you naked and inside of me soon."

"How about instead of sex tonight we talk and get to know each other more."

"I know you enough." She slid her hand down his pants.  "Ooo, and I see Mr. Big Stuff is nice and hard and ready for me."

"Come on Angel, I'm serious. We've been seeing each other for a couple of weeks now and I still don't know you that well. How is your divorce coming along? Is he still fighting you?"

She let out a sigh and moved away.

"I do not want to talk about him. You're too damn fine and I'm too damn horny."

"So I'm just your play toy, huh? That's all you want from me? I told you I was not that kind of guy. I'm trying to get to know you so we can have a real relationship."

"A real relationship? Oh baby," she said, pinching his cheeks.  "Tell me you're not getting all mushy on me."

"No!" He moved her hands away.  "I told you, Angel, I'm not that guy you think I am. If this is all you want from me, let me know."

Angel did not say anything, just looked away.

"Okay, I see," he said and got up from the floor.

He should have seen this coming but at least he did not put his heart out there before she crushed it.  They both had fun and he could move on.

"Hook, come on, what are you doing? I like you, I like what we have. I just got out of a relationship, what more do you want from me?"

"The truth. You don't think a man like me is good enough for you...and maybe you're right.  I sure as hell don't feel comfortable mingling around here in your neck of the woods. And you have yet to introduce me to any of your friends. I mean, I should take that for what it is. We are good in the sheets, but not in the streets."

"I never said that Hook, that is your insecurity."

"You didn't have to say it." He headed for the door just as he heard someone trying to enter it. He looked puzzled as the door opened and a brother dressed in a dark suit strolled in like he owned the place. He stopped when he noticed him.

"Who the hell are you?" the man asked.

Before he could say anything, Angel rushed over to them.

"Matt, what are you doing here? You don't live here anymore, remember that?"

"The hell I do! This is my God damned house. Who is this up in my home?"

"I'm leaving." Hook realized this must be Angel's soon-to-be ex-husband. Not a white man like he thought he would be. He was a decent-looking guy, a few inches shorter than him, brown-skinned, and sporting a neat goatee.

"No Hook, wait, don't leave. Especially because of him," Angel said, taking his hand.

"Naw, I ain't trying to be in the middle of you and this dude."

"Her husband, you mean," Matthew clarified. "Angel, you fucking this thug nigga up in my house? Is that why you keep bugging me about this divorce? You little bitch—"

"Hey man, watch your mouth when you talk to her."

"That's my wife, I'll talk to her how I choose in my house!"

"Naw." Hook stepped closer to him. "You're being disrespectful to her and I'm not going to stand here and let you do it.  A real man doesn't call his woman a bitch."

"I'm not his woman," Angel said. "Matthew you need to leave, please."

"Fuck you, bitch!"

Hook stepped even closer to him.

"Dude, didn't I tell you not to disrespect her.  Now I'm trying to be nice to you, but say something else to her and I'm going to have to show you how a real man deal with a man disrespecting his woman."

Matthew looked him up and down with a snarl on his face. Hook could tell the dude had a couple of years on him and was not in great shape like him. He could easily take him out but he was not going to bust the dude up in his house.

"What you are going to do, my brother, is leave my house and leave my wife alone."

"Mathew please, just go, don't embarrass yourself. We're done, it's over. And why do you care who I'm seeing? You saw so many women while we were married why do you even care!  Just leave," Angel screamed at him. "Leave and I better not see your black ass again till we are in court."

Matthew turned to leave and mumbled "Bitch," just loud enough so he could hear.

He punched him clean in his mouth. It was a reflex thing and he regretted it as soon as he did it. He had a temper on him that always got him into trouble.

"You're a dead man," Matthew said holding his bloody lip.

"That's what you get!" Angel said and pushed him toward the door. "Get out for he kicks your ass some more."

She pushed him out the door and locked it.  She took a breath before she turned to him.

"Hook, I'm so sorry about that. I didn't know he would show up here, I haven't seen him in months and he definitely should not have just shown up here like he still lives here."

"It's okay." He flexed his sore hand.

"Oh baby, I'm sorry about that. Let me look at your hand." She rushed over and took his hand.  "I can't believe you did that for me. I don't think Matt ever fought in his life."

"I kinda could tell that," Hook said, with a chuckle.

"Come on, let me put something on your hand before it swells. You need your hands for work."

He followed her in the kitchen and she pulled out frozen peas and put it on his knuckle. He did not forget just a few minutes ago he was planning on leaving her and not seeing her again. He did not know why, but he wanted to stay now, only if she wanted him to.

"And Hook, I do like you a lot...and not just the sex...although I must say, it's the best I have ever had. But that's not all I like about you. You're a good guy. The way you stood up for me with Matt. You could have just left and things would have got crazy with us for sure."

He rubbed her face with his good hand.

"I wouldn't let him lay a finger on you again."

"See, that there, Hook, why are you so sweet? And why are you still single? Why aren't you tied down with a woman and a side chick? Why would you want to be with someone like me?"

"I think you're special."

"But...there are still more women out there with less drama than me."

"I've had my share of women with drama, you're nothing compared to them."

"Well, I want you to stay. And I want us to get to know each other and see where things go for real. You said to Matt I was your woman. Am I?"

"Is that what you want?"

She smiled and nodded.

"Then I'm your man," he said and leaned over and kissed her. "But there is something I should tell you. Something I should have told you that first night we were together."

A/N: Will this relationship work? Seems they are having issues so early on. The way he defended Angel with her husband was a great stand. Now, what is this bomb he's about to drop?
